This week humbled me.
Can I be real with you for a second?

I had a moment on Wednesday where I stared at my laptop and thought, “Am I even cut out for this?”

Yeah. That was me.

But then yesterday, something shifted.

And just like that… I remembered why I do this.

Not for the algorithm.
Not for the vanity metrics.
Not even for the money (though let’s be honest, that part is nice 😂).

And if my messy, imperfect journey can be that permission slip…

Then every quiet week, every doubt, every “failure” is worth it.

She had 9 years of supply chain experience.

An MBA.

Certifications most people can’t pronounce.

And she was Googling “how to start a side hustle” at 11pm on a Tuesday.

When we got on a call, I asked her:
“What do companies pay you $120K/year to do?”

Her answer: “Optimize procurement processes, reduce vendor costs, negotiate contracts…”

Me: “And you don’t think someone would pay you $8K to do that for their company in 6 weeks?”

She laughed. “Who would hire me? I’m not a consultant.”

3 months later, she closed $27K in contracts.

Same skills. Same expertise.
Different packaging.

Here’s the truth most corporate professionals miss:

You don’t need a new skill set to build a consulting business.

You need to stop thinking like an employee.

Employees trade time for money and wait for approval.

Consultants trade expertise for premium fees and create their own opportunities.

For years, I checked all the boxes:

But something still felt off.

Not because I wasn’t good at it…

But because I knew I was made for more.

The hardest part of a pivot isn’t starting over.

It’s unlearning the life you built on autopilot.

Here’s what I realized after pivoting three times:

1. Success can be a stronger trap than failure.

It’s easy to leave what’s not working. Harder to walk away from what is.

2. People will praise the version of you that serves them most.

Not necessarily the one that’s most true to you.

3. You don’t find your purpose. You choose it.

Then build the courage to pursue it before it makes sense.

4. Every pivot is a vote for your future.

And you never run out of chances to choose again.

5. The longer you wait, the louder the fear gets.

But momentum quiets doubt. Start.

You’re more ready than you feel.

You don’t owe the world a version of yourself that’s well-packaged but deeply unfulfilled.

If something’s stirring in you, trust it.

Your pivot might look messy.

It might not make sense to others.

But it could be the most powerful thing you ever do.

You weren’t just made to fit in a system.

You were made to design a life you’re wildly proud of.

Evidence that you are moving.

If you feel doubt, it means you’re already becoming the person you used to pray to be.

I quit a job I loved because of something my boss never said out loud:

“I don’t trust you.”

Because I knew whatever I built would be undone.

And my team saw it all.

That’s when I learned the hardest lesson about leadership:

Trust is.

Being a good boss means hiring talented people and getting out of their way.

Your progress is real even if it’s not viral.

Your growth counts even if no one’s applauding.

Your one client, your first sale, your quiet consistency, that’s not “just” anything.

That’s the foundation everything else is built on.

Sleep deprivation.

I was reminded of that this week.
Four nights of interrupted sleep,
And I'm feeling beyond unfocused and questioning everything.

It took me right back to the baby years.
Back to working full-time while waking up 3+ times a night.
Back to pretending I was fine when I was barely holding on.

I remember being close to a major panic attack.
My body was begging me to stop.
But the pressure to “keep it together” was louder.

I eventually quit my job because I knew staying would break me—
In more ways than one.
And I chose to listen before it was too late.

To every working mom running on broken sleep, 
carrying the mental load of a household:

You are not weak.
You are exhausted.
And despite that, you’re doing far better than you think.

Please, please: ask for help.
Lean on someone. Take a nap.

Let something drop.
Truly—just drop it.
Who cares? 

You’re doing a hell of a job,
Even on the days it doesn’t feel like it.

This season won’t last forever.

In Canada, women receive barely 3% of VC funding.

This despite women-led startups generate 63% more value and 2x the return per dollar invested vs men…

Last night at the Show Her The Money screening, hosted by TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario, I felt two things at once:

Awe-shocked… and disappointed.

The truth is simple:

Women aren’t underperforming.
We’re underfunded.

The film proved what the data already screams:

Give women capital and they build empires.
Give women belief and they redefine industries.
Give women access and they outperform everyone.

So the real question isn’t:
“Can women build world-changing companies?”

We already are.

The real question is:
"When will the funding finally catch up to the results?"

Show her the money.
She’ll show you the return.

To every woman founder, angel, LP, and VC:

Keep pushing.
We’re not done rewriting the stats.

My 7-year-old reminded me where the real need is.

On Cyber Monday, the biggest online shopping day of the year,
I want you to pause and ask yourself:

“Do I really need this?”

This year, for my son's 7th birthday, he didn’t ask for toys.
He didn’t ask for games.
He didn’t ask for “more.”

He asked his friends and family to donate to LIFE*SPIN instead,

Because the highest ROI isn’t money.

It’s the version of you who rises after you invest.

If Cloudflare sneezes and the whole internet collapses…

We have a bigger problem than an outage.

One spike in traffic and the world went silent.

ChatGPT froze.
X glitched.
Spotify tapped out.
Even the outage tracker went down.

This wasn’t a “glitch.”
It was a warning.

If one provider can stall your entire business,
You have a weak strategy. 

And you've handed the keys of your company to someone else, hoping they never drop them...

In corporate, values often sit on posters & branded employee swag items. 

In startups, they sit on your shoulders.

One world has cushion. The other has consequences.

One of the values at a big corporate I worked at was:
“Spend every dollar as if it were your own.”

Back then, it felt meaningful, and something I could support.

I liked to pretend I honoured and lived it out, rounding spend to the nearest thousand, sometimes tens of thousands, without consequence...

But when I moved into the startup world, 
That same value hit completely differently.

Suddenly, every dollar mattered.
Every decision carried real weight.
Every trade-off had immediate consequences.

A $1,500 overspend wasn’t a rounding error anymore.

It was payroll.
It was runway.
It was the difference between “we can try this” and “we cannot afford next month.”

In a startup, “Spend every dollar as if it were your own” isn’t a value.
It’s a survival strategy.

So the principle of "spending each dollar as if it were your own" feels very different between the two:

It’s the difference between protecting a budget...
...and protecting an entire company’s runway.

In corporate, values guide your work.
In startups, they determine your survival.
