Most think Clay is dying due to Claude Code. 

The reality is the adoption curve is likely years behind on this transition and the state of gtme report by Garrett Wolfe backs it up. 

Turns out among 228 respondents across 30+ countries we are at 84% Clay adoption and still growing with 72% tying their work directly to revenue. 

Clay's obervability and antifragility means it's not gonna be going anywhere anytime soon. That said I think it will slowly become less of a walled garden to adjust to the API-ification of global software.

Everyone's panicking that AI will compress agency pricing to zero.

They're wrong.

Systems commoditize. Sending, scraping, enrichment - all that infrastructure stuff is becoming free.

But the actual value isn't the systems. It's knowing how to build a message that converts. and more importantly having unique taste and inuition to know a message that is worth testing.

Tools are ingredients. Systems are the recipe. But if you've cooked up a michelin star dish, a 5 year old would still prefer nuggets. 

The best message builders can just test at a greater pace. Which is only more valuable.

Best copy trick I know: reframe their current state with a label they've never heard before.

Example - lenders who depend on bigger lenders for referrals.

I called them "secondhand leads."

Now they see it differently. Picked-over prospects. 20% premiums paid to the middleman. Scraps.

Same situation they've been in for years. But now it's got a name.

When you reframe something they already know is true but never thought about this way, you become instantly believable.

They go: "Holy shit, that's exactly what we're doing."

Find your version of secondhand leads.

Draw a line in the sand. You are the new way, compare to their current way, make it the old way.

Wanna fail your GTM in 2026? Hire 10 more SDRs. Tell them to 'personalize' manually or copy paste the latest LinkedIn lead magnet on-top of your GTM.

Watch them burn out by Tuesday afternoon. 

What instead?

Sit down with your best SDR. Document everything they do in a long form voice interview.

Extract the what and why.

This is your sales context operating system.

what it surfaced:

- under 100 employees: winning
- over 100: dead
- but we were measuring size wrong: employee count is a lazy proxy, number of funds raised is the real maturity signal

a firm with 8 employees that's raised 4 funds is a completely different animal than one that raised once

cut the 100+ segment, re-segmented by fund count, the copy was right the whole time

The Blackbox Trap: Why 76% of GTM Agents Are Dead on Arrival

The 'State of Agentic AI' report just dropped, and the numbers are a bloodbath.

76% of B2B organizations are shoving agents into their GTM. Most are failing. 

Why? Because they’re trying to automate a foundation made of trash. They want the results of an elite sales team without doing the work to build one. They think the 'Agent' is a magic pill that fixes a broken strategy.

It’s not. It’s a force multiplier. And if you multiply zero, you still get zero.

1. The Death of the 'Doer' (Without Connection)
The era of the mindless 'Doer' role is over. If your job is just moving data from point A to point B, or sending templated 'bumping this' emails, you aren't just at risk—you’re already obsolete.

AI can do 'tasks' better, faster, and cheaper than any human. But AI lacks the one thing that actually closes deals: Human-to-Human connection.

Roles that rely purely on volume without connection are leaving the building. The future belongs to the practitioners who understand that the machine handles the doing so the human can handle the connecting.

2. AI is a Blackbox (Bad Context In = Garbage Out)
Most founders treat AI like a blackbox. They feed it a list of leads and a generic pitch, then wonder why the output blows.

High-data roles are getting AI-fied first, but there's a massive catch: AI with bad context is worse than no AI at all.

If your data is dirty, your ICP is 'everyone,' and your 'context' is a 2-year-old case study, the AI will just hallucinate its way into a burning wreckage of your brand reputation. Context isn't just a 'nice to have'—it’s the operating system for the agent.

3. Decision-Making is the New Fuel
We used to value sales reps for their 'hustle.' Now, we value them for their thinking.

Clear thinking, problem-solving, and ruthless prioritization are now the primary fuels for AI in sales. The AI provides the speed; the human provides the direction.

The winners won't be the ones with the most agents. They’ll be the ones who can:
• Identify the needle-moving decisions.
• Define the problem with surgical precision.
• Provide the high-fidelity context the machine needs to execute.

4. The Final Jump: From SQL to Sale
AI can take you 90% of the way. It can research, it can qualify, it can even book the meeting (SQL). 

But it cannot make the final jump.

That last 10%—the moment where trust is built, where subtle objections are felt (not just heard), and where a partnership is forged—that requires a soul. Human-to-human closes that final gap from a 'Qualified Lead' to a signed contract.

Stop looking for the 'best agent.' Start building the best foundation. If your strategy is sharp and your context is deep, the agents will work. If not, you’re just paying for a very expensive blackbox that produces very fast failures.
