The past few months gave me something I didn’t know I needed, space.

Space to slow down.

Space to reflect on my own leadership.

Space to notice what truly makes a difference when working with leaders and teams.

What became clear to me is this:
growth doesn’t come from doing more.

Clarity shows up when we create space to listen: to ourselves, to our teams, and to what’s really happening.

And impact is strongest when leadership is anchored in self-awareness, not just results.

As this new year begins, I’m stepping forward with renewed energy and intention to lead with awareness, choose courage in moments of uncertainty, and help leaders and teams grow from the inside out.

No big declarations.

“If leadership is influence… and influencing isn’t my strength, can I still lead?”

I get this question a lot.

Many leaders believe influence means being charismatic, persuasive, or always “on.”

That if it doesn’t come naturally, leadership might not be for them.

Here’s what I’ve seen, again and again:
the most impactful leaders aren’t the loudest in the room.

They’re the most grounded.
Influence doesn’t begin with convincing others.

It begins with knowing yourself.
When leaders are clear about who they are, what they stand for, and how they show up, people feel it. 

Trust grows. 
Safety forms. 
Followership happens.

Authenticity is magnetic.

Not because it tries to impress but because it’s real.

You don’t need to perform influence.

You need to embody it.

So if you’ve ever doubted your ability to lead because influencing isn’t your “core domain,” remember this:
your presence, values, and self-awareness may already be influencing more than you realise.

Seeing What We Usually Miss


This horn in my hand was a key element in an organisational workshop from Barry Oshry.

It represents a pause.

A moment out of time.

A chance to step away from the action and see what’s usually invisible.

In organisations, most challenges don’t come from bad intent.

They come from unseen dynamics: roles, pressures, and system forces quietly shaping behaviour.

When the horn is sounded, we stop reacting.

We look at the undercurrents driving the system.

And suddenly, what felt personal becomes understandable.

Good people.

Good intentions.

Yet patterns repeat until leaders create space to see the system, not just the individuals.

That’s the power of stepping “out of time.”

Not to assign blame  but to build awareness.

Because when leaders can see the invisible forces at play, they stop fixing people… and start leading systems.

Just a quiet mid week reflection. 


Ironically, Focus is my 10th CliftonStrength.

I don’t think about it often.

And it’s funny how easily I get distracted by the very things I need to focus on.

Too many priorities.

Too many open loops.

Too much noise competing for attention.

This reminded me of something simple:

Focus isn’t about forcing productivity.

It’s about noticing where my attention goes and choosing it more intentionally.

So this week, I’m not trying to do more.

I’m choosing attention.

Unboxing What Was Already There


30 leaders.

One room.

And a lot of honest conversations.

Facilitating the UnBOX Your Strengths workshop reminded me why I believe so deeply in strength-based leadership.

Not because it’s trendy.

Not because it’s positive.

But because it gives leaders permission to stop pretending.

I watched leaders recognise themselves, sometimes with relief, sometimes with surprise.

I saw “weaknesses” reframed as overused strengths.

I saw quiet confidence grow when people realised they didn’t need to lead like someone else to be effective.

Strength-based leadership isn’t about fixing people.

It’s about revealing what’s already working and learning how to use it with intention.

When leaders understand their strengths: They lead with more clarity.

They relate with more empathy.
And they create teams where difference becomes 互补 (hù bǔ - to complement one another).

Today was energising not because the room was loud but because it was honest.

And every time I run this workshop, I’m reminded: The best leaders don’t add more layers. 

They unbox what’s already inside.

This idea sits at the heart of the work I do with teams.

In every CliftonStrengths workshop I facilitate, I see the same shift.

When leaders realise that differences aren’t problems to solve but strengths meant to be 互补, something changes.

Judgment turns into understanding.

Tension gives way to appreciation.

And teams stop working around one another and start working with one another.

Strengths conversations aren’t about labels or perfection.

They’re about creating a shared language.

A way to understand why we think, feel, and act the way we do especially under pressure.

When teams truly embrace 互补, trust deepens.

People feel seen.

And performance follows naturally.

This is the work that energises me helping leaders create clarity, connection, and confidence by recognising how each person completes the whole.

Sometimes, you’ve got to be the thing you never had.


Many of us didn’t grow up with perfect examples of leadership.

No clear blueprint.

No instruction manual.

And maybe that’s the point.
Leadership doesn’t come with a manual.

You become it.

You lead the way you wish you were led.

You listen the way you once needed to be heard.

You create safety, clarity, and trust because you know what it feels like when they’re missing.

That’s not weakness.

That’s earned wisdom.

The leaders who make the deepest impact aren’t the ones who copy a model.

They’re the ones who choose to be intentional…
to learn, reflect, and show up with courage especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Sometimes, becoming a leader means rewriting the manual starting with yourself.


So here’s the real question:

Success is never owned. It’s rented.
And rent is due every day.


This line came up during my morning journaling today.

It reminded me that success isn’t something we arrive at and keep.

It’s something we maintain through what we choose to do daily.

There are no lifetime passes.

No shortcuts that last.

No past wins that carry today’s work.

What keeps success around is simple: 

You show up.
You build.

You do the small things consistently, even when no one is watching.

Discipline is the rent.
Excellence is the price.

Some days the work feels invisible.

Some days motivation is nowhere to be found.

But success doesn’t respond to moods, it responds to presence.


So this morning, my reflection was this:

“Fake it till you make it.”
Most people misunderstand this.


They think it means pretending, putting on a mask until it feels real.

But that’s not what it’s pointing to.

When you fake bravery while you’re terrified…
that is bravery.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear.
Bravery isn’t feeling confident.

It’s your heart pounding before you speak up in a meeting and doing it anyway.

It’s taking on a project even though you know how hard it will be.

It’s choosing to act while doubt is still sitting right beside you.

Fear doesn’t disqualify you.
It confirms you’re at the edge of growth.

Bravery isn’t loud.
It’s often quiet, shaky, and deeply human.

So if you’re feeling afraid right now and still showing up, you’re not faking it.


You’re already doing the thing.

Why matters more than what.


Don’t have kids just because you want to save a marriage.

Don’t open a restaurant because you’re hungry.

Don’t start a business because you hate your job.

Because emptiness can’t be fixed with chaos.
And fear can’t be healed with distraction.

I’ve seen this pattern play out, in life, in leadership, in organisations.

When big decisions are made from a place of escape, they often become the very thing we later want to escape from.

New roles.
New strategies.
New initiatives.
Same unresolved why.

As leaders, we’re constantly deciding: what to build, what to change, what to start next.

The real work isn’t just choosing what to do.

It’s being honest about why we’re doing it.

Are we acting from clarity or from discomfort?

From purpose or from pressure?

Because when the why is rooted in truth, the path has resilience.

When it’s rooted in running away, the cost shows up later.


Before your next big decision, ask yourself:

Am I doing this for my truth or am I doing this to run?

When I left corporate in 2022, people assumed I was winding down.
"You've earned your rest," they said.

But I wasn't interested in a life of permanent leisure.
High-tea gets boring (after some time)
Neither do I want to travel every other month.
Nor do I want to be chasing more money and work.

I didn't want to retire. 
I wanted to reinvent - repurpose my skills.
I wanted to do more impactful work -  work that matters.

Here is the lesson many leaders miss when they leave the corporate track:

You aren't starting from scratch. 
You are simply solving a different set of problems with the same high-level toolkit.

I took 20 years of corporate strategy and leadership experience, but I changed the scorecard.

Instead of chasing KPIs and Effie Awards (marketing wins), I’m using those same skills to build psychological safety in teams.

The skills are the same. 
The application is different.
And the satisfaction? 
It lasts longer.

Getting a message from a client saying, "Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room," hits harder than any corporate award I’ve won.

Leaving corporate isn't about losing your identity.
It’s about gaining autonomy over where you apply it.

This work is harder than my corporate job because I set the bar.
But I’m learning because I “want” to, not because of a competency framework.

The best work of your life might actually start after 50.

It’s not just about living longer. It’s about “Joyspan”

In the last 6 months, I've been working with leaders and teams across different organizations. 

The conversations revealed something critical: we're at an inflection point.

And 2026 will see the greatest inflection point in our lifetime.

AI is advancing rapidly. Demographics are shifting. Economic uncertainty is mounting.

Senior workers retire while AI eliminates entry-level learning paths. 
The knowledge gap is widening very fast.

4. The Psychological Safety Collapse 

Layoffs created survival mode. 
Job-hugging and turf protection are killing the innovation you desperately need.

5. The Multi-Generational Reality 

Three generations, completely different needs. Your one-size-fits-all approach isn't working.

Five Workplace Trends Leaders Can't Ignore in 2026

As we step into 2026, we need to embrace some hard truths.

More job cuts will be announced.
AI Agents are replacing many jobs.
Organisations are cautious; they are freezing headcounts in this time of uncertainty.

And if you're reading this thinking, "Could I be next?"—you're not alone. 
That fear is real. I hear it in every conversation I have with professionals right now.

People who did everything right. Built solid careers. Stayed relevant. And now they're wondering if any of it matters when algorithms can do their job faster and cheaper.

But the ones who aren't waiting for their company to tell them what's next. 
They are asking better questions "What problems can I solve?" "What skills do I need to acquire that AI can't replace?"

Experience taught me what's possible.

Twenty years ago, I took the CliftonStrengths assessment as part of my bank's leadership program.

The insights changed how I worked.

I stopped trying to fix my gaps and started leaning into my talents.

I operated differently. 
Better.

Years later, when I built my own team, I had them all complete the assessment.

The results:
✅ Better collaboration.
✅ Higher engagement.
✅ Stronger performance.
✅ People found more joy in their work.

That experience shaped everything I do today as a coach and trainer.

I've been in the leader's seat. I know what it takes to shift a culture.


Last year, I worked with several teams across one organization on their strengths.

The awareness is powerful.
But awareness alone doesn't move the needle.

Real change starts when leadership goes first.

When they build a shared language.

When they model strengths-based collaboration.

This month, I'm back with that organisation. This time working with the leadership teams. Creating cultures where high performance and joy aren't trade-offs.

Where people thrive because they're working from their strengths, not against them.

What I truly believe in:

Culture change flows from the top.

When leaders understand their collective strengths and use them to work better together, the whole organisation follows.

When they are equipped to have strengths-based performance development conversations - this is where high performance and joy co-exist.

Today, I lean into my top strengths

💪🏼Significance: to create impact in organizations.

 💪🏼Focus: building teams that perform and feel good doing it.

Because I've lived it, I know it's possible.

I have a serious addiction. To books.  (Thankfully)
And I'm not seeking recovery. 

Reading always gives me fresh insights, new ideas and frameworks that keep me growing. 

And is extremely helpful in the work I do with organisations.

In the new year, I just finished Seth Godin's "The Practice". 

This book comprises of 219 ideas on how you can continue to deliver excellent work. 

The main idea of the book: Creative work isn't about talent or genius moments. It's about showing up every day and doing the work, whether you feel like it or not.

The "practice" means committing to your creative process without attachment to outcomes. 

You can't control if people will like your work, but you can control whether you show up.

Here's some nuggets from his book:

𝗚𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻'𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸:

• Postpone gratification (the long game wins)
• Embrace generosity (give without keeping score)
• Dance with fear (it means you care)
• Be paranoid about mediocrity (good enough rarely is)
• Avoid certainty (it kills creativity)
  
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆:

• Waiting for perfect conditions
• Needing guaranteed success before you start
• Fear of judgment
• Comparing yourself to others
• Wanting instant results
  
𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗴𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Professionals don't wait for inspiration. They have a process and they follow it. The work creates the momentum, not the other way around.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱: Stop asking "Will this work?" Start asking "Is this generous? Does this serve the audience I want to serve?"

When you focus on serving others instead of protecting yourself, creative blocks dissolve.

Most people discuss psychological safety in a vacuum. 

Is "Psychological Safety" actually compatible with "Corporate Reality"?

The corporate reality - messy P&L pressure, bonuses, performance measurement.

Let's look at the structural reality of most large organisations:

1. Siloed KPIs: Marketing needs X, Sales needs Y. Often, for me to win, you have to lose.

2. Individual Bonuses: We say "Teamwork," but we pay for individual performance.

3. The Bell Curve:  In many companies, there is a forced ranking. Only a certain % can get an "A". This naturally breeds competition, not collaboration.

4. Quarterly Pressure: When the numbers are down, the "safety" to fail often disappears overnight.

In an environment designed around competition and high-stakes performance, is asking for "100% Psychological Safety" a pipe dream?

I’m curious to hear from those in the trenches.

In a high-pressure corporate environment, is true psychological safety possible?

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱.
They'll be T-shaped.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻?
Deep expertise in one area (the vertical line of the T) + the ability to borrow ideas across completely different domains (the horizontal line).

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄:
The challenges we're facing don't fit neatly into one discipline anymore. AI isn't just a tech problem. Culture isn't just an HR issue. Customer experience isn't just marketing's job.

Here's some examples of best solutions at the intersections:
• Airlines borrowed hospitality practices to transform customer experience
• Hospitals adopted lean manufacturing principles to reduce medical errors
• Banks studied gaming design to boost user engagement

Last week, I asked a tough question in my poll: "In a high-pressure corporate environment, is true psychological safety actually possible?"

The results were telling:

👉 19% said "No, the system kills it."
👉 42% said "Only in pockets" or on a sliding scale.
👉 19% believe culture beats the system.

I hear the skepticism.

In a world of quarterly targets and individual bonuses, safety feels like a luxury we can't afford.  

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 "𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲" 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭.


Look at the transformation of Microsoft.

When Satya Nadella took over in 2014, the culture was famously aggressive.
It was a culture of "know-it-alls" where proving you were the smartest person in the room was the goal. Innovation had stalled.

Nadella shifted the entire organization to a "Growth Mindset".
He created a culture of "learn-it-alls." He prioritized the safety to be wrong over the pressure to be perfect.

The result?

Since that cultural shift, Microsoft’s market capitalization has grown from roughly $300 billion to over $3 trillion.
They didn't just become nicer.
They became exponentially more profitable.

This aligns perfectly with Professor Amy Edmondson’s definition:
"𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬, 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬."

It is not about being "soft."

It is about the 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐮𝐩, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐨, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲.

These are the exact traits that build high-performing teams.
This is my conviction.

I am on a mission to help leaders create those "pockets" of culture where people feel safe to speak up, so that they can be safe to scale up.

That's the question I close my first module with on Boardflix.

It's uncomfortable. Most leaders I work with pause when they hear it. Because the honest answer is often: "We'd keep less than we think."

𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝘄𝗖'𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆, 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 - 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

Not optimization. It is Reinvention.

Here's what I'm hearing: Companies are holding onto processes, structures, and ways of working that made sense five years ago but are now friction points. 
Legacy systems. Hierarchies built for control, not speed. 
Metrics that measure the wrong things.

The problem? We're trying to innovate using the operating system of the past.

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
• What if we couldn't hire more people? How would we work differently?
• What if our biggest competitor started today with zero baggage? What would they do that we can't?
• If we were designing our org chart today, would it look anything like this?
• If we disappeared tomorrow, who would actually miss us and why? (Relevance)
  
These aren't theoretical exercises anymore. AI is forcing every industry to answer them.
