Respect to Semrush for not hiding criticism, but their subreddit has turned into a wall of frustration. 60% of the posts there are about:

- terrible cancellation experience
- huge prices
- lack of support
- problems with data accuracy

It looks like their team doesn't see them as problems. It's a plan. Here is a quote from their CFO, Q3 2025 - Earnings Call Script, published 4 days ago.

"As of September 30, 2025, we reported approximately 114,000 paying customers, down from the prior quarter, primarily reflecting our strategic focus on engaging more sophisticated and higher-value customers".

Pay attention to the trend (based on public documents):

- Q1 2025 -> 118k paying customers
- Q2 2025 -> 116k paying customers
- Q3 2025 -> 114k paying customers

Maybe it's not about Semrush, but about the global recession in general, or the SEO industry, where Google is taking more and more organic traffic?

These factors may affect partially. But my puzzle fits together too well:

- Users complain about Semrush on social media more and more
- 40% of our demos start with "we are looking for Semrush alternative"
- C-levels openly say that they have shifted their focus to enterprise clients

I won 2nd place in organic SERP by a high-intent keyword, with a post on the branded Sitechecker subreddit that has only 25 members.

It should remove your doubts about whether you need to create a branded subreddit.

I've published the same post on LinkedIn, Twitter and a branded subreddit. So, it's not unique content, but Reddit has a special place in Google's heart.

Yes, Google prefers content from popular subreddits at first, but this is an example that you can get value even from a small branded subreddit. 

Start with long-tail and low competition keywords and create detailed, real content. I created this post based on the demo call with one of the prospects. 

You don't have to spend a lot of time; just transcribe the discussions you have.

Sitechecker on-page SEO extension has reached 200k+ installs. It was hard.

In Nov 2024, we had 178k installs, and for 9 months, we were on a plateau. 

I wanted to achieve 200k as soon as possible, because I feel it impacts the conversion rate from plugin page views to installs. Let's see whether I am right.

Our biggest competitors are:

- SEOquake (1mln+)
- SEO Meta in 1 Click (900k+)
- Detailed (500k+)

Can we hit 1mln and how much will it cost? Yes. 

We already have unique features: GSC metrics, keywords, URL inspection API, and page content changes. However, this is available only for paid users. 

I assume that we can hit 1mln installs only if we do 3 things:

1/ Add GA4 metrics too as a feature.
2/ Make the entire Sitechecker app and extension free for 1 website forever.
3/ Start running paid ads for this extension.

This is just a hypothesis. Do you want a 100% free extension that allows you to check GSC and GA4 metrics for any page in 1 click? How often will you use it?

Have you ever seen such a brand/non-brand report based on GSC data?

I've not seen and I'm happy we built it. You see everything on one screen:

Your customers constantly ask you how well they perform in AI chats. Now you have to show them both:

- how many non-branded clicks you've generated for them from Google
- how many branded clicks you've generated for them via AI chats

Substack could 10x its search traffic overnight 

All they need is to fix one tiny thing -> 

help Google to get good titles of people's notes.

Substack has a great foundation for SEO with their newsletters and author profile pages (if you don't have your profile there it's worth to create).

Substack even generate titles for each note automatically (3rd screenshot), but Google doesn't use it for some reason. 

On other side, Google generate titles automatically for LinkedIn posts, while LinkedIn does nothing for this (each post has <title>LinkedIn</title>).

Anyway, it's a huge leverage for Substack. If they find how to fix it, it can send a lot of search traffic to them, because there are tons of great content in notes. 

What do you think?

Can you rank a new page in Google's top 10 by the "semrush alternative" keyword in 1 month with 0 backlinks? 

Yes, if you have:

1/ old trusted Medium profile where many other pages already rank in the top 
2/ unique and detailed content (I've never used AI-generated text there)

Both points are important. I saw people create new accounts on Medium and try to do the same. Their content isn't even indexed.

I built my Medium profile as a separate asset. Some valuable articles are published only there. I also built backlinks to them from my other websites: Hack the Algo newsletter and Ivanhoe Digital blog.

I hate calling it parasite SEO, but people understand this term better than others.

In 2026, I will ask myself and my team two questions:

- How to create more unique and interesting content
- Where it's worth publishing it (own website? Medium? Reddit?)

Because publishing content on own website is often a bad idea. 

Yes, it's harder to measure the impact of content published on thirty-part websites. But this is a bet you have to make. 

P.S. Sad truth, that the comparison page Sitechecker vs Semrush on the website ranks only in 20-30 positions.

It's interesting to consider the root of this incorrect information. 

I use GetLatka every time I conduct research in the SaaS space. 

The biggest value of this website is unique interviews of Nathan Latka with founders and CEOs, where they often share unique info on revenue and employees that they didn't share before.

However, for Favikon, it looks like wrong information. I assume the use of AI chats for collecting and enriching data may be one of the reasons for it.

The Search Console team released annotations on search performance charts!

There is good news and bad news:

Good news: they did it!

Bad news: considering the speed of adding new features, they will be able to fix all the limitations they have and create a great tool in 5 years.

2 good features per year and 10 features to add = 5 years. 

What are these 10 features I talk about? Here are all of them:

1. Show the top-ranking page for each keyword and the top-ranking keyword for each page to catch the context of the query or page much faster.

2. Show absolute and relative changes immediately on the chart so we don't need a calculator each time we do a comparison.

3. Exclude data by all branded search queries in 1 click and compare branded vs non-branded clicks and impressions. 
 
4. Create page segments by URL rules (contains / not-contains) or a custom list of URLs and compare segments in one report.

5. Apply multi-condition filters by pages and keywords. For example, the page contains X and doesn't contain Y.

6. Filter keywords and pages by metrics ranges. For example, show keywords or pages with an average position of < 20 or Impressions > 100.

7. Filter data by multiple countries, not only one country.

8. Save any combination of dimensions and metrics as a quick filter for later. 

9. No 1,000 row limit on keywords and pages available for export.
 
10. Check the performance and indexation of the last published pages.

After 2 weeks and 100+ members in /r/seogaps, Reddit suggested promoting my post like thought leadership ads on LinkedIn. 

I'm curious whether anybody of my followers tried it? 

I'm experimenting with LinkedIn thought leadership ads now, and it works well, when done right. It's interesting to compare with Reddit ads.

The biggest bet I make against Ahrefs working on Sitechecker in 2026 

I love Ahrefs. I use it every day. I'm impressed by their growth, but ...

It's hard to believe their Ahrefs Web Analytics can compete with GA4.

The value of data by conversions, user behaviour, and channels performance grows for agencies, because a multichannel approach becomes a standard to grow visibility in search and AI chats. 

Ahrefs feels that, and launching their own Web Analytics tool is a strong move. But this move also means they won't add GA4 integration to their app. 

Which I think is a wrong step.

- GA is used on 45.0% of all websites, and on 79% websites where tracking code is identifiable (note that many websites don't have tracking codes at all).
- Ahrefs is used on 0.3% of all websites, and on 0.5% websites where tracking code is identifiable.

These are great numbers anyway, as for a new web analytics tool, but I think further growth will be harder.

Yes, everybody hates the new GA interface, but anyway, people continue to use it for different reasons: a habit or a lot of integrations or something else.

That's why I see it as a chance for Sitechecker. Building unique and easy-to-use reports based on the GA4 API will help:

1/ Fix the pain of using the native GA4 interface for many SEOs 
2/ Fix the limitations Looker Studio have (I know many use it to fix the 1st issue)
3/ Enrich GA4 data with GSC and content changes monitoring data

I forecast that in 2026, more SEO agencies will also conduct Google Ads search campaigns for their customers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Here are the roots of these changes:

1/ Google eats organic search traffic in two ways:

- AI overviews eat clicks by top of funnel and middle of funnel keywords.
- New layout of Google Ads eats clicks by the bottom of the funnel keywords.

2/ The AI chat adoption hasn't ended yet.

3/ Google AI mode as a default option in Google is very close to us.

So, the brands review their marketing budgets, and SEO is at risk. Yes, C-levels want to talk about AI chats, but I assume that most agencies already have action plans for this new channel and have already repositioned themselves to SEO / AI search agencies. 

However, the biggest shift should be from SEO budget to Google Ads search campaigns. 

When you help your customer get the 1st position by the most competitive keywords, and it has 2-5% CTR, not 30% as before, it's hard to explain why the customer should continue doing SEO instead of ads.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts, to understand whether we should add Google Ads as a data source to Sitechecker and build insights based on it.
