Tobi Oladimeji is a seasoned data professional and community leader committed to helping small businesses leverage data for better decision-making. With experience across industries and regions including Canada, India, Australia, UK, US and Germany. Tobi brings a global perspective to solving complex business challenges.

His leadership journey began at Landmark University, where he served as Assistant Academic Director, Academic Director, and ultimately President of the Nigeria Association of Computing Students (NACOS). There, he built strong academic and professional support systems for students, fostering a thriving tech culture.

In 2021, Tobi was named a top 17 finalist in the Global Data Hackathon hosted by 10alytics, showcasing his technical expertise and ability to collaborate across cultures and time zones.

In 2022, Tobi founded Data Fellows, a global data innovation ecosystem designed to make data more practical and impactful for small businesses. What began as a collaboration space for professionals has grown into a company building products, experiments, and partnerships that help businesses make better decisions. Today, Data Fellows is home to a 1k+ member community across 15+ countries and supports businesses in Canada, Nigeria, and beyond.

Tobi Oladimeji

It’s funny how some foundations are laid before you even know you’ll need them.

Elijah Soladoye and I first crossed paths in 2018. Same Computer Science class at Landmark University. Just two students trying to survive assignments and figure life out.

Later on, I served as President of the Nigeria Association of Computing Students (NACOS National), Landmark University Chapter, and he was financial secretary. At the time, it didn’t feel like anything special. It was just responsibility. Budgets. Meetings. Decisions. Getting things wrong and correcting them.

After school, we even found ourselves working at PwC.

Different setting. Higher stakes. Same patterns.

I didn’t think much of any of those seasons while they were happening. Now I see them differently.

Leadership before ambition is different.

When you’ve seen someone handle small responsibility well, and then watched them operate in professional environments, you’re not surprised when they handle bigger ones.

Now we’re building Inscend and he’s our founding software engineer.

What gives me confidence isn’t just skill. It’s pattern. I’ve seen how he operates across seasons long before there was anything public about it.

I’ve come to realize there’s product market fit, and there’s team market fit.

One is about whether people want what you’re building.

The other is about whether the people building it can actually carry it.

Eight years later and we’re still aligned.

That means something.

I saw a post by Adewale Yusuf about choosing a co-founder, and one thing he mentioned stuck with me: conflict resilience.

It’s been over a year of building with my co-founder, Nnamdi O., and if I’m honest, that trait matters more than people realize.

Nobody advertises the tough moments when you’re choosing a co-founder. You talk about vision, skills, ambition. You don’t talk about the days you strongly disagree. Or the days pressure makes conversations sharper than usual.

But those days come.

And what defines the company isn’t whether you avoid conflict. It’s how you behave inside it.

I’ve learned that conflict resilience is not about winning arguments. It’s about staying committed to the same outcome even when you see different paths to get there. It’s about being able to say hard things without attacking the person. It’s about remembering that the business is bigger than your ego.

Vision alignment from the beginning helps too. When we first met and I shared the vision for Data Fellows, we were aligned quickly. Funny enough, he had been thinking along similar lines before we even connected. That made passing the vision easier. It didn’t feel forced.

But alignment alone is not enough. Alignment is tested under tension.

As we prepare for some announcements around Inscend, the only posture we’re keeping is this: stay close to the vision. When distractions come, and they will, vision is the anchor.

I don’t think people talk enough about this part of co-founder dynamics. It’s not just complementary skills. It’s emotional maturity under pressure.

Choosing a co-founder isn’t about who makes you comfortable. It’s about who can withstand discomfort with you and still protect the mission.

That’s something I’ve come to respect deeply.

There’s something different about bringing someone in when things are still forming.

Sami recently joined us as our founding AI engineer Inscend , and I’ve been paying attention to what that changes.

When you’re building early, nothing is fully defined. The problem evolves. The data isn’t clean. The architecture is still being debated. Every decision feels like it could shape the next six months.

What I’ve noticed already is that the right technical person at this stage doesn’t just write code. They influence how you think.

There have been moments where a simple question from him made us pause and rethink an assumption. Not dramatic. Just thoughtful. And that kind of thinking compounds.

Early builders don’t just ship features. They quietly shape standards. They influence whether you rush or whether you sit with the problem a little longer.

It’s still early. We’re figuring things out. But I value having someone who isn’t intimidated by undefined problems.

Replying. Fixing. Checking. Adjusting.

It feels like work.

It feels important.

But at the end of the week nothing really changed.

That is the part that stings.

Being busy is easy.

Choosing what actually matters is harder.

I think a lot of us rush too fast.

The first few customers come in and instead of slowing down, we immediately start thinking about scale.

How do I get more?
How do I push this harder?
How do I grow faster?

I have done that before.

But recently I’ve been sitting with a different thought.

What if the first 10 customers matter more than the first 1,000 impressions?

Not because they are big.

But because they are honest.

They chose you when you were small.
They trusted you when you were unknown.

That’s not noise. That’s signal.

There’s a difference between something being hard and something just not being clear. When the direction is clear, it’s usually simple to explain. This move takes us from A to B, and if we stay consistent, it should produce C. It might take effort, but the path makes sense.

When the direction isn’t settled, that’s when things start spreading out. More options show up. More “maybe we should also try this.” The plan grows in different directions and suddenly it feels complicated. Most of the time, the complication isn’t coming from the situation. It’s coming from hesitation.

Clarity tends to narrow things down. You know what you’re doing and why. Uncertainty does the opposite. It keeps expanding the picture until you’re juggling too many letters at once and none of them feel grounded.

Be honest.

There are times you already know what you want to do.

Then you open the numbers.

Not because you are confused.

But because it feels better when the numbers agree with you.

It feels safer.

We like to say the data led us there.

Most of the time, it just helped us feel more comfortable with the choice we already made.

Paul Graham said it best.

Ambition grows faster in the right room.

There are times when I tell myself I’m just waiting for more clarity. I’ll say I need more information or that it’s better to pause than rush. And sometimes that’s true. But sometimes I’m just avoiding the discomfort of choosing.

When nothing moves, it feels like I haven’t committed to anything. But that still shapes the outcome. Momentum slows. Other options fade. People adjust around the silence.

It’s strange how easy it is to call that “being thoughtful” when it might just be hesitation. The result still lands somewhere, whether I claim it or not.
