Recently funded companies are one of the strongest signals.

And most teams still approach them the wrong way.

70% of our customers are funded companies.
And 30% of our leads come from this exact campaign.

In a nutshell, every founder who raises a round starts receiving the same message:
“Congrats on the funding - wanna buy my thing?”

Rule number one when targeting funded companies: don’t talk about the funding. Rule number two: find another signal within your ICP.

A lot of funded companies these days are in AI, healthcare, blockchain, etc., so your outreach should be based on the specifics of the company.

And yes, it’s not going to be a huge list.

Here’s the flow:
1) Create a filtered list in Crunchbase - Seed / Series A / B, specific markets, specific categories. There are plenty of filters.

2) Export up to 1000 companies ($99/month) or use the Clay extension to parse it directly.

3)Add the list to Clay and segment properly by ICP/persona. Make your ICP deeper to add additional filtering value and relevance.

4) Find and score decision-makers. Don’t just grab “CEO/Founder” and send.
The list isn’t big - think about alternative entry points. Review profiles, see what they’re actually doing, and use that for segmentation and personalization.

5) Send personalized outreach. Email + (or) LinkedIn. Consider using Twain for 1:1 messaging, but spend time setting up the right framework for better outputs.

5 things you should NOT do in cold emails

In 2026, when we don’t really have problems with tools and infrastructure, I still see companies doing the same things again and again - and then saying outbound doesn’t work 👇

It’s not roasting, it’s for educational purposes. 

We need to think about how a prospect sees our email.
Today, in the first episode, we’ll look at a very good strategy (with a very funny execution).

Once I got a cold DM from a founder on LinkedIn.

It was a really human DM, and relevant. It was about something I do myself, but I wasn’t sure I was doing it correctly because of a lack of focus and probably expertise.

So I asked a question - “Can I share a Loom explaining what I do, and you would quickly reply with what I’m doing wrong?”

“Sure,” she said, so I did it. I expected she would propose jumping on a call to discuss my questions, answer them, and pitch the solution.

It was 6 months ago. I never heard from her.

How much revenue did her company just throw away?

The same thing happens with cold emails. How many times have you replied to a really relevant email and then never heard back from the person?

What’s the point of doing lead generation if you don’t reply to interested responses?

That’s a common problem. It looks like the chance of getting a reply from a sales rep when you’re interested is nearly 50/50.

That’s fine for me. I outperform my competitors with good old, simple follow-ups. I don’t have deals or prospects “hanging.”

Prospects and leads in my CRM either have tasks for the next action, sit in a nurturing pipeline, or are disqualified.

So before your team starts talking about GTM, tools, or expanding markets, I can predict how much money you’re leaving on the table just by looking at your CRM.

LinkedIn outbound thoughts

This question has come up very often lately. People become disappointed with email and switch to LinkedIn.

And it’s a tragedy how they use LinkedIn:

 - Buy a Sales Navigator account
 - Filter by standard industry filters + job titles
 - Export to a tool
 - Send!!!

As a result, all the “strategy” comes down to either pitching in the connection request or pitching right after the connection is accepted.

In the first case, you get a low acceptance rate. In the second, you get a normal acceptance rate - but a low reply rate.

Come on, guys, it’s 2026.

I wouldn’t treat LinkedIn as a funnel like “X connections sent → Y leads generated.” It’s a social network, after all.

1) Create content. Good content builds trust, attracts engagement, creates value you can share, and gives you posts you can promote.

2) Wide campaigns are not really ideal here. If you run them, make them persona-based - but double- and triple-score people, since on LinkedIn anyone can write anything in their profile.

3) Rather than filtering by job title, use the person’s role description in their profile. If you don’t have enough data - skip that person. Tools like Clay, Icypeas, and Trigify should be in your stack. You need to carefully score prospects. It’s not email - here your name and picture are visible. Once you get a couple of reports, your account is gone.

4) Signals, social monitoring, and email as a complementary channel are the three main things I would leverage LinkedIn for.

5) With Trigify.io (or manually + PhantomBuster), you can scrape people engaging with posts. But please don’t act dumb: “Hey, I saw you commented on this post - want to buy my stuff?”

6) Anything I missed? LinkedIn gurus, your turn.

Is step 1 really the most important in a cold email campaign?

That’s what the data usually suggests.

But here’s something interesting.

In one of our top-performing campaigns last month, 10 out of 13 opportunities came from the second email.

That’s 76%.
Now zooming out.

Across all our 2025 campaigns at TMNKO:
 - 49% of replies come from step 1
 - but only 44% of opportunities come from step 1

So yes, step 1 matters.

But killing a campaign just because step 1 underperforms? That’s a mistake.

In this specific campaign, step 1 had a 0.9% reply rate.

Many would have turned it off immediately.

That would’ve killed 76% of the opportunities.

Don’t shut campaigns down too early.

At least let step 2 do its job.

That’s not targeting. That’s sorting.

What actually matters is this:

👉 What is common among all prospects on your list?
👉 What situation are they in right now?
👉 What makes them contextually similar?

That’s where relevance comes from.

Just look at some of the best-performing campaigns I’ve ever run:

🚀 CMOs who stepped into the role 3 months ago
🚀 Recently hired analysts
🚀 Companies from a specific directory on Clutch
🚀 Local companies working for foreign markets

Notice something? It wasn’t about industry. It wasn’t about revenue.
It wasn’t even about geography. It was about a shared condition.

A moment. A trigger. A structural similarity.

Of course, TAM-wide campaigns still matter. You need volume.

But even there - don’t stop at basic filters.

Instead of:

“B2B SaaS 11–250 in NA”

Think:

“B2B SaaS using Intercom chatbot.”
“B2B SaaS with a multi-language website.”
“B2B/B2C SaaS with a 5–10 person sales team”

Now you’re not targeting an industry. You’re targeting a situation.

And in an AI era where everyone has access to the same databases and the same tools, specificity is your only edge.

Check your targeting. If your results are below average, this might be why.
