As I build this creator business, I’m treating monetization like an experiment.

I’ve already seen signs that it's possible:
- Sponsored video offers
- Inbound leads
- People asking how they can support my work

But instead of jumping at everything, here's how I'm approaching monetization:

1️⃣  𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁.
I'm finally seeing all those lines I used to write about applied in real life.

(Yes — it's the one about how algorithms change, 
so you should own your audience.)

2️⃣ 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀.
I want to understand people’s problems
before packaging solutions.

3️⃣ 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆.
If it doesn’t genuinely help my audience,

4️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗜 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄.
It's cool to have a robust tech stack, 
but what good is it if you're not 
👏 consistently 👏  making 👏 content 👏?


I told myself that the challenge is seeing if
I can grow my audience and build systems with free tools.
A lot of people have done it!

When it makes sense—
as my needs grow or as I make more consistent income
—will I invest in higher tiers or hire.

Right now, I'm only using: 
- My iPhone 14 to shoot
- CapCut and TikTok's built-in editor to edit
- Kit for my email list
- Buffer for scheduling social media

As I go on this creator journey, I realized something:

𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻.

When I first sent out my welcome email
to the people who signed up for my email newsletter,
I received tons of replies.

➢ DMs about their lives
➢ Messages about worries they don’t usually say out loud.

The personal nature of these messages surprised me,
but it also reminded me of something my high school bestie told me.

I had complimented her on her writing,
but she smiled and said she liked my writing more:

"Farrah, you're so relatable."

At the time, I remember thinking:
"Pfft, who wants to be relatable —
When you can construct beautiful prose?"

Now, years later, I’m realizing it's a gift.
How people tell me they feel understood.
- I put words to what they couldn’t say yet
- I made them feel a little less alone

Some subscribers even asked if I was on other platforms,
so they can follow me there. 🥹

These incidents reminded me that sharing your message
is about meeting people where they already are.

And maybe this season isn't about
- growing the fastest
- being the loudest
- having the most followers

But showing up so someone feels seen.

If that’s the kind of creator I get to be,
I’m more than okay with that.

I’ve always wanted to be a creator.

Not in the “viral” sense,
but building something that actually belongs to you.

When the new year rolled in,
For once, I didn’t overthink it.

I didn’t wait for the perfect system.
I just… started.

In the past few days, I've:
✅ Set up a Kit account 
(and fumbled through the tech)

✅ Posted on Threads
(one post unexpectedly crossed 1,000+ likes and brought in 200+ followers)

✅ Started an email list that now has 130+ people
(with 70+ still unconfirmed because, again, tech hiccups)

𝗔 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗮𝗴𝗼, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁.

What’s wild is that when I revisited my 2026 goals, 
My target for January was to reach 100–300 subscribers.

It’s only the first week.

For the longest time, I thought I was slow.

I knew how content, email, social, and repurposing worked — 
I’d studied all of it, taken the courses, written about it endlessly.

But I was always waiting for the best time to start.

Now I realized that all that learning 
was just waiting for action to catch up.

And as soon as I started, everything clicked.

(I’m also seeing the thing I’ve been telling others for years in real time: 
𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 — 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗶𝘁. 😂 )

For now, I’m building slowly:
➡️ TikTok is established
➡️ Threads and my email list are just beginning
🔜 Long-form video and better editing are next

Once the list starts earning, I plan on investing in:
🔜 Paid tools
🔜 Replicable content standards
🔜 Eventually bringing help in

I used to think I had to have everything to start,
But now I'm realizing all I really had to do was begin.

The biggest mistake I made last year ⤵️ 
...was quitting too early.

Last year, I tried to grow a LinkedIn ghostwriting business.

✅ I had the skills.
✅ I understood the market.
✅ I knew there was demand.

But when progress felt slow, I got discouraged and stepped away.
Now, when I look around, I see how real the demand actually is.

LinkedIn ghostwriters are being hired everywhere:
- Upwork
- OnlineJobs, and 
- Directly by companies

If I had stayed just a little longer, things probably would’ve worked out.

I still don’t know if I was early, 
or if I just didn’t give it enough time.

What I do know is that I’m choosing a different approach now.
I’m playing the long game.

I’m letting things take time.
And I’m building something I genuinely enjoy.

I didn’t stick with LinkedIn ghostwriting because
maybe deep down, I didn’t love the process.

But with what I’m building now, I do.
And that part matters a lot more than I realized.

If you’re posting online for fun or memories, ignore this.

Hot take: 
People skip your posts because they’re about you, and not them.

If you’re trying to build an audience,
You have to GIVE before you ask for attention.

Whether that'd be education or entertainment, inspiration or insight,
you gotta give your audience a reason to stick around.

Posting “what I did today” without a story or takeaway is noise.
(To strangers, at least)

While some creators grow because of aesthetics or videography, that’s rare.

So if you want to start growing as a creator,
start making it worth your audience's time.
