The UK's Health & Social Care Act (Department of Health, 2008) requires that healthcare facilities maintain a clean, appropriate environment that facilitates the prevention and control of infection. Effective environmental decontamination is an essential part of meeting this requirement.   Indeed, ensuring that the healthcare environment is safe and compliant is vital for patient safety.
