My background in front line operations, compliance, management and training in financial institutions, stood me in good stead when I fell into the world of Data Protection.  I qualified as a Data Protection Practitioner in December 2019 and I've been hooked ever since!

Recognised as being a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills, I was shortlisted and a finalist in the categories of Rising Star and Compliance Officer of the year at the PICASSO awards in 2022.

Having presented at a number of international conferences, spoken on panels and contributed to international privacy drives I enjoy enthusing others, sharing my knowledge to stakeholders helping them develop and strong and uncomplicated privacy culture and ethos across the organisation.

As an ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Lead Auditor, I believe that compliance of all relevant legislation should part of an organisations culture and not a tick box exercise. My ability to interpret and delivery regulatory requirements across the business, whilst maintaining high internal principles and keeping external business drivers at the fore, ensures that compliance does not become an afterthought in the business.

In my current role, I work with a number of international clients of all sizes, helping them to develop and deliver their privacy programme in a manner that suits their organisation.  Understanding the customers drivers and priorities is critical to success.

My passion for data protection privacy is linked closely to my passion for people. I firmly believe that data protection and privacy is not and should not be just a work thing but a life thing. Data protection and privacy are all about looking after people - just like you and me.

Based at the Freeman Hospital, part of the Corporate Risk and Data Assurance team reporting to the Chief Executive. 

My main responsibility is reviewing Caldicott applications, but I am also heavily involved in Freedom of Information requests and Data Protection Impact Assessments. 

Additionally, I get involved in risk management, data incident reports and digital requests, as well as attending the Change Advisory Board weekly as the IG representative.

I was hired part time as a Data Protection Executive while I finished my History MA with the intention of going full time once I had finished at university. I worked two days a week, mostly in office in the beginning in order to receive some training on the role before shifting to a hybrid form of working partly from the office and partly from home.

Robinson Bequest Bursary Student - received a bursary for working 3 hours a week within the university's special collections reading room, supervising researchers using the reading room while also working on an archival project.

As retail began to reopen after the lockdowns of the Covid-19 pandemic, I had to transfer from the Dundee store to the Metrocentre Gateshead store as I had moved back home from my university city. I worked my first few weeks as a till operator then moved to the menswear department for the rest of my employment. I was one of the most experienced members of staff on my department on weekends so I had a lot of responsibility.

Experienced data protection and information governance practitioner with 2 years in the industry. Currently working towards the Level 4 Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioner Apprenticeship. 

Spent 5 years studying History at the University of Dundee and Newcastle University which allowed the development of many skills and provided numerous opportunities. Extracurricular experience in societies and clubs at university, as well as working on University Open Days throughout. 

Confident in a busy environment as well as having time-management and leadership skills developed through time at university and in the workplace.
