John C. Maxwell said it best:
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

And this truth came alive for me again this week.

I had the privilege of facilitating a workshop with a group of Senior Leaders in Hong Kong, leaders responsible for shaping culture, driving performance, and influencing many. 

But what shifted the room wasn’t authority or expertise.

It was servant leadership,  the willingness to serve first, lead second.

What moved people wasn’t another model or framework.
It was presence.
It was empathy.
It was choosing to show up with care, not ego.

What made it even more meaningful was co-facilitating with Patsy - from ex-colleague, to ex-customer, to now a working partner.

A full-circle moment that reminds me that leadership is ultimately about relationships built through trust, humility, and consistency.

Servant leadership isn’t soft.
It’s powerful.

Because when leaders care, people commit.

When leaders serve, teams rise.
When leaders are fully present, transformation happens.

In a world that often rewards speed and direction.

WHEN CARS COME OUT OF A VENDING MACHINE


For the longest time, I’ve walked past that towering glass display of cars on Prinsep Street and casually assumed it was just a flashy showroom—one of those “look but don’t touch” kind of places. You know, purely for aesthetic appreciation and mild daydreaming.

But imagine my surprise yesterday when I discovered that it isn’t just a display at all… it’s actually a giant car vending machine! Yes—insert money, press a button, and out comes a luxury car. Like buying snacks, but with a much, much bigger calorie count on your bank account.

And really, in a country already famous for being the most expensive place to own a car… we now have cars being dispensed like candy. Now that’s what I call next-level opulence with a straight face!

THE OFFICE JESTER EFFECT


Have you ever seen a company rush to hire someone because the workload has gone into full meltdown mode? Everyone’s stretched, coffee is doing overtime, and help is desperately needed.

Now, in any well-run organization, each person plays a role in keeping the whole machine running. One missing cog, and suddenly the gears start grinding, productivity dips, and chaos flirts with the door.

But every now and then… a curious thing happens.

Instead of getting an extra set of hands that actually lightens the load, the new hire turns out to be more of an entertainment upgrade than an operational one. Plenty of presence, plenty of chatter—but when it comes to real contribution? Let’s just say the results are… artistically minimal.

It’s one thing to boost office morale, but when someone adds little to nothing to the work they were hired for, the rest of the team still ends up carrying the weight. And while laughter is healthy in the workplace, it’s a bit tragic when the punchline comes at everyone else’s expense.

Ah well—every workplace has its characters. Some drive the machine forward… and some just provide the soundtrack. 😄

NO ONE SUCCEEDS ALONE


As we step into the final workweek before some of us begin our Christmas and year-end holidays—and start clearing our annual leave—it’s a good moment to pause and reflect.

One important reminder while we’re at work: no man is an island. In any organization, teamwork is not just a nice idea, it’s essential. That’s how things get done—effectively, efficiently, and sustainably. Even when roles are individual, no one truly works in isolation. Each of us depends on others to play their part.

Think of it as a machine made up of many small components. Every piece, no matter how small, matters. When one part fails to connect or cooperate, the entire system struggles.

The sooner we understand and accept this, the better it is for everyone involved.

And if you’re someone who prefers minimal interaction, is more introverted, or enjoys working alone, that’s perfectly fine—but it’s still important to learn how to manage within a team environment. Because in the workplace, going it completely alone isn’t sustainable. Collaboration keeps things moving, and without it, even the most capable individual will eventually struggle.

As the year winds down, it’s a good reminder that progress is rarely a solo effort.

THE QUIET COMFORT OF KNOWING WHO TRULY MATTERS


Last night, as I sat at home with a drink in hand and a vinyl record gently spinning in the background, I found myself quietly reflecting on how much life has changed. The music filled the room, and in that stillness, memories of my younger years surfaced.

Back in my university days and during the early part of my career, my social circle was large. I had many friends—or at least I thought I did. At that age, I never truly questioned the depth of those relationships. Wisdom was scarce, maturity still in progress, and I didn’t yet know the difference between true friendships and simple acquaintances.

With time, that clarity arrived. While my character remains largely the same, I’ve grown wiser in understanding who genuinely matters. Today, I may know many people, but only a handful I truly call close friends. And beyond that small circle, nothing matters more than time spent with family.

These days, I’m perfectly content with simplicity. If there’s no one to meet, I’m just as happy staying home, listening to my vinyl collection and flipping through my comics. I’ve come to deeply value quality—whether that’s meaningful moments with good friends and loved ones, or the quiet peace of being alone and simply unwinding.

It’s a different kind of fulfillment now—quieter, fewer faces, but far richer in meaning.

A LITTLE JOY, WITHIN BUDGET 


Don’t be afraid to spend a little on the things that truly make you happy—within reason, of course. I’m not saying go on a wild shopping spree or blow your savings, but set a sensible budget for yourself and enjoy what you love guilt-free. After all, life is meant to be lived, not just managed on spreadsheets.

And really, what others think of your interests doesn’t matter. What you enjoy is your business, not theirs. The moment you start living by other people’s opinions is the moment happiness starts slipping away. There will always be someone with something unnecessary to say—best to let that noise fade into the background.

So with that healthy mindset in place… I think I’ll be picking up a few new records and comics this weekend. Just doing me, and doing it with a smile.

BOUNDARIES AT WORK, BALANCE IN LIFE


In the workplace, it’s important to keep our relationships professional and focused on the purpose we are there for—to do our jobs to the best of our ability. Give your time, skills, and commitment during work hours, then leave work at work and return home to the life and people that truly matter.

Avoid getting drawn into situations, gossip, or activities that can complicate your professional life and eventually spill over into your personal one. What seems harmless in the moment can sometimes grow into stress, misunderstanding, or conflict that affects your peace of mind beyond the office.

At the end of the day, work is a responsibility, not your entire identity. Your family and true friends are the ones who will stand by you through life’s ups and downs. Colleagues and bosses may be part of your daily routine, but they rarely remain part of your life when circumstances change. Guard your boundaries, protect your private life, and you’ll find greater clarity, balance, and lasting peace.

DON’T DREAM IT’S OVER — HOPE ALWAYS HAS THE LAST WORD


As we begin a new week, I just want to take a moment to wish everyone strength, peace, and a renewed sense of hope. Whatever you’re facing right now, hang in there. Keep going. Keep believing. Life has a way of turning the page when we least expect it, and better days do come—so please, don’t give up. Many of us carry our struggles quietly, thinking we’re alone in them, but the truth is we’re never truly alone. Reach out when the burden feels heavy, lean on one another, and stay strong.

I’d like to leave you with a song that has followed me through the years—“Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. It was released in 1986, when I was still in my early teens. Back then, I was drawn simply to its beautiful melody. But as life unfolded and I grew older, I came to truly understand its deeper meaning—one of hope, perseverance, connection, and the quiet strength it takes to resist despair and division, even when life feels chaotic.

No matter what you’re going through right now, believe this: you will overcome, and you will be victorious. Hold on to hope—it has never failed those who refuse to let go.

WISHING YOU A WEEKEND OF CALM SEAS


Happy Friday, everyone!

Back in 1980, Christopher Cross released a song called “Sailing,” a timeless classic that went on to win three Grammys. I was only a few years old then, so it wasn’t until much later that the song found its way into my life—but when it did, it stayed.

There’s something magical about it. The song captures that feeling of drifting away from the noise of the world… a sense of pure escape, peace, and tranquility. It’s one of those tracks that helped define the smooth, gentle sound of the ’80s—music that lets you breathe a little easier.

So why am I sharing it today? Because as we head into the weekend, I hope all of us get our own version of “sailing.” Whether it’s by doing something you love or simply allowing yourself to rest and do nothing at all, may the next couple of days bring you calm waters and a quiet break from life’s demands.

Here’s to a peaceful, restorative weekend ahead.
