With over 20 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur and investor in the cybersecurity and technology sectors, I have founded and led multiple successful startups, such as Sentek Global, a leading provider of government and commercial cybersecurity solutions, and the San Diego Cyber Center of Excellence, a nonprofit organization that fosters the growth and development of the cybersecurity ecosystem in the region.

You can't automate your way out of broken fundamentals. You'll just scale the confusion faster.

Watched too many companies dump six figures into marketing automation, sales tech, and AI tools, only to discover they're now efficiently executing the wrong strategy to the wrong audience with the wrong message.

The automation stack works. The GTM foundation doesn't.

If you don't have clarity on your ICP, your value proposition, your buyer journey and your revenue model no amount of automation will save you.

We keep seeing teams move faster and feel busier, yet confidence in growth keeps dropping.

More tools. More activity. More dashboards.

That’s because automation doesn’t create clarity. It scales whatever is already there.

If your #ICP is loose, your #valueproposition is vague, and leadership isn’t aligned, automation just amplifies the confusion. 

Sales chases the wrong deals at speed.

Reddit, Inc. overtaking TikTok in the UK isn't a story about Reddit.

It's a story about how broken everything else has become.

According to The Guardian, people are literally typing "reddit" after their Google searches because they've learned that the first page of results is SEO garbage written for algorithms, not humans. 

Google noticed, and instead of fixing their own mess, they just started surfacing Reddit higher.

Think about that. The world's most sophisticated search engine essentially admitted: "Yeah, we can't tell what's useful anymore. Here's what strangers on the internet upvoted."

If you're running a B2B company, this should make you uncomfortable.

Because right now, someone considering your product is searching "[your company] reddit" to find out what people actually think. 

And they're doing it specifically to bypass everything you've published.

Your case studies. Your testimonials. Your "trusted by" logos. All being actively routed around.

The question isn't "should we be on Reddit?" (Please don't. Nothing worse than brands showing up trying to be authentic.)

The question is: why have buyers learned to distrust everything companies say to the point where strangers are more credible?

We did this to ourselves. Years of optimising content for search instead of usefulness. 

Gated whitepapers that say nothing. 

Customer quotes that sound like they were written by marketing.

Reddit's not winning because it's good. It's winning because everything else got so bad that "random people arguing online" became the most trustworthy option.

Reddit overtakes TikTok in UK thanks to search algorithms and gen Z

In most cases revenue doesn’t decline first. Confidence does.

Before the numbers drop, leaders start adding activity. 

More meetings. More tools. More pressure. 

Sometimes even a new senior hire.

It feels like action. It rarely fixes the problem.

What’s usually breaking isn’t effort or capability. It’s the go to market system teams are operating inside.

By the time revenue shows it, the issue has been there for a while.

I’ve written about why growth problems almost always start earlier than leaders think, and why diagnosing the system matters more than doing more.

AI isn’t fixing your growth problem.

In many companies, it’s exposing it.

I’m seeing leadership teams invest heavily in AI sales tools, automation and revenue systems, yet revenue remains flat, forecasts keep slipping and alignment gets harder, not easier.

That’s because sales systems aren’t a go-to-market strategy.

They only work when the fundamentals are already clear.

If you can’t clearly answer:

 - Who exactly are we for?
 - What problem do we solve better than anyone else?
 - Why should customers choose us now?

Then AI just scales the uncertainty.

The companies getting real value from AI aren’t chasing shortcuts. 

They’re using it to reinforce strong ICPs, clear value propositions and disciplined go-to-market execution.

I’ve written an article on why revenue is rarely the real issue and why AI is making weak GTM foundations impossible to ignore.
