Organizational transformation isn’t just about launching a new system—

It’s about reshaping behavior, reordering priorities, and rethinking mindsets.

And yes, it’s hard.

When the energy fades, the real leadership begins. Here’s what anchors it:

1️⃣ Small, consistent actions outperform grand gestures.
Consistency is king when shaping culture and driving real change.

2️⃣ Resistance is part of the process—it means you’re disrupting the norm.
Plan for it. Check in with your people. Adjust as needed.

3️⃣ Systems need time to recalibrate.
Progress is often invisible before it becomes exponential. Give your organization at least six months post-implementation to see tangible results.

4️⃣ Change feels slow—until it suddenly feels obvious.
Patience is a leadership virtue. People need time to adopt change.

5️⃣ Your job is to hold the vision—even when no one else can see it yet.
Stay focused on the destination. Let your team figure out the “how.” Make progress visible. Celebrate small wins.

Last Wednesday, I had the incredible honor of speaking at the Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association (NWIIWA) Professional Women’s Conference.

I shared insights on strategic networking and career visibility with a room full of powerhouse women.

The topic hit home — because just one year ago, I was in their shoes.

I’d spent 17 years in manufacturing — in high-risk industries like nuclear, oil, gas, and petrochemical — delivering consistent, impactful results.

But when a manager told me I “needed more experience” for a role I had already done, it hit me.

I didn’t have a skills gap. 
I had a visibility gap.

I had let my work speak for itself for too long — and it wasn’t telling the full story.

I was first introduced to the concept of personal branding in my MBA program, and that’s when my shift began.

I began to realize that by staying silent, I was leaving space for others to define my story. In a market where visibility shapes opportunity, that silence was holding me back.

Once I saw this clearly, I started looking at the bigger picture — and the stats tell a compelling story.

👉 70–80% of jobs are never publicly posted — they’re filled through networks (The Interview Guys, 2024; Management Consulted, 2024).

👉 75% of résumés are filtered out by ATS systems before a human ever sees them (Korn Ferry Institute 2024).

And yet... many of us hesitate to tell our story.

Why?

Imposter syndrome. 
Cultural conditioning. 
Fear of sounding self-promotional.

But the more we name this, the more we can challenge it — for ourselves and for each other.

After the session, I spoke with women navigating layoffs, career transitions, fractional work, and stagnation. Many were struggling to be seen — despite significant experience and differentiated talent.

I’ve heard the same from the project management community at the recent Project Management Institute Summit. 

This is a very real conversation for many senior professionals today.

This year, I decided to take a different approach and let AI lend a hand with my Thanksgiving prep. 

Here’s how it made a difference: 

🛒 Simplified Grocery Shopping 
ChatGPT consolidated all my recipes into an organized shopping list, grouped by category for maximum efficiency. 

⏱️ Streamlined Cooking Plan 
I received a detailed timeline to optimize appliance usage and ensure all dishes were ready on time. 

🍽️ Customized Servings 
ChatGPT adjusted ingredient quantities to match the number of guests, saving money and reducing waste. 

🧠 Smart Leftover Strategy 
With repurposing ideas, nothing will go to waste. 

With a little help from ChatGPT (or your favorite AI tool), you can stay organized and have more time to enjoy the holiday with your loved ones.

I walked into the Professional Women’s Conference last Wednesday expecting good speakers… I did not expect to get punched in the gut by a single question: “When was the last time you lost track of time?”

That moment became my favorite part of the entire event, because it forced me to confront how often we run on autopilot instead of actually engaging with our work or ourselves. The speaker broke down stress versus micro-stress and laid out a six-step plan for building micro-rests into your day—breathing intentionally, checking in with your body, changing your scenery, listening to your needs, reaching out for support, and taking real mental breaks through journaling, meditation, or even a walk to the chickens.

What really stuck with me was her reminder that “Creativity is not Creating.” Creativity isn’t about forcing output; it’s about giving yourself permission to slow down, think, wander, and reconnect. Turns out the best ideas show up when we stop white-knuckling the day and allow a little space for the brain to breathe.

This session didn’t just inspire me—it challenged how I move through my day and how I show up for my team. And honestly? That alone was worth the price of admission.

If you’ve ever looked at your portfolio and thought, “Why are we still doing this?” — you’re not alone.

Last Saturday, I had the honor of presenting Zombie Initiatives: A Survival Guide for Spotting—and Escaping—Dead Weight Projects at the Project Management Institute Global Summit.

Attendees learned how to identify zombie initiatives inside their portfolios and how to create the psychological safety required to facilitate a “zombie hunt” — where stakeholders feel empowered to challenge, question, and ultimately kill work that no longer adds value.

In my session, we explored:

 🧟‍♂️ How to identify zombie initiatives hiding in your portfolio
 🧟‍♂️ How to revive work that still has value
 🧟‍♂️ How to create a psychologically safe environment to kill work that no longer serves your strategy

But the summit wasn’t just about sharing my frameworks — it was also about learning from others. 

Sessions on portfolio health and navigating Agile–Hybrid portfolios were outstanding, and I had the opportunity to exchange best practices with portfolio leaders tackling prioritization, governance, and hybrid delivery models across industries.

It was great reconnecting with leaders from last year’s PMI Educational Foundation and supporting the Light the Way Gala — a yearly reminder of the impact this community creates and a wonderful opportunity to support their mission.
