Dr. Nora Gold is an editor, former professor, and the author of three books of fiction. The first, Marrow and Other Stories, won a Canadian Jewish Book Award and was praised by Alice Munro. Fields of Exile won the 2015 Canadian Jewish Literary Award and praise from both Cynthia Ozick and Irwin Cotler. Gold’s most recent book, The Dead Man, received glowing reviews, including from the Los Angeles Review of Books, and won a Canada Council translation grant, resulting in The Dead Man being published in Hebrew. An excerpt of this novel was also translated into Hungarian and appeared in a prominent literary journal in Hungary. 

Gold, at one time a social worker and a tenured social work professor, was also, for six years, the Writer-in-Residence at the Centre for Women’s Studies at OISE/University of Toronto. In addition, she is the founder and editor-in-chief of Jewish Fiction .net (www.jewishfiction.net), a prestigious online literary journal that publishes first-rate Jewish-themed fiction from around the world, either written in English or translated into English from 18 languages. To date, Jewish Fiction .net has published 500 works of fiction that were never before published in English, including fiction by eminent authors like Elie Wiesel. An organization that works to prevent, rescue and rehabilitate survivors of trafficking and modern slavery, and empower at risk and vulnerable children, youth and women, impacted more than 75

1 lakh Women in 20 districts of rural Assam and now Pan India by engaging them in workshops, training, and awareness on issues of trafficking, gender-based violence, and ill effects of social media.

The organization adopts different mediums of storytelling by including them in activity; role plays, and skits, thus bringing a positive change which resulted in the eradication of child marriage, arrest of traffickers, stoppage of school drops outs and reporting of substance abuse, and other forms of violence against children since January 2021 amidst peak covid. And is
bringing change by creating an impact in their lives.

Approaching the New Normal, 

We're a group of six individuals working in education and have come together to discuss how COVID-19 has impacted our education system. 

Although a lot is already being done in this area, we aim to contextualize the issue and break it down to its lowest element. We're trying to see the impact in different arenas - curriculum, pedagogy, administration, planning, teaching, etc.; and how it affects education and higher education. 

And to better understand this differential impact which might further exacerbate the existing inequalities in our society, we're inviting guest speakers from different parts of the country who could join and help us better understand the COVID-19 impact.
