Most ecom founders are busy.

But busy doing what?

There's a simple test I use when I need to cut through the noise and figure out what actually matters right now:

Imagine someone pulls you out of your normal routine, locks you in a room with a laptop and internet, and tells you — you have 30 days to generate revenue. That's it.

What do you work on?

Because I'll bet it's different to what you worked on today.

That gap? That's the prioritization problem.

I made this mistake for almost a year.

We were selling out of product every second month. Couldn't keep stock on the shelves.

And I was spending my time on marketing.

Not because I'm stupid. Because fixing supply chain felt unfamiliar and uncomfortable — so my brain just refused to look in that direction.

Meanwhile, I was capped. Month after month.

The problem wasn't effort. The problem was I was solving the wrong problem really well.

Here's what I've learned:

Running an ecom brand is just a series of problems to solve.

The job isn't to do everything. It's to identify the most critical problem standing between you and your goal — and knock it down.

Ask yourself "why" enough times and the real bottleneck surfaces.

Why aren't we growing faster? → Why is revenue stalling? → Why are we always out of stock? → Oh. Supply chain.

That's the work.

One more thing worth saying:

A priority cannot be to learn something.

A priority is to ship something. To finish something. To put something into the world today that wasn't there yesterday.

Learning feels productive. It's often just procrastination with better branding.

Passion fuels my drive for the business and supply chain world, and it all stems from the remarkable legacy of my grandfather, Morris Rosenzweig. 

After surviving the horrors of the Holocaust, my grandfather arrived in Canada with a burning determination to rebuild his life. In the 1950s, he embarked on an ambitious venture, starting a dress manufacturing business.

Fast forward 65 years, the industry had drastically transformed, with only a select few local manufacturers remaining, including my grandfather's business.

Through my grandfather's and then father's unwavering dedication and perseverance, they defied the odds and outlived almost all the competition. Most of the hundreds of other local manufacturers did not make it.

What happened to the other hundreds of local businesses, and why did that fuel my passion for supply chain?

The Journey Begins 🌟
Before the 1980s, importing products from overseas was less efficient due to non-standardized shipping containers. Consequently, hundreds of local manufacturers, including our family business, thrived as there wasn't strong competition.

The Era of Standardized Containers 🌍
Fast forward to the 1980s, when standardized containers revolutionized the shipping industry. This change allowed manufacturers in Asia to produce products of equal or even superior quality at significantly lower costs. With cheaper living expenses and readily available raw materials, keeping production in Asia and importing finished goods to North America made sense.

The Supreme Court just struck down a big chunk of the Trump administration's tariffs. That's great news for brands that have been navigating uncertainty. But it doesn’t mean that tariffs are over. There are likely more to come.

We actually just did a study that showed just how impactful tariffs have been: more than 90% of brands have raised prices due to tariffs, and more than 70% have looked to expand into new markets to offset their impact.

Those companies could be eligible for refunds, but we'll have to wait to see how those will work.

Many companies have already taken steps to build better agility into their supply chains, and that agility is what can help create certainty regardless of what happens next.

If you’re a DTC founder, here’s how to get a negative cash conversion cycle 🤑

Why you grow faster:

If you get paid by customers before you pay suppliers → you can fund growth faster.

Step 1: Eliminate the cash float.

Old way: Supplier → 8 week ocean freight → pay supplier → pay ALL tariffs up front → THEN start selling. Cash is locked up for months 🔒

Flip it: Set up point-of-origin fulfillment. Supplier → 1 day to warehouse → start selling immediately → pay tariffs per order AFTER customer pays you → pay supplier 💸

Step 2: Trade unit cost for better payment terms.

This is the part founders mess up. Instead of focusing too much on margins, focus on getting your cash to compound quicker 🔄

Here's the math: Say you have 50% margins and Net 90 terms. Production finishes, inventory hits the warehouse in one day. You now have 90 days to sell just half the batch to fully cover the PO from revenue.

Step 3: Measure ROAS and cycle into growth
If you understand your channels, you can cycle the freed-up cash through multiple ad → sale → restock loops within that same 90-day window 🔄💸

Step 4: Produce smaller, cycle faster.

With cash cycling this quickly, you don't need to bet big on massive POs anymore. Smaller batches mean less inventory risk, faster iteration on new products, and the agility to react when something takes off 📈

I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes the status quo in 2 years. Most founders I talk to are starting to move in this direction!
