I spent 2 years of my life building a startup that AI agents killed overnight.

2025 was tough. Probably my biggest failure to date.

We started building Toolflow in 2023. 

The premise was simple: a 'no code AI tool builder'. You could stitch together LLM models without code and build mini-apps. It was a cool idea. You could build some pretty powerful stuff with it.

But ultimately it was technology in search of a problem.
And more importantly... no one used it.

Then agents came along and made Toolflow obsolete.

We realized that 'no code tool builders' were cool, but 99% of people don't want to build at all. 

General purpose agents like Manus were easier to use and could be used for a wide range of tasks.

General agents were promising. But they had a problem. 

A single agent that tries to do everything ends up being a 'Jack of all trades and Master of none'.  

Then Claude Code exploded onto the scene. It was built for engineers as a coding agent, but engineers secretly began using it for every day tasks because of how customizable it was. 

So we asked ourselves: 

Could we build a General Purpose Super Agent that was as simple to use as Manus, but as powerful and customizable as Claude Code?

The answer was 'yes'.

We shut down Toolflow and built Station. 

After 9 months of rebuilding from scratch, we're starting the new year by launching Station. 

Agents may have killed my first startup. 
But they gave birth to my second.

I failed to get into my chosen uni 🎓

Got a job selling door2door instead

Rejected 140 times a night to make 1 sale per day 🏚

Reapplied & got into uni 💪🏻
Graduated but then rejected by 80+ companies❌

Parents sold our house so graduated homeless and unemployed 🏚

Got dumped the same week 😢

Finally got accepted by Bloomberg
Enjoyed 3 years
2 promotions
and 5 pay rises

Met the girl of my dreams 💪🏻...
...who then ignored me for 3 weeks after our 1st date 🤷‍♂️

After 3 years
I burnt out
suffered from depression & quit my job. 👎

Cancelled a holiday id bought for valentines because i had no money left

Moved to France with no job
And not a word of french 🇫🇷

Rejected again from a ton more jobs

Hired @ Spendesk as #20 employee
Got my first ever share options in a startup
Learnt about mental health

Well its mostly Chris, cause he’s the smart one who can build stuff and I just just offer moral support and occassionally vibe code a component like the little chatbox on the website. 

Anyway, I’ve been hiding. Building Station with Chris. 

Its the product I wish existed in the world. 
And a few other people have been finding it useful. 

Soooo today is the day I’m sharing it with you all. 


What is it?

In a nutshell, its a general purpose Super Agent that integrates with 2.5k apps like Slack etc etc and can help do almost any business task. 

Why did i want it to exist?

Well, coding agents have been KILLING it in 2025…Loveable, Claude Code, Cursor…. 

But what you dont know is that  engineers have been swcretly using these tools to do all kinds of other work that has nothing to do with coding.  

You know, like everday knowledge work. 
Sending emails. 
Writing content. 
Programmatic SEO. 
The list goes on. 

But these tools, while powerful, are WAY too complicated for simple people like me. 

So i wanted a powerful, general purpose agent for non technical folk. And so we built one. 

Agents are finally at an inflection point where they can do real work end to end. 

The other day I got it working for 45 minutes straight on an SEO keyword strategy that would have taken me 3+ days and cost me over $200 on silly seo tools. It cost me literally cents to do. It blew my mind…


 Anyway, the next few days/weeks im going to show you how I’ve been automating my life and business with Station.

When I started posting on LinkedIn in 2017, the platform was a wasteland of badly written content.

There was never a shortage of interesting people.
But interesting people → turned great ideas → into bad posts.

Too often, absolute banger insights would fall by the wayside simply because they were written badly.

Great idea. Horrible execution.

But AI has now completely flipped the script.
Now, bad writers → turn great ideas →into good posts.

Yes, too many em dashes...
Yes, too much "here's the kicker"

But you know what else shows up?

Unique perspectives from people who would've never posted before because they knew their writing sucked.

AI didn't lower the quality of LinkedIn.
It lowered the barrier to entry for great ideas.

And that trade-off has made LinkedIn 100x better.

The #1 reason agents fail in production isn't what you think.

There's a big difference between how people talk about agents and what actually works in practice.

I've built hundreds of agents at Station and seen the million ways they can break:

- Bad system prompts
- Tool calling errors
- Sub-agent confusion
- Poor context engineering
- And much more

But the real issue has nothing to do with the tech.
It's trying to do too much with a single agent.

People try to replace entire roles.
"I want an AI SDR"
"I want an AI Marketer"
"I want an AI digital assistant"

This makes sense.
But the best way to roll them out is by breaking roles into smaller parts.

Narrow focus is the game.
Compartmentalization is the name.

Instead of an AI SDR, break the role into small, well-defined tasks:
- An agent for research.
- An agent for emails.
- An agent for call notes.

The narrower the task, the better the results.
