An invaluable experience as a one-person digital marketing team 🦑

Together with a wonderful international content team, I managed and executed the social media strategy for over 20 wine brands, including renowned names like Vinexpo Paris, California Wines Institute, Diageo, D.O. Cava, Protos, and many more.

I was responsible for all digital marketing activities:

My wine tasting club: A practice ground for digital marketing skills 🍷

What started as an Instagram account about wine quickly turned into a wine club and then an online wine course. Here are some of the results from this project:

↳ Approximately 100 students
↳ 10 Offline wine tastings
↳ 10 partnerships with wine stores and influencers
↳ 300 subscribers for the Telegram bot "Online Sommelier"
↳ 5,000 followers on Instagram through organic content with an average engagement rate of 8%

⚡HOW I STARTED -Since I was a kid I was fascinated by electronics. In 1982 after finishing my studies in Electronics in the U.K. & the United States, I returned to Cyprus. At the time, the economy was growing and computerization had taken off. Everybody was selling computer software or hardware. The thing was, many newly installed systems did not work properly. These kept crashing and the buyers were blaming either the hardware or the software or both and no one had a solution to the problems.

⚡MY AHA MOMENT -That was the time when I suspected, based on my experience in the USA, that the problem was with the electricity supply powering the computers. However I was a newcomer and it was difficult for me to get attention. I had a solution and nobody would listen to a newbie.

⚡PROVING MY SUSPICIONS -Short funded as I was, I decided to invest in a machine called a Power Analyzer, a little like a cardiograph for electricity rather than the human heart. It recorded on a strip of paper power cuts, fluctuation & other interference on the electricity. Correlating problems with what disturbance I recorded for 48 hours, I offered a written report with my suggestions.

⚡MY SOLUTIONS -I also offered equipment to solve the problem. Voltage Regulators, Line Filters or the” Ultimate” Uninterruptible Power Supply, very expensive at the time. All problems were solved every time and trust was established. Sales took off and DIGICOM became known for its "Solutions to Computer Electricity Supply Problems".

Specialized in geophysical exploration. Following appropriate training at the company's U.K. facilities, worked on the acquisition and processing of seismic data, for the exploration and production sector of the oil and gas industry. Primary assignment in the Libyan desert near the Chad border.   Responsible for daily data acquisition using geophone lines, TNT explosives and earth vibrating mega trucks.  Assisted in maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment. The assignment ended rather suddenly, following a serious accident during a sand storm. A most sobering experience forcing me to reevaluate priorities.
