I decided not to renew my LinkedIn Premium account.

Why?
Because I’m paying for a premium service… and on its best days, it delivers a 1-star experience.

And let’s call it what it is:
Not much different from what you get on Facebook or Instagram, just more expensive.

I’ve been on this platform for 15 years. I’m not an “influencer,” but I’ve consistently shown up, created value, and contributed in a meaningful way.

I’ve spent the last decade building my business here and it hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been solid.

Then things shifted.

I’ve invested hours producing real content authentic, educational, and backed by actual experiments (it’s part of my job). Meanwhile, people around me collect badges, Top Voice labels, and viral hits.

My first viral?
“LinkedIn is Not Tinder.”
Nearly 100k engagement.
So I know what performing on this platform looks like.

But this year?
Different story.

My account gets red-flagged.
Thrown into “jail.”
Reach tanks overnight.
Educational posts barely clear 10 views.

And I’m wasting time trying to reverse-engineer a system that can’t decide what it wants to promote.

So here’s my move:
I’m cancelling Premium.

Sometimes leadership is making a clean decision and moving forward not waiting for a system to start working again.

Especially now that I have to change my profile for male. 

I am going to have fun...

There’s a superpower that kicks in somewhere after fifty. It isn’t mystical and it isn’t cute. It’s simply this. We can see everything before you do. The real leaders. The idea generators. The catalysts. The chaos agents. The posers who talk a big game but would fold the minute things get hard.

Call it pattern recognition. Call it survival instinct. Call it living through enough corporate plot twists to qualify for combat pay. By this age we walk into a room and immediately understand the landscape. Not because we’re magical. Because we’ve seen this movie enough times to know the ending.

Here is what only a woman over fifty can really do at work.

We can spot the real thing in under sixty seconds.
Charisma can fool a room but it doesn’t fool us. We know the difference between someone who leads and someone who performs leadership. One builds trust. One builds noise.

We can pivot with a speed that surprises people.
Agility isn’t a framework. It’s a muscle built from dismantling and rebuilding ourselves more times than we can count. We hold tight to a few core truths. Everything else is negotiable. If it stops serving the work or the humans, it goes.

We can ignore tantrums like experienced professionals.
Some people walk into work with the emotional maturity of a toddler who missed nap time. Go ahead and fire off a dramatic Slack message. I will read it while eating breakfast and get on with my day. Silence is my gift to your development.

We can circle back at exactly the right moment.
We don’t forget. If you crossed a line, we hold the receipt until the timing matters. If you inspired us, we tuck that away too and find ways to build with you. We remember the right things and use them well.

We can see manipulation from a mile away.
A look, a tone, a perfectly timed comment. Younger folks think no one will catch it. We always catch it. Years of watching people wiggle out of accountability taught us what that dance looks like.

We can hold two truths at the same time.
We can be kind and have boundaries. We can be supportive and still expect performance. We can care without coddling. This balance is not confusing to us. It is our default setting.

We know exactly what is urgent and what is noise.
Life has given us the ultimate filter. We assess what matters in seconds. This is why we stay calm when others spin. We are not detached. We are selective.

We can reinvent ourselves without falling apart.
At this stage reinvention is not a crisis. It’s a rhythm. You change because that is how you stay alive in work and in life.

And maybe that’s the real superpower. We don’t need to be loud to change the temperature of a room. We walk in clear. Clear about what matters. Clear about what we give. Clear about what we will not waste time on ever again. Women over fifty are not intimidating. We are unmistakably awake.

No more excuses. Ofcom just raised the bar for w0men online safety.

Today, Ofcom is calling on tech giants to finally step up and protect millions of w0men and girls across the UK. 

Today’s guidance is a bold signal: it’s time to tackle abuse, pile-ons, online stalking and intimate image violations head-on.

Their five-point blueprint isn’t just words, it’s a challenge for every platform to build a safer, kinder digital world. 

Here Ofcom's five-point plan challenges websites and apps: 

✔️ Take responsibility and set clear governance for online safety.

✔️ Assess risks faced by women and girls.

✔️ Provide tools and support for safer experiences.

✔️ Train staff and strengthen policies.

✔️ Monitor, review and improve protections over time

It’s possible, but action is needed.

Are we witnessing the moment the internet truly becomes safer for all? 

Let’s hold tech accountable and cheer for change.
