Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry

Researching the spliceosome in the group of Prof. Dr. Reinhard Lührmann. The spliceosome is a complex molecular machine involved in determining which proteins are made by our cells. It trims and joins the RNA copy of a gene, so that it can serve as a blueprint for the manufacturing of the respective protein.

► My role in this field of research
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
For my PhD thesis, I developed an in vitro system to study the composition and the shape of this molecular machine at different stages of the splicing process in the fruit fly. By comparing the results of my experiments, to the research done with yeast and human cells, this work provided important insights into the evolutionary origin of these machines.

A best selling author, a multi style black belt, inducted into the UK Black Belt hall of fame, I love the outdoors and you will find me hiking, wild camping or kayaking reconnecting with Nature. My down time involves reading, drawing and having fun with my family.
