In a technical product management role, I pioneered the use of semantic technology at Pearson, with a purpose of connecting data to provide organisational, content and customer insights. Created the strategy for linked data and formed a vision that spanned the key data that drives Pearson.

Served as COO of a prospective startup focused on a cloud-based data platform that would enable subscribers to share and monetize their data.

Led engagement to assess a $50Million application platform serving 3,500 users in ten Business Units.  Delivered a detailed plan to transition the heterogeneous infrastructure to a SOA architecture and revise the IT organization to optimize service delivery.

Led engagements to define and implement Business Intelligence and Analytical systems for a $1Billion marketing services organization with a 2,500-person field force.

Managed a subset of a 65-person Agile development team that implemented a $20 Million, multi-tier application system supporting a large retail financial service call center.  Oversaw implementation of custom front-end application components and managed contractors responsible for maintaining the integration layer supporting reference data synchronization between the application platform and back-end transaction systems.

Reorganized, retrained and re-staffed the underperforming 23-person MIS department, producing a more knowledgeable and responsive service organization.  Consolidated maintenance contracts, producing annual savings of 30%, and developed detailed plan to update the infrastructure and technology base, in its entirety.

Columbia Pictures Entertainment, Inc. (merger successor to Tri-Star Pictures, Inc.)

Consolidated Columbia and Tri-Star MIS staff following the November, 1987 merger into a 28-member department supporting 2500 employees worldwide.  Directed a $4.5 Million, nationwide project to re-platform infrastructure, office automation and application systems supporting 1,000 users, which was completed on a 32-month schedule and within budget.  Headed the Tri-Star Pictures group responsible for Mainframe-based applications including Marketing Decision Support, Financial Modeling and Accounting.

I help organizations define, plan for and achieve transformation on multiple levels. 

Today, transformation of enabling apps and infrastructure is only the beginning; re-engineering to enable agility and continuous transformation is the ultimate goal. I apply Enterprise, Business and Technical Architecture disciplines to help companies transition to a more competitive state. Straddling the line between business and technology, I exploit my background in both to help companies define WHAT to do and HOW to do it.

I am currently working with two co-founders to develop the Agile 2 Academy, a consulting practice focused  on helping clients to achieve true agility as described in 'Agile 2, the Next Generation of Agile.'   We approach transformation holistically, fueled by our backgrounds in Agile software development, DevOps, Organizational Transformation, Business Strategy and Enterprise Risk Management.

Based on my background in Risk Management, Risk-Based Thinking and Risk-Based Problem Solving,  I have defined a multi-disciplinary approach to Agile Enterprise Risk Management and wrote a book on the subject, which was published by CRC Press in July of 2022.  The book shows how applying Enterprise and Business Architecture, Business Process Management and transformation disciplines, such as PPM, positions enterprises to recognize and respond to changing risks rapidly.  

I have experience in Investment and Commercial Banking, Retirement and Mutual Fund Management, Entertainment, Advertising, Software Publishing and Law. I hold an MS in Management from the Tepper Business School at Carnegie-Mellon, am a Certified Enterprise Risk Manager and a PMI-certified Project Management Professional. I have managed consulting engagements, served as an ICT executive, helped to define repeatable and profitable technology-enabled services and managed departments through reorganizations, mergers and divestitures.

I have immersed myself in current technologies and disciplines, including a variety of programming languages (JavaScript, Node.js, Python), Cloud architectures (certifications in AWS), CI/CD, DevOps and AI/ML. Digital transformation is a must for any company aspiring to sustainability and these technologies and capabilities are key to it.
