The past few months gave me something I didn’t know I needed, space.

Space to slow down.

Space to reflect on my own leadership.

Space to notice what truly makes a difference when working with leaders and teams.

What became clear to me is this:
growth doesn’t come from doing more.

Clarity shows up when we create space to listen: to ourselves, to our teams, and to what’s really happening.

And impact is strongest when leadership is anchored in self-awareness, not just results.

As this new year begins, I’m stepping forward with renewed energy and intention to lead with awareness, choose courage in moments of uncertainty, and help leaders and teams grow from the inside out.

No big declarations.

Just a deeper commitment to what matters most.

“If leadership is influence… and influencing isn’t my strength, can I still lead?”

I get this question a lot.

Many leaders believe influence means being charismatic, persuasive, or always “on.”

That if it doesn’t come naturally, leadership might not be for them.

Here’s what I’ve seen, again and again:
the most impactful leaders aren’t the loudest in the room.

They’re the most grounded.
Influence doesn’t begin with convincing others.

It begins with knowing yourself.
When leaders are clear about who they are, what they stand for, and how they show up, people feel it. 

Trust grows. 
Safety forms. 
Followership happens.

Authenticity is magnetic.

Not because it tries to impress but because it’s real.

You don’t need to perform influence.

You need to embody it.

So if you’ve ever doubted your ability to lead because influencing isn’t your “core domain,” remember this:
your presence, values, and self-awareness may already be influencing more than you realise.

Seeing What We Usually Miss


This horn in my hand was a key element in an organisational workshop from Barry Oshry.

It represents a pause.

A moment out of time.

A chance to step away from the action and see what’s usually invisible.

In organisations, most challenges don’t come from bad intent.

They come from unseen dynamics: roles, pressures, and system forces quietly shaping behaviour.

When the horn is sounded, we stop reacting.

We look at the undercurrents driving the system.

And suddenly, what felt personal becomes understandable.

Good people.

Good intentions.

Yet patterns repeat until leaders create space to see the system, not just the individuals.

That’s the power of stepping “out of time.”

Not to assign blame  but to build awareness.

Because when leaders can see the invisible forces at play, they stop fixing people… and start leading systems.

Just a quiet mid week reflection. 


Ironically, Focus is my 10th CliftonStrength.

I don’t think about it often.

And it’s funny how easily I get distracted by the very things I need to focus on.

Too many priorities.

Too many open loops.

Too much noise competing for attention.

This reminded me of something simple:

Focus isn’t about forcing productivity.

It’s about noticing where my attention goes and choosing it more intentionally.

So this week, I’m not trying to do more.

I’m choosing attention.

互补 (hù bǔ) - to complement one another; each person completes the other.


This idea sits at the heart of the work I do with teams.

In every CliftonStrengths workshop I facilitate, I see the same shift.

When leaders realise that differences aren’t problems to solve but strengths meant to be 互补, something changes.

Judgment turns into understanding.

Tension gives way to appreciation.

And teams stop working around one another and start working with one another.

Strengths conversations aren’t about labels or perfection.

They’re about creating a shared language.

A way to understand why we think, feel, and act the way we do especially under pressure.

When teams truly embrace 互补, trust deepens.

People feel seen.

And performance follows naturally.

This is the work that energises me helping leaders create clarity, connection, and confidence by recognising how each person completes the whole.

Sometimes, you’ve got to be the thing you never had.


Many of us didn’t grow up with perfect examples of leadership.

No clear blueprint.

No instruction manual.

And maybe that’s the point.
Leadership doesn’t come with a manual.

You become it.

You lead the way you wish you were led.

You listen the way you once needed to be heard.

You create safety, clarity, and trust because you know what it feels like when they’re missing.

That’s not weakness.

That’s earned wisdom.

The leaders who make the deepest impact aren’t the ones who copy a model.

They’re the ones who choose to be intentional…
to learn, reflect, and show up with courage especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Sometimes, becoming a leader means rewriting the manual starting with yourself.


So here’s the real question:

Unboxing What Was Already There


30 leaders.

One room.

And a lot of honest conversations.

Facilitating the UnBOX Your Strengths workshop reminded me why I believe so deeply in strength-based leadership.

Not because it’s trendy.

Not because it’s positive.

But because it gives leaders permission to stop pretending.

I watched leaders recognise themselves, sometimes with relief, sometimes with surprise.

I saw “weaknesses” reframed as overused strengths.

I saw quiet confidence grow when people realised they didn’t need to lead like someone else to be effective.

Strength-based leadership isn’t about fixing people.

It’s about revealing what’s already working and learning how to use it with intention.

When leaders understand their strengths: They lead with more clarity.

They relate with more empathy.
And they create teams where difference becomes 互补 (hù bǔ - to complement one another).

Today was energising not because the room was loud but because it was honest.

And every time I run this workshop, I’m reminded: The best leaders don’t add more layers. 

They unbox what’s already inside.

Why matters more than what.


Don’t have kids just because you want to save a marriage.

Don’t open a restaurant because you’re hungry.

Don’t start a business because you hate your job.

Because emptiness can’t be fixed with chaos.
And fear can’t be healed with distraction.

I’ve seen this pattern play out, in life, in leadership, in organisations.

When big decisions are made from a place of escape, they often become the very thing we later want to escape from.

New roles.
New strategies.
New initiatives.
Same unresolved why.

As leaders, we’re constantly deciding: what to build, what to change, what to start next.

The real work isn’t just choosing what to do.

It’s being honest about why we’re doing it.

Are we acting from clarity or from discomfort?

From purpose or from pressure?

Because when the why is rooted in truth, the path has resilience.

When it’s rooted in running away, the cost shows up later.


Before your next big decision, ask yourself:

Am I doing this for my truth or am I doing this to run?

I just spent an incredibly energizing weekend at the pilot 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀™ 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀. 

We were the 𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱!

It wasn’t just a certification; it was a live laboratory of meaning-making. 

As a newly certified coach, I am still smiling from the depth of curiosity and self-discovery that happens when we stop looking at Likert scales and start looking at the "DNA of the mind."

During the certification, we practiced reading beyond what is said and into what is projected.

• 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀: We explore the potential source of problems by measuring ethics, moral values, and temperament. 
  
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝘁: Instead of guessing, we use "Drawmetrics" to see if your natural style aligns with a new industry like HR or Marketing. 
  
Your Path to Self-Discovery
Professional development is a responsibility, not a luxury. If you aren't seeing progress, it might be time to "sharpen the saw" by identifying your own blind spots before others do.

Pretty judge, popular singing competition possibly broadcasted to millions.. should I do my product placement here?

Product placement in a popular singing contest sounds like a branding dream.

Prime time. Mass audience. Celebrity judges. Emotional moments.

But let’s be brutally honest.
Most of the products on that table? You can’t even see them clearly.

No clear logo recognition. No distinct brand asset. No memorable association.
Just boxes. Bottles. Clutter.

It takes 5 times of brand mentions so the market recognise u as brand recognition and then brand recall, consideration and then they buy! 

This is where many brands confuse exposure with impact.

Marketing is not about being present. Branding is about being remembered.

If your product:
 • Is partially blocked by props
• Competes visually with 5 other brands
• Is never verbally acknowledged
• Has no storyline or context
• Relies on hope instead of design

Then what you bought isn’t branding. 
It’s expensive background decoration.

And here’s the uncomfortable truth.

Most viewers are focused on: 
The singer. The judge’s reaction. 
The song. The emotion.

Not the small box sitting quietly on a desk placed at every judges table without it being mentioned at all.

If your product cannot be recognised in 3 seconds, you’ve already lost.

Strong branding answers these questions instantly: 
Who are you? 
Why should I care?
 What do you stand for?
 Why should I remember you?

Good product placement integrates into the narrative. Great product placement becomes part of the story.

Bad product placement? It becomes invisible. 

The only one that's earning and counting the cash is TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited) 

Worse still, it gives decision-makers a false sense of success: 
“We were on TV.” 
“We sponsored a big show.”
 “We reached millions.”

But reach without recall is noise.
 Visibility without clarity is waste. 
Budget without strategy is charity.

Before spending on placements, ask these questions: 
Is my brand visually distinctive? 
Will my product be clearly seen on mobile screens? 
Is there a verbal or emotional anchor?
 Is this aligned with my target buyer’s decision journey?

Or is my product just a decor item next to the mic?

If the answer is no, you didn’t invest in branding.
You funded someone else’s stage.

Marketing is not about where you appear. It’s about what stays behind when the screen goes dark.

We met at Nasi Lemak Burung Hantu (Owl's Nasi Lemak) is 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸

Because we started messaging each other and I told him I would be heading down to KL last year in Dec.

It all began.. He asked to meet up.
 Then added a line I didn’t expect.
“I heard good feedback about your training at a former institute I worked in." 

Indirectly hinting at
𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

I never thought so deeply about this. I paused. I never really understood what this really mean until I reflected when writing this post!
 
Not because it fed my ego.  
But because it reminded me why I chose this path in the first place.

The 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻.  Crowded. Competitive. 
There are 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗖𝗟𝗣 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲!

Noisy.  Everyone has slides. Everyone has credentials. 
Everyone claims impact.

But reputation doesn’t come from titles.  It doesn’t come from marketing.  And it definitely doesn’t come from self-promotion.
 
It comes from 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺.

And as trainers we operate on "No News is Good News" 
We do not really get to see the feedback our learners give to us!

This means a lot to me because I was just given a new cohort to lead as Lead Instructor from end Aug 2025 till Feb 2026 for 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮. 

I’ve always believed that training is not about sounding smart.  
It’s about making learning usable.  

Respecting adult learners.  Meeting them where they are.  

And caring enough to design sessions that actually change how they think, not just what they remember.
 
Honestly, a little shocked.
 
Because most of the time, as a Trainer, you’re just doing the work quietly.  Refining. Improving. 

Giving more than required.  Not knowing if it even lands.
 
Today was a reminder.
 
A learner-first approach compounds.  Integrity compounds.  Consistency compounds.
 
And in a crowded field, those things still matter.
 
I’m grateful.  Not because of the compliment.  But because it affirmed that value added, when done sincerely, eventually speaks for itself.

Dead men tell no lies, but their LinkedIn profiles sure do tell a story of a "synergetic partnership" that ended in 2014.

We’ve all been there. You’re scrolling through your feed and you see a notification: “𝘞𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘋𝘰𝘦 𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘺!” The problem? John has been gone for three years. 

Now you’re stuck in a digital purgatory, staring at the profile of a man who will never endorse your skills again. You can't exactly "un-network" with a ghost without feeling like a monster, but you also don't need the quarterly reminder that your former boss is still technically "Open to Work" in the afterlife.

The problem is LinkedIn does not allow you to 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 or even 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 once this account converts to 𝗜𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲.
Hence, you are forever stuck with this ghost of the past?

While trying to declutter my connections. I discovered that one of my connections died. God Rest his good soul. 

Why does LinkedIn not allow this then?

We are out here collecting connections like Pokémon cards, hoarding 500+ contacts as if we’re going to take this "global network" to the grave. 

Let’s be honest. Half of your "Professional Network" consists of people you met once at a buffet in 2018. You don’t know their middle names, and they don't know your current job title.

Why are we waiting for the inevitable to clean house?
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂?" 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁: If I see your face and my first thought is "Is that the guy from the SEO seminar or my cousin's ex?", you’re gone.
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲: If our only interaction in five years was you asking me to "like" your company page, we aren't "connected." We’re just digital clutter.
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝘅: Spare your friends the trauma of seeing your face pop up in "People You May Know" after you’ve shuffled off this mortal coil.

Take Your Secrets (and Your Bad Endorsements) to the Grave
If you want to take your secrets to the grave, start by deleting the people who shouldn't have been in your inner circle anyway. A lean, mean, living network is worth more than ten thousand digital ghosts.

Clean your list today. Do it for your peace of mind. Do it for the algorithm. But mostly, do it so no one has to feel guilty about hitting "Remove Connection" when you’re no longer around to click "Accept."

𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆? If you are looking to actually build a brand that lives forever (or at least until the next algorithm update), let’s talk about a strategy that works for the living.

Climb higher, they say.

But higher sometimes means navigating rooms where power blurs lines.
A compliment that lingers too long.
A dinner invite that feels like a test.
A promotion conversation that comes with discomfort instead of clarity.

And no, it is not always blatant.
That would be easier.
It is subtle.

Enough to make you question your instincts.
Enough to make you rehearse how to say no without paying for it later.

Then there is the other side of the ladder.
Home.

After a full day of leading, presenting, deciding, absorbing tension.
You switch roles.
Caregiver.
Listener.
Scheduler.
Problem solver again.
By the time the house sleeps,
you are exhausted.

Not just physically.
Emotionally.

People joke about “too tired for sex.”
But fatigue is not the punchline.

It is the consequence of carrying too many roles without relief.

And here is the quiet truth.

Many women are not choosing between career and family.
They are juggling both.
Badly.
Bravely.
Daily.

Now add another layer.
The women who step away.
5 years or more.
To raise children.
To care for parents.
To survive burnout without a label.

When they return, the world expects gratitude.

Instead, they face suspicion.
Technology has moved.
Titles have changed.
Confidence has dents.
They are told to “catch up.”

But Is it really their fault?
As if they were resting.
As if unpaid emotional labour does not sharpen skills you cannot put on a CV.

Here is the uncomfortable coaching truth.

Resilience should not be the entry fee.
Silence should not be the price of advancement.

And adaptation should not mean erasing who you became during the break.

Yes, some women climb.
Some endure.
Some exit.
Some re-enter.

None of it is simple.
None of it is weakness.

If this post makes you uncomfortable, good. 

Because this Is intended to drive uncomfortable conversations because women have been too quiet all these long! 

Discomfort is where honesty lives.
The corporate ladder is not neutral.
It is designed.
And not always for women with bodies, boundaries, or babies.

So the real question is not,
“Why can’t women have it all?”

Or perhaps one way to ask is...
“Why does success still ask women to give up so much more?”

Career coaching starts with truth.
Not motivation posters.
Not false empowerment.

Just honesty.
And the courage to redesign the climb.
