Can't write your website copy? 

Welp, you must be "too close to it." That's what everyone says.

Nah. In my experience, that isn't the issue. If you find yourself writing in circles and getting nowhere, you probably:

⭕ Don't have a strong POV on the problem you solve 

🥵 Solve too many problems and can't tie it all together

This was me throughout 2024 — toiling away on my website copy like I was Michelangelo painting the goddamn Sistine Chapel and getting nowhere. 

Finally I said, "Screw this."

That's when I decided to solve ONE problem (it's hard to build trust and credibility) via ONE service offer (original research report).

And when I sat down at my MacBook, my new offer (Believable Research for skeptical buyers) AND my website copy materialized in two days. 

I kid you not.

The words poured out of me like I was Linda Blair on the Exorcist. 🤮 

And while yes, I'll tweak and improve things as I go (because I am a psycho), I finally have web copy — and an offer — I feel proud of.

B2B marketers think: "If we publish original research, we'll be a thought leader."

Well, uh, hate to break it to you …

But you’re a marketer, not a researcher. 

Do you actually have the skillset to publish a report that oozes genuine expertise — or are you making rookie mistakes that quietly damage your credibility?

Are you sure you're up to speed on designing and conducting survey research?

Or if you’re outsourcing the project, are you sure your contractor is up to speed on these things? Or do  they just occasionally "dabble in research"? 

Because when I see a sloppy report, I know the marketing team was winging it. 

- No mention of data quality checks or confidence intervals
- No cross-tabulation to uncover richer insights within the data
- No testable hypothesis ... only a data dump

If your methodology is sloppy, your insights are built on garbage data. 

Garbage in, garbage out.

You don't become a thought leader by publishing a PDF with charts. You become one by publishing credible, defensible insights that actually make people think, "Hmm ... never thought of it that way before."

Nothing like walking into a dinner half an hour late while everyone's already seated and mid-conversation!
