This GSC + GA4 blended report will change how you analyze landing pages.

3 reasons your SEO forecasting routine won’t be the same:

HOW IT WORKS

- We import overall search performance metrics and metrics by landing page from GSC.
- We import GA4 metrics for all sessions where Session source/medium = google / organic.
- We enrich data by GSC landing pages with GA4 metrics.
- We calculate Clicks and Key Events potential by landing pages.

WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT

1/ Check how the changes in Bounce Rate, Avg. Session Duration and Avg. Position correlates.

Popular use case -> website design updated, bounce rate increased, rankings dropped.

2/ Use one chart to answer all customers' questions related to traffic drops.

Pages aren't equal, and traffic is a vanity metric. In a new world where almost all websites are affected by AI overviews and more Google ads, your customers will ask about traffic drops. 

Now you have one chart where you can show that: 

- site CTR decreased (but Avg. Position didn't change) ->
- that's why Clicks decreased -> 
- however, Key events have grown -> 
- so you do your job well, because you keep focus on the right content. 

3/ Show your customers the organic growth goldmine they sit on. Get the forecast by Potential Clicks and Key Events in the table.

We calculate how many additional Clicks and Key Events the specific landing page can get, if it will rank №1 by all search queries it already ranks for, and the Session Key Event Rate will be the same as 90 days ago.

This is an approximate number, but it helps you to sort pages by potential and choose which of them are worth your attention (to build more internal links, backlinks from other sites, update content, improve UX, and so on).

WHY THIS IS SO VALUABLE

It looks like blending GSC / GA4 was a forever pain for most SEOs, but anyway, there were no good enough tools to do it easily on scale.

I built my own Looker template 5 years ago for this purpose, but it always requires some editing, and this is not as flexible as this report.

Bing added an AI performance report to Webmaster Tools 

The report gives data on your visibility in Microsoft Copilot:

- total citations
- avg. amount of cited pages
- grounding queries (not real user queries)
- amount of citations with breakdown by pages

This is too little information, but the good news is that it should force Google to add something similar to Search Console. We need this competition.

However, the data looks too optimistic for me. I compare citations by pages and real traffic from Copilot to these pages in GA4, and here is what I see (Sitechecker's website as an example, data for last 3 months):

- /website-safety/ = 104k citations and 96 sessions = 0.1% CTR
- /on-page-seo-checker/ = 36k citations and 59 sessions = 0.2% CTR
- /rank-checker/ = 16k citations and 48 sessions = 0.3% CTR

I assume you'll see similar numbers on your websites.

What is one type of content you would create for LLMs that doesn't make sense to create for SEO? My answer:

Use cases pages or "for whom" pages.

4 years ago, we created such landing pages at Sitechecker:

- /soultions/ecommerce/
- /solutions/governments/
- /solutions/agencies/
- /solutions/publishers/
- /solutions/saas/

Only /solutions/agencies/ had search volume and clicks, so after some time, we left only this one page in the menu.  Also, agencies became our only audience. 

Should I create landing pages to target specific use cases, such as how we help e-commerce agencies, local SEO agencies, web development agencies, etc?

2 years ago, I could definitely say NO. In a new era, I think it makes sense. 

I know we won't have search traffic to these pages, but LLMs will use this content, and it may have a huge impact when our potential customers enter hyper-personalized search queries about what type of agency they run and which SEO tool they look.

We just crossed 500 members in /r/seogaps in ~3 months.

As promised, I start publishing a new type of content there:

Whom should I invite first?

Are you comfortable waiting six months for your Reddit thread to rank in the top 10, with no guarantees? If no, don't launch your own subreddit.

If you think long-term and want to build a real community, where members can even downvote your own posts, be prepared to wait. As Favikon does. 

According to Ahrefs, /r/favikon/ has 24 pages with ranked keywords, and one thread by high intent keyword "best influencer marketing campaigns" in top 3.

However, this subreddit also has 1300! pages indexed in Google at all.

Consider that Ahrefs is the best tool to check which threads of your subreddit rank and by which keywords, but this also doesn't have the complete picture.

Your thread may be shown by multiple low-volume keywords, when you'll see 0 traffic in Ahrefs for it.

The properly developed subreddit is always more than just an SEO asset. It's a huge part of your brand marketing, where your current and potential customers can ask questions, share their challenges, and give real feedback about your product updates.

60% of agencies and consultants have retainers < $2,500/m

The fact from the headline is the 1st thing that surprised me. Considering that one SEO can't work with more than 3-4 customers effectively, and how much the good tech stack for SEO delivery costs, it looks too low for me.

Capterra completely deleted the Sitechecker company profile with 240+ reviews from the site. If you run SaaS, check your profile too immediately!

Yes, there is an option to bring back the profile, but I didn't get any emails about that. 

Also, on the 2nd screenshot, it's clear that I don't need to add any additional info for the Capterra listing. I just have to click submit for review to bring back my profile back.

I don't know whether this is a huge bug or a planned solution after acquiring Capterra by G2. Anyway, you have to check your SaaS profile now.

SEO alerts we created just saved our own website from a huge traffic drop.

Somebody added noindex tag to valuable pages with a lot of traffic.

There are 3 popular scenarios of how this mistake happens.

MARKETING TEAM RELATED (most popular)

1/ Your SEO or content manager reviews the performance of local versions of the page and decides that it is not worth keeping this page in the index.

2/ This person adds a noindex rule in the meta robots tag, but often misses rechecking whether it's implemented properly, and whether the main English version isn't affected by this rule.

Almost all websites, including WordPress and Webflow, have pitfalls in managing indexation status for different local versions. It's just too easy to make such a mistake because of inattention when you edit hundreds of pages.

DEV TEAM RELATED

1/ Your developers make any edits on the test version of the website, which is closed from the Google index entirely. 

2/ Sometimes they make a release and forget to change the noindex tag to an index tag.

CMS AND PLUGINS RELATED

Your CMS and plugins are also updated by humans, who can make mistakes. 

HOW TO DETECT SUCH ISSUES ASAP

If you work with multiple websites, it's just a question of time before it happens.

You don't notice the issue for days and weeks, because it takes time even for Google to recrawl these pages and read new noindex rules. You'll detect the issue only when you see the drop in clicks in Search Console, usually too late.

1. Set up Sitechecker alerts to email or Slack for all websites you manage.
2. Make sure you track at least 1 keyword for each important landing page daily.

The more your client's website earns, the more an undetected error costs daily.

Have you also noticed huge changes in rankings after Jan 25-26? 

It looks like an unconfirmed Google Core update for me.  I see changes on almost all GSC properties at Sitechecker I have access to.

The biggest negative change I noticed on a couple of Favikon page segments:

- /features/
- /find-influencers/

These pages are action-oriented; AI overviews aren't the reason for the decline.

Reviewing how the top of the SERP has changed and how pages that win are different, I found 2 patterns:

1/ Google rewarded influencer marketing platforms that added pages with free tools without requiring sign-up. 

This is an old wisdom that pages with less friction win. We've tested this on Sitechecker pages years ago, too. After these learnings, I found that each website that wants to continue winning in search will have to:

- solve a dilemma of organic traffic vs conversion (more here https://lnkd.in/d729udbj)
- hire people who understand how to align product and SEO (more here https://lnkd.in/d3-tRY-m)

2/ These page segments on Favikon have ranked well for some time, despite the fact that the content of these pages wasn't perfect. I assume it happened because Favikon has a huge brand awareness, and there was no need to invest into on-page content improvement.

However, what does the perfect content of the feature landing page mean in the age of AI? 

One man shared with me the article about the new Google algorithm (which was surprisingly released on Jan 23) https://lnkd.in/dgxbavJT, and it looks like an answer.

For B2B SaaS product landing pages, it means creating content that describes every small aspect of what your product can do, and why people choose it, and in which situations. 

- AI chats don't take part in your demo calls.
- AI chats describe your product only based on what they already know, based on existing info on the web, which is always outdated and not complete. 
- AI chats don't know all possible use cases of your product.

That's why asking AI chats to write your product landing pages means that you don't know your audience or product at all.

In this case, the problem is not that Favikon used AI content for these page segments (they didn't). The problem is that they didn't say enough about everything they can do that other platforms can't do.

It looks like this isn't true love, just a romance, between OpenAI & Microsoft.

ChatGPT reminds you to check whether the links to the Microsoft site are safe.

What's next? Will Microsoft block OpenAI bots from crawling its own sites at all?

P.S. For context, I asked for an API doc to import Search Performance data from Bing Webmaster Tools.

We've already shipped page segments in GSC insights at Sitechecker, and I'm curious how important it is to add a keyword segments report.

When I focus on getting more impressions and clicks by some topic, the metrics by keywords better represent whether we move in the right direction. 

For example, I often need to check how performance changed by keywords that contain:

- alternative
- best
- google search console
- how / what / when / why
- software / tool / platform / product

For different niches, these keywords may be different. Yes, part of the job you can do with saved filters, but the most interesting insights you can get when you compare performance by keyword segments in one report the same way as you compare them by page segments.

And page segmenting is not enough for this task, because pages doesn't fully represent the keyword groups:

- multiple pages may rank by one keyword
- many pages can't be added to specific segment at all because there is no unique subfolder for them.

We have many features in a roadmap, and your vote helps to understand whether we should release it ASAP.
