Cancer doesn’t survive by chance. It survives by being clever.

Stanford scientists have shown that cancer cells don’t just hide from the immune system using one trick – they use two powerful “don’t-eat-me” signals to escape destruction.

One of them, CD47, is already well known – an invisibility cloak that tells immune cells to stand down. Blocking it is already being tested in humans.

But here’s the breakthrough:
Tumors also use MHC class I as a second stop signal, binding to a receptor called LILRB1 on macrophages – effectively paralyzing the immune response.

When researchers blocked both pathways at the same time, something remarkable happened.
Tumors became visible.
