Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry

Researching the spliceosome in the group of Prof. Dr. Reinhard Lührmann. The spliceosome is a complex molecular machine involved in determining which proteins are made by our cells. It trims and joins the RNA copy of a gene, so that it can serve as a blueprint for the manufacturing of the respective protein.

► My role in this field of research
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
For my PhD thesis, I developed an in vitro system to study the composition and the shape of this molecular machine at different stages of the splicing process in the fruit fly. By comparing the results of my experiments, to the research done with yeast and human cells, this work provided important insights into the evolutionary origin of these machines.

Senior leader role as Head of Organisation Development and deputy to HR Director, spanning (approx 1,100 people in matrix environment).  Lead Reward, Resourcing, Learning & Development, Events and Corporate Social Responsibility teams.   

Working closely with the HR Director, I lead, designed and delivered strategic change initiatives/programme(s)  to create ways of working through design and delivery of people plans and Organisation Development approaches.   

Performance culture; introduction of merit based pay awards and design and implementation of new incentive scheme. Design & delivery of new performance conversation review approach.   Successful implementation of self-service HRIS (HR Information System) and LMS (learning management system) including performance review capability.

Large scale people transformation:   design/deliver strategies and plans for large scale people transformation re-structures.  Includes large scale transformation to agile working and relocation.  

Culture transformation; culture based intervention initiatives to enable business transformation.   Includes;  leadership and facilitation of ‘Let’s Talk’ initiative designed to enable organisation wide conversation, design/delivery of  new Town Hall communication approach, editorial transformation and leadership events delivered. 

Leading the development of our leaders and talent management;  design and delivery of leadership development initiative (LEAD) (Employee Engagement Awards 2017, Leadership  winner) Design and delivery of ‘Communicating in Change’ workshops for all managers (including Insights Discovery).    Includes leadership and design of leadership.

Head of Organisation Development

Care UK

Equity backed commercial organisation, providing health and social care across the UK.  Senior leader role as Head of Organisational Development, spanning across the Care UK group (approx 24,000 employees).  Leading a small direct team and working collaboratively across the matrix organisation.  

Engagement; leading and delivering  group-wide employee survey (employee survey response rate increase from 25% - 58%) including promotional campaign, result analytics and presentation at Executive level and follow-up action plans. 

Leadership and management;  development and delivery of learning & development strategy; including migration to blended learning , development and launch of Leadership & Management development portfolio across the group (DevelopMe); third party supplier negotiation and management;  leadership development interventions, including leading level development centre at leader level; coaching of managers and leaders within the organisation;  lead the design, development and implementation of the leadership framework and performance conversation approach

Talent management and developing teams; design and delivery of Care UK wide Manager Mentoring programme;  lead the design and delivery of the talent/succession management approach;  led the introduction of Insights Discovery into Care UK and designed/delivered team sessions and individual coaching sessions; led the design, delivery and facilitations of team build and strategy development workshops

Event management and facilitation, design and delivery of large leadership conferences including design and delivery of leader level workshop sessions

With nearly four years experience at the BBC starting as HR Manager to Drama Production followed by HR & Development Manager, acting as business partner to Film, Drama & Factual Commissioning within BBC Vision (approx 5000 employees) and managing a small direct team.  

Key achievements/responsibilities:
- Development of talent and succession strategies to develop pipeline within areas
- Learning and development planning to lead the development of manager capability within the areas
- Coaching of creative managers and leaders to develop management capability
- Involved in a number of critical Vision and BBC projects, including a people strategy, workforce planning and talent management strategy reaching across the organisation
- Change management programmes, including feasibility studies for re-locations of employees
- Re-structure programmes including redundancy programmes (including liaison/negotiation with trade unions)
- Employee relation management (including screen talent)
- Lead negotiations with creative talent around contracts, exits and changes

HR & Development Manager, BBC Vision

Capital Radio

With nearly eight years experience at Capital Radio starting as Human Resources Assistant with HR administrative duties, followed by a number of promotions; Human Resources Executive, Human Resources Manager and finally Senior Human Resources Manager, acting as business partner to radio stations across the group (from Xfm, 95.8 Capital Radio FM, Choice FM to regional radio stations across the country) and the Commercial (sales) division. Managing a small direct team, responsibilities included: employee relation management, HR project design and delivery to on-air talent contract management.  

Key achievements:
