In 2021, PI added 2,400+ new clients and 500 new PI partners—with content playing a central role in acquisition, onboarding, activation, and retention. We also increased our high-intent hand raiser leads by 102% in 2021.

A brand paid me$12,000 to create a content strategy that brought alignment to all of their marketing channels.

📖 Backstory:

This brand had a direct response copywriter, social media manager, podcast team, and a brand strategist. 

The brand strategist had done a wonderful job interviewing real customers, and even going to their offices to see how they used their products first-hand. 

She also attended events to get even more insights on how their audience was shifting.

The direct response copywriter was doing great work, too, but was largely receiving her instructions from the sales and CS teams.

The podcast/ social media teams had also collected tons of insights. They'd interviewed customers on the podcast and kept an updated social listening doc. 

But all of these channels were completely siloed. 

They didn't share those insights with each other. 

No shared goals. No shared calendar... it was a mess. 

They needed a content strategy, but they needed systems, too.

🔍  The analysis:

When I first started working with the brand, I set out to see exactly how each of those members worked as an individual. 

I needed to see their own systems, workload, and calendars. 

That's where I discovered:

👉 No central editorial calendar
👉 The wealth of research each of them had collected
👉 The lack of metrics for each member
👉 The discordant communication/ lack of order taking system

This didn't just provide me with about 2 years of content ideas, but it also uncovered the simple switches we could make to get more alignment AND reduce the workload for everyone.

🗺️ An omnichannel content strategy:

All of their research came in extremely handy here.

In most cases, I spend 2 weeks to 1 month conducting audience/keyword research. They'd already done some incredible lifting here. They just weren't using it (which totally blew my mind).

I dumped all of their research into one spreadsheet one folder that all of them had access to in their Drive. 

From there, I was able to run through my regular content strategy process:

1. Research
2. Audits
3. Goals/ KPIs
4. Content ideation
5. Big 3 ideas/ leading milestones
6. Content calendar for all channels
7. Content briefs
8. Distribution/repurposing outlined

Because I make omnichannel strategies with a north star message, each team was suddenly able to recycle/ repurpose material from each other.

We worked on their content engine, starting with the podcast.

The podcast would filter to the blog/ email/ social/ newsletter.

All at once, they could each cut their workload down by hours each week because they didn't have to create new material all on their own.
