Last week, I finally met one of our clients, Sarah Yeary, in person for the first time.

We’ve worked together for over a year - countless calls, reports but sitting down face-to-face just hits differently.

You get to see the person behind the business.
The drive, the ideas, the long nights that don’t show up in a P&L.
And you realise something simple:
Business isn’t built on software or spreadsheets.
It’s built on trust.

In a world obsessed with speed, AI, and efficiency, it’s easy to forget that the most valuable thing you can give someone isn’t data - it’s your time.

And meeting Sarah reminded me of that.

Simplifying Accountancy and maximising Tax Efficiency for Business Owners | Director - EA Accountancy 👨🏼‍💻 💸

You can have £40k months and still be broke. 📉

We had a client doing exactly that.
Looked incredible on paper - £40k/month revenue, nice office, growing team.
But when we dug in… they were losing £5k/month.

Just like a picture of a huge pumpkin but you cannot carry it to the car, so what is the point...

Why?
Because 80% of what came in went straight back out to freelancers, software, and overheads.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
If you’re not tracking your margins monthly, you’re flying blind.
Revenue means nothing. Profit means everything.

We fixed their pricing structure, tracked project margins, and three months later they were clearing £10k/month profit.

If you’re a service business, your gross margin should be 40%+ minimum.
Anything lower, and you’re not scaling - you’re surviving.

Stop bragging about turnover.
Start bragging about profit.

My favourite type of people?
The ones who just get on with it.

No drama.
No pity posts.
No “I’m protecting my energy” essays every time something gets hard.

They just execute.
Day in. Day out.

Meanwhile, we’ve built a culture of people who’d rather explain why they can’t than actually try.
They’ve all diagnosed themselves on TikTok.
They’re setting boundaries before they’ve ever hit burnout.
And they’ll spend more energy telling you how hard it is than it’d take to just do the work.

I’ve got no problem with people struggling - we all do.
But there’s a difference between facing it and feeding it.

At some point you’ve got to decide:
👉 Do you want to feel better or get better?

Because the people who win aren’t the loud ones.
They’re the quiet ones in the corner, cracking on while everyone else is talking.

You’re not rich - you’re just holding HMRC’s money. 💸

I see this all the time.
A business gets VAT registered, starts charging 20%, and suddenly thinks they’re rolling in cash.
“Mate, the bank balance is flying!”

Then three months later… the VAT return hits.
And suddenly it’s:
“Wait… where’s all my money gone?”

Here’s the truth:
That money was never yours.
VAT is a pass-through. It flows through you, not to you.

The fix is simple:
✅ Open a separate VAT account
✅ Move 20% of every invoice into it
✅ Pretend it doesn’t exist

If you can’t see it, you can’t spend it.

VAT shouldn’t surprise you.
If it does, your problem isn’t cash flow - it’s discipline.

You’re Not Unemployable. You’re Undisciplined.

Everyone keeps saying they’re “unemployable” these days.
Let’s be honest - most of the time, it’s rubbish.

You’re not “unemployable.”
You’re just:

- Not as good at your job as you think
(TikTok convinced you otherwise.)

- You can’t take feedback
The minute someone gives advice, they’re “toxic.”

- You don’t listen to clients
You hear what you want. Ignore what matters.

- You hate structure
But structure is literally the reason businesses function.

- You think freedom = doing whatever you want
Running a business requires more discipline than employment.

The whole “I’m too smart for a job” narrative is getting embarrassing now.
Some people are genuinely built for business.

Most people just don’t want to admit they weren’t great employees…
and running a business exposed the same habits.

Being “unemployable” isn’t the flex you think it is.

Being accountable, reliable, coachable, and actually good at your craft - that’s the flex.

In my experience working with growing agencies…
The founders who scale the fastest?
They’d be great employees and great business owners.

Because the skillset is the same:
✔ Discipline
✔ Listening
✔ Execution
✔ Communication
✔ Ownership

Call it employable. Call it entrepreneurial.

Just stop pretending ego, lateness and chaos are traits of a “visionary.”

Long story short: I'm a Marketing Strategist and Content Producer devoted to trust building.  
Long story long:
After my father's passing at age 13 I knew I needed to start covering some of my own expenses. I pitched party tents at 13, stocked a deli at 14, and caddied the greens at 15. Shortly before my 16th birthday I became the first hire at a new Thai restaurant. This kicked off an 8 year career in the service industry, where I excelled as the highest-earning server and bartender at every restaurant I worked in. This sales and marketing experience made Marist's marketing program a simple decision to make, and I continued my service career throughout COVID.

During this time I simultaneously grew an interest in video production. As a tech-savvy 13 year old in reading class I was NOT interesting in writing essays, and was given the option to create a video report instead. This project kicked off a school career full of videos of all kinds, from movie trailers to news shows to puppets on green screen. As I continued into college I was hyper-aware of the impact of video in the marketing world, and committed to a minor in video production.

I worked hard throughout my college career, which was ended half a semester early by COVID. This led me back to bartending, giving me the opportunity to capture photos of food and drinks, as well as all the new COVID dogs that were being brought to our outdoor dining. Complimentary dog photos led to paid car photos, weddings, and my first business projects.

In September of 2021 I dedicated myself to providing marketing material that does more than just shows the obvious. I found out the BEST way to differentiate yourself is to build trust and saw that many do this through face to face networking, but lack the capability of connecting with others online. I found ways to help my clients build trust with strangers to grow their businesses the right way.

In summer of 2023 I met with the partners of AB Marketing and found that we have quite a few similarities, values offerings, and experiences as business owners. After much conversation I received an offer to acquire my clients, and myself as a business development executive. Now I get to focus entirely on my client's marketing needs and growth goals, as well as spend time making new friends. This came at the same time I moved into a new home and married my wife, Katee, and I am so looking forward to this next chapter.

Word of Mouth -​> Building Trust Online w/ Video 🤝 Marketers and Founders 🤝

13 years ago I made a huge mistake as I sat next to my future best man. And it was all on camera. 😭

I always tell people I made the "silly" mistakes in video when I was in middle school. 

I still make silly mistakes, but I know that you need to fully light a green screen in order to get the right key color. (spoiler: that was the mistake)

After this I did a marginally better job using green screen with popsicle-stick puppets. Honestly that still looked bad.

I look back on these times so fondly for many reasons, and to this day I'm grateful for the experiences editing as a 13 year old. 

Patrick has since spent a ton of time in front of the camera, and hopefully we have him on NYC news in no time.

What you're missing from only having the image? We pitched our voices down to sound like adults and not pre-pubescent kids 💀 

You live and you learn. How cool is it I get to make videos for work now?

My video recommendation for marketers is a 2 line post: You deserve to have quarterly video sessions for fresh, quality, applicable content each quarter.

My office the other day… interviewing celebs for Netflix’s social media! They handed me these tickets after the activation 😵 

I’m sure we all have perks of the job, and this night was pretty perky. 

I got to chat with an all time favorite musician, athletes, and other celebs - and they actually wanted to talk to me so they can get some publicity 😆 

I could feel actual power saying “Hey I’m with Netflix social can I grab you for a minute” to Gabriel Iglesias and having him ignore EVERYTHING else in a hectic moment.

What an experience (and I did a good job not gonna lie). 

Looking forward to more experience like this with my guy Leo Justiniano!

What do I love? Making videos for businesses to share who they are. 

Duh!

This bookstore is one of the coolest stories you’ll ever hear (and you will once I wrap this edit). 

But the only way to hear Brianne’s story was to walk in her store, or hear from someone else who has. 

Now (or soon?) - she will have a video to put on her website, pin on socials, add into her email signature etc that clearly shares why this place is SO FREAKING AWESOME!

I get just as excited on site of a new architecture project, or capturing emerging battery technology too. 

They put in so much work and care so hard - and it’s so important for others to see that. 

So does your brand have a consistent video program?

Do you share your story, updates, and wins regularly?

If not, I’d consider having at least a quarterly video session to communicate clearly and credibly to your audience. 

Otherwise they likely will only know what’s up when they walk in your space or see you in person.

I recently got back past 6 figure impressions after having a huge drop off with my springtime break. 

Many don’t think it’s that special, and with all the guru’s out there neither do I really. 

But who am I kidding. Where else could I get 5,000 people to even take a look at me in a week - for free? 

Literally nowhere. It’d cost me a lot of time, money, stress, and gallons of hand lotion from 5,000 handshakes. 

I wouldn’t turn that down either but still… 5,000 eyeballs from having a blast networking (online)? 

I’m not passing up that opportunity.

P.s. the cumulative graph is was sexier but a marketing ploy from LI, so I’ll be real and share the ups and downs. (Cumulative graph in comments though).

“Just send me the raw footage” is such a funny thing to hear for videographers. 
Here’s why 👇

	1.	Their computer likely can’t open the files.

New cameras are capturing formats like .mxf more and more. They’re super high quality, super heavy, and unless you have pro editing software they literally won’t open.

I love QuickTime too, but it won’t cut it.

	2.	They don’t have the storage or the RAM.

The whole reason I’m writing this is because I’m casually moving 87.85 GB of footage for a few seconds of b-roll.

Industry standard SD cards are crazy fast (and crazy expensive), and you need high speed drives and cables just to make transfers go smoothly.

I started typing this post when the transfer began and it’s done already. 

And working with huge files means sitting on terabytes of extra storage. 

See: the some $2k worth of hard drives and SD cards stacked on my desk 😭 

I also just invested in a newer, bigger server setup to store everything and make my team’s workflow easier.

And for RAM… even just watching high quality footage puts pressure on my Mac w/ 32gb. Unless you’re a serious gamer or you just buy 3k dollar laptops for fun, modern footage will stutter and lag like crazy.

	3.	They don’t use LOG color formats.

Most of what we capture is in a LOG color space. If you upload that to your computer it’s going to look grey, flat, and washed out.

Without the right LUTs or the ability to color a scene properly, you’ll feel like you’ve gone back a few decades in video quality.

And we take a lot of pride in our LUTs by the way.

So next time you ask for raw footage, just make sure you’re ready for what that means!
