I am an executive coach who helps leaders master energy, focus, and flow. My coaching is a unique blend of neuroscience, sports science, and my experience as a senior leader in highly volatile, complex and uncertain environments. 

I helped build three companies past $8B in valuation with two IPOs and one private exit. 

I have been a hacker, researcher, athlete and explorer most of my life. 

When I was 19, I started hacking my brain with light and sound, meditation, and neurofeedback.

This led to a lifetime of finding ways to train the brain just like an athlete would train the body.

I chased flow through mountaineering, rock climbing, and endurance events discovering a formula that worked for a while but was not sustainable. 

My training  in yoga, meditation, and breathwork helped me respond to the stresses of working as an executive in the cybersecurity industry. 

Further studies in neuroscience helped me ground the training in the latest knowledge about the brain and how it responds and adapts to stress. 

This experience led me to create the Corporate Athlete Program, to help leaders do the best work of their lives, while feeling great at the same time.

The dishes don't care if you want to do them...

That project at work doesn't care if you are motivated...

When my kids complain about doing the dishes, I tell them that the dishes don't care, they still need to be done. They grumble and complain and end up doing the dishes.

A small lesson for when they face real work. 

Sure, there are times when you are highly motivated and tackle whatever challenges are in front of you. Your energy is high, your motivation is strong, and you like the work. Go for it. Ship it.

There are other times when you are tired, you are unmotivated, and you just want to collapse on the couch and leave the dishes in the sink. Instead, take action. Go for it. Ship it. 

Action will create energy.
Action will create motivation.
Action will create discipline.
Action will rewire your brain.

Because the dishes don't care.

China, 2002. I'm 17 years old, sitting in front of my PC, crushed. 

Brace yourself for a true story you’d think was written by Christopher Nolan. 

It’s 9AM with a cup of coffee and my hands are shaking as I type.

"Dear Mariah Carey, you don't know me, but..."

I'm writing to celebrities: Mariah, Whitney Houston, anyone whose email I can find, asking them to help me get to America.

My mom thinks I've lost my mind. 

Just a week ago, Cornell offered a half-tuition scholarship, and it wasn’t enough. 

Average Chinese household income: $1,400/year. U.S. college cost: $30,000-$50,000/year. I need a miracle, so I'm emailing strangers asking for one.

I hit send.

And then... nothing.

Days pass. Weeks. Silence.

Meanwhile, my world is collapsing.

In China, everything revolves around one exam, the Gaokao. It determines your university, your future, your destiny.

Preparing for anything else isn't just unconventional. It's dangerous.

My school principal calls an assembly. 2000 students and faculty. He uses me as an example of what NOT to do.

The word he keeps repeating: "Subversive."

Teachers tell other students to avoid me. Parents warn their kids I'm a bad influence.

Even my own parents start breaking: "This isn't working."

But I can't stop.

My dream school gives a "yes" I can't afford. I didn’t go that year. 

Next year: Wharton makes me a finalist of 10 in China.

I travel to Beijing for a 4-hour interview with Penn’s head of alumni in APAC. Glowing feedback from the interviewer.

Then: rejection.

I lock myself in my room and cry for three days straight.

Everyone was right. I'm delusional. This was never going to work.

But something in me won't quit.

"If you haven't tried at least three times, you haven't really tried."

I keep applying.

Year three: Five offers. Three full scholarships.

I choose one that feels right in my gut - $36,000/year covering all tuition.

I made it. 

But here's the part I didn't know...

Years later, I was talking to a faculty member about scholarship funding, and she mentioned something casually:

"You know your scholarship came from a celebrity donor, right?”

“Who?”

She breathed out a name.

Time stops.

"What?"

This person was among the ones I wrote to when I was 17. 

I went back to my old email history and wiser I am now, the recipient address is obviously a fanbase email. 

The person never got my email, but the Universe made him answer my call. 

Here's what that taught me about impossible goals:

The universe doesn't move on your timeline.

Your job isn't to see the whole path. It's to take the next step, even when the evidence says stop.

The school principal called me "subversive" like it was an insult.

Looking back, it was the highest compliment I ever received.

Sometimes you have to try three years to prove them wrong. 

Sometimes you have to be stubborn enough to ignore 2000 people saying you're crazy.

Sometimes the most rational thing you can do is refuse to be rational.

That's faith.
