Building Enablement Systems for Scalable Revenue Growth 📈 | Strategy, Systems Thinking, and Behavioural Design | Founder, Enablement Edge Network 🌐

A month ago, I went through some of the hardest days of my life.

At the end of a normal working day, I was hit by sudden vertigo.

Within hours, it spiralled into something severe.

For three days, I couldn’t get out of bed. Barely able to eat and use the bathroom because any movement triggered violent vomiting.

The week after wasn’t much better. 

Luckily, one of my best friends was with me and helped me through it.

Try to imagine this: you stare at the room, and everything spins – fast, relentlessly, for hours. 

That’s when I understood what it really means to be powerless and incapacitated.

As someone who likes control, this was the ultimate emotional test.

Those days "broke" me.
Physically.
Psychologically.
In a way nothing else ever had.

And I’ll be honest – in the first days, fear crept in intensely. 

The kind of fear where you start wondering:

What if this doesn’t pass?
What if things don’t go back to normal?
What if this is it?

Being stuck in bed with nothing to do gives you time.
Too much time, maybe.

And that’s why I’m writing this.

Because when health is suddenly at stake, clarity arrives fast.

I wasn’t thinking about achievements, accolades, LI followers, or career. 

None of that mattered.

What mattered were different questions:

Was I moving in a direction that truly fulfilled me?
Was I experiencing the process – or just moving from one thing to the next?
Was I nurturing the relationships that actually matter?
Was I present enough with my parents and friends?
Was I acting with integrity and authenticity? 

I realised – again, but much deeper – that life is just a sequence of moments.

And rushing through them has no inherent purpose.

What are we rushing for, exactly?
Time is moving anyway.
Relentlessly.
Towards the only certainty we all share. 

This doesn’t mean giving up ambition; it means finding a better pace and rhythm – one that allows us to feel more grounded, nurtured, and aligned. 

Also, when you realise how quickly things can change, you also realise there isn’t always going to be a “later”.

Some changes can’t be postponed indefinitely.
Some conversations can’t wait.
Some truths become heavier the longer we avoid them.

One other thing.

After the worst had passed, the first food I ate was a rice cake, a carrot, and some celery.

For the first time, I truly tasted the rice in the cake. 
I noticed how fresh the carrot was.
How the celery hydrated every corner of my mouth.

I was just... there.

---

I’ve now almost fully recovered.

In the end, it seems this was caused by a virus that inflamed one of the nerves responsible for balance. 

This experience was brutal, but also illuminating.

While I was in bed, unable to do anything, all I wanted was to feel normal again.

I yearned to walk, eat, and sit upright without the room spinning.

The smallest things suddenly felt like everything.

Sometimes it takes losing the ordinary to understand its weight.

Don’t forget to cherish it, friends.

Too many enablement programs accidentally optimise for the wrong thing.

They optimise for behaviour.

More training.
More activities.
More content.
More process.
More “enablement”.

And on paper, it all looks productive.

But in reality?

Reps get overburdened.
Managers get stretched.
Cognitive load goes up.
And the system becomes harder to run.

Which means the program may increase activity…

…but reduce performance.

A concept I keep coming back to is something from performance engineering, from Thomas F. Gilbert.

He called it “worthy performance”.

And he expressed it with a simple relationship:

Worthy performance = Value of accomplishments ÷ Cost of behaviour

That equation should be taped to every enablement team’s wall since it forces a question we often avoid:

"Is the performance we’re designing actually worth producing?"

Here’s what it means in enablement terms.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS are not “win rate”.

They’re the things the field can actually produce:

• crisp discovery notes that describe real problems
• qualification summaries that help teams disqualify early
• stakeholder maps that actually reflect the buying group
• mutual action plans that create momentum
• business cases that buyers can run internally

Those are controllable outputs sitting inside execution.

When they improve consistently, business outcomes tend to follow.

Then there’s the other side of the equation:

COST OF BEHAVIOUR

This is not just “did reps do the right behaviours”.

It’s the full human cost of producing those outputs:

• time and effort
• cognitive load
• tool friction and process steps
• context switching
• training overhead
• manager burden

This is the part most programs ignore and that causes most initiatives to fail.

Not because the content isn’t good.

Not because reps don’t care.

But because the programme asks for a level of effort that is not sustainable inside real work.

So behaviour goes up temporarily…

…but worth goes down.

This is why I think “more training” is often a lazy default.

Training is expensive.

Not only financially, but behaviourally.

It takes time away from selling, adds mental load, and usually needs constant reinforcement to stick.

Sometimes it’s needed, of course.

But many gaps don’t require capability building.

They require system improvement.

One of the biggest unlocks I’ve seen in modern enablement is this:

Stop asking, “How do we change rep behaviour?”

And start asking:

“How do we reduce the amount of behaviour required to produce great outputs?”

That’s where AI, automation, better tooling, and smarter workflows can help.

They can make quality execution less costly to produce.

To me, world-class enablement is not more behaviour.

It’s better performance economics.

Higher-value execution.

At a lower human cost.

If your program requires heroic effort to sustain, it isn’t well designed.

Even if it looks impressive in a slide deck.

Many capable candidates fail interviews because of small, repeatable mistakes they are unaware of that quietly weaken the way they come across.

Over the past few months, I spoke with and surveyed 25 enablement leaders and practitioners who have collectively sat on hundreds of interview panels (I’ll tag them in the comments).

Die mich jahrelang gebremst haben. Auch Jessica habe ich neu kennengelernt. 

Wir haben in diesem Jahr geheiratet und ich durfte ihre innere Schönheit noch tiefer erfahren.

Ich habe viel über eine Berufung in der Welt reflektiert,

Dabei wurde mir klar: Outbound Coaching (mein damaliges Business) ist zwar nice, 

Aber nicht meine Bestimmung. Ich möchte Menschen helfen, sich selbst tiefer zu erkennen

Und eine innere Ruhe zu finden, die unabhängig von Ergebnissen ist. 

Die Welt hat genug Fortschritt, aber zu viel Burnout und Depression. Das muss nicht sein.

Resilienz und Peak Performance sind die Antwort.

Und erst dann meine Ergebnisse explodieren lassen. 

Es gab mir den Mut, meinen eigenen Weg zu gehen.

Es fühlt sich so gut an, endlich etwas zu machen, das Menschen wirklich verändert – 

Nicht nur ihr Bankkonto, sondern ihre Lebensqualität.

Ich bin noch am Anfang und habe viele Unklarheiten,

Aber im Herzen fühle ich, dass ich auf dem richtigen Weg bin.

Mittagessen ist keine Pause
Kaffee holen ist keine Pause
Auf die Toilette gehen... auch keine Pause 😁 

Für die meisten Vertriebler fühlt sich eine echte Pause fast verboten an. 

Wir denken, wir machen Pausen, aber in der Realität schalten wir nie ab.

Gegen 14 Uhr fühlen sich die meisten AEs, mit denen ich spreche, völlig ausgelaugt. 

Der Fokus schwindet, die Stimme im Call wird flacher, die Energie ist im Keller.

Was mich noch mehr erschreckt ist, dass alle das als normal sehen 😄 

Nichts ist daran normal, um 14-15 Uhr einen Tief zu haben !!

Und wie wir Pausen machen, entscheidet, wie wir uns während dem Tag fühlen.

Diese 2-Minuten-Unterbrechungen reichen nicht aus, um dein Nervensystem zu regulieren.

Die besten Vertriebler, die ich kenne, arbeiten nicht härter – sie arbeiten systematisch.

Sie machen alle 60 bis 90 Minuten eine echte Pause. 

Sie gehen eine Runde spazieren oder nutzen gezielte Atemübungen. 

Sie laden ihre Batterie regelmäßig auf, bevor sie leer ist.

Sie steuern ihre Energie, statt sich vom Tag steuern zu lassen.

Fast jeder Vertriebler hat ein System, wie er verkauft. 

Einen Prozess für die Discovery, die Demo und das Closing. 

Aber kaum jemand hat ein System, wie er seine Energie wieder auflädt.

Und dann wundern wir uns, warum wir abends so müde sind, 

dass die Zeit mit der Familie oder Freunden darunter leidet. 

Wir geben im Job alles und die Menschen, die uns wichtig sind,

bekommen nur das, was übrig an Energie bleibt.

Übernimm die Verantwortung für dein Energielevel. 

Wer seine Pausen plant wie seine Follow-ups, performt nicht nur besser,

Er lebt auch besser.

Hast du ein festes System, um deine Batterie während des Tages aufzuladen? Oder hoffst du einfach, dass der Kaffee dich bis 18 Uhr rettet?

Ich trainiere nur 2-mal die Woche, trinken keinen Eiweiß, nehme kein Creatine

Und esse täglich um die 2.000 Kalorien.

und will weder Gewichte steigern noch wie Arnold aussehen.

Das Gym ist für die meisten ein Ort, um zu perfomen.

Ein Ort, an dem man sich bis ans Maximum pusht. 

Früher war ich genau so.

Damals war ich extrem durchtrainiert, aber ich habe zwei Dinge gelernt:

Meine Identität hing viel zu sehr von meinem Körper ab.

Und das Gym war ein ständiger Kampf gegen mich selbst, den ich „gewinnen“ musste.

Diese Phase ist vorbei. Heute ist das Gym für mich ein Ort zum Abschalten. 

Ich höre einen Podcast, bewege mich und habe Spaß. 

Ich gebe trotzdem 100%, und bringe meine Muskeln zum Versagen

Aber mein Fokus hat sich verschoben: 

Von der Physis, hin zur Psyche.

Performance ist eine Entscheidung – kein Muss.

Im Sales ist es exakt dasselbe. 

Du musst nicht jeden Tag 150% geben. 

Du musst nicht in Peak Performance kommen. 

Du musst nicht alles aus dir selbst rausholen.

Du musst dich nicht coachen lassen oder weiterentwickeln.

Aber du musst dann eben auch mit den entsprechenden Resultaten fein sein.

Viele Vertriebler machen es wie ich im Gym: 

Der Job ist einfach ein Job. 80% reichen aus, um durchzukommen.

Ist das schlimm? Nein.

Es geht mir darum, dass jeder Vertriebler weiß, wo er steht.

Es geht um klare Intentionen und eine gesunde Erwartungshaltung.

Willst du in Peak Performance? 

Dann musst du die Dinge anders angehen als die Masse.

Willst du „normal“ sein? 

Dann erwarte keine Spitzen-Resultate, aber sei auch wirklich okay damit.

Das Problem entsteht erst, wenn wir Durchschnitts-Aufwand betreiben, 

Aber High-Performance-Ergebnisse erwarten. Das zerreißt uns innerlich.

Ich habe mich im Gym bewusst gegen Peak Performance entschieden, 

Aber im Business und im Sales sieht es anders aus.

Wo stehst du gerade? Bist du jemand, der radikal an sich arbeiten möchte, oder bist du zufrieden damit, wie es gerade läuft?

Während mein Dad (Arzt, Prototyp Araber) damals ernsthaft dachte, ich wäre verloren, 

gab es eine Person, die nie gezweifelt hat: Meine Mutter.

„Lass ihn machen. Er wird seinen Weg finden.“ Hat sie gesagt.

Als ich mich entschied, in den Vertrieb zu gehen, 

War die Enttäuschung meines Dads groß. 

In seiner Welt gab es nur drei Wege: Arzt, Ingenieur oder Anwalt. 

Alles andere war für Leute, die nicht wussten, was sie wollen.

Und ehrlich gesagt? Er hatte recht. 😅 

Ich ging in den Sales, weil ich absolut nicht wusste, was ich wollte.

Aber während er nur Risiko und inkonsistenz gesehen hat, 

Sah meine Mom etwas anderes. Sie hat an mich geglaubt, 

Als ich es selbst noch nicht richtig konnte.

Der Vertrieb wurde für mich zur härtesten, aber besten Schule meines Lebens.

Sales hat mich oft genug auf den Boden gebracht, damit ich lerne, 

wie ich wieder aufstehe, stärker als davor. 

Kein anderer Beruf fordert dich menschlich so radikal heraus. 

Er ist ein klarer Spiegel deiner Persönlichkeit.

Durch die unzähligen Gespräche, die täglichen Challenges 

Und die ständige Konfrontation mit mir selbst habe ich etwas gefunden, 

das kein Studium mir hätte geben können: Meine Passion.

Ich habe verstanden, dass es im Kern nicht um den Abschluss geht.

Es geht für mich darum, Menschen dabei zu helfen, ihr wahres Potenzial zu entdecken. 

Sie dabei zu unterstützen, sich selbst zu verwirklichen und die beste Version ihrer selbst zu werden.

Heute weiß ich: Ohne den Mut, „verloren“ zu gehen, hätte ich mich nie gefunden. 

Und ohne den Rückhalt meiner Mom hätte ich diesen Mut vielleicht nicht aufgebracht.

Manchmal müssen wir den Erwartungen anderer widersprechen, 

Um unserer eigenen Wahrheit zu begegnen. 

Wahre Entwicklung beginnt dort, wo wir aufhören, 

die Pläne anderer zu erfüllen, und anfangen, an uns selbst zu arbeiten.

Wer hat an dich geglaubt, als du selbst noch gezweifelt hast? Und was ist heute dein eigentlicher Antrieb?

Ein Scale-up hat 70 % des Sales-Teams gefeuert, aber meinen Coachee (AE) behalten.

Teamleads und sogar der VP mussten gehen. Das ganze Team wurde umstrukturiert.

Warum Alex bleiben durfte und sogar befördert wurde?

Hier ist die Story:

• Vom SDR zum AE befördert (in Rekordzeit) 
• Aktuell der Nummer 1 Senior AE im SMB-Team
• 2 Layoff-Wellen überlebt, während fast alle anderen gehen mussten

Das Management hat in ihm einen „Fels in der Brandung“ gesehen. 

Jemand, der stabil bleibt, wenn es im Unternehmen brennt.

Wie haben wir das geschafft?

Zuerst haben wir aufgehört, an Skripten zu arbeiten. Wenn Vertriebler im Call nur minimal nervös oder gestresst sind, merkt das der Kunde sofort.
--> Wir haben stattdessen daran gearbeitet, wie er sein Nervensystem reguliert.

Dann haben wir Performance-Routinen eingebaut. Keine langen Meditationen, sondern kleine Übungen für zwischendurch (wie bei Profi-Athleten), damit die Energie bis 18 Uhr hoch bleibt.

Als Letztes haben wir seine „blinden Flecken“ gesucht. Wir haben die unbewussten Muster gelöscht, die ihn früher gestresst und Energie gekostet haben.

Und weißt du was?

Das alles ist keine Raketenwissenschaft.

Keine geheimen Tricks oder Sales-Hacks. Es geht einfach darum, die Basics zu meistern und auf seinen Körper und seine Energie zu achten.

Wer ruhig und klar bleibt, wenn alle anderen Panik bekommen, wird für jede Firma unersetzbar.

So gewinnt man im Sales langfristig.
