For me brain health is personal and I created Noggin The Brain People with a mission to improve the cognitive health of the nation. We want to start a national conversation about the importance of brain health and specifically, help people understand even small lifestyle changes can make a difference to how you feel now and the health of your brain as you get older. No one is too young or too old to start looking after their noggin and we are committed to help support brain and mental health education for children to break the cycle of poor brain health.

Working as a doctor has always come with distinct challenges, but currently it feels like it has reached an all-time low with staggeringly high levels of burnout and many leaving, or thinking of leaving, the profession. But that is very far from being an easy decision to make. It feels like a relentless tug-of-war between the factors making you want to leave and those that make you want to stay, robbing you of even more headspace and energy, and preventing you from being able to get on and enjoy life.

WHY ME?

I worked in the NHS for 24 years, in a career spanning General Practice, Sexual Health and Medicine for the Elderly. I stepped away from the NHS completely for a couple of years to set up my coaching practice, and now have a portfolio career comprising coaching, business mentoring for coaches, and some clinic cover in Sexual Health. I understand the conflicting emotions when you’re questioning whether or not you want to stay in medicine, the cost associated with just carrying on, how easy it is to do nothing for fear of judgement and guilt, and how difficult it is to get started when you're not yet clear on the what and the how. I also know how much better it feels when you get the right support and get into action - just taking that first step is energising in itself!
