I’m easing back into work today for one of my retainer clients

(shhh don’t tell anyone 👀)

Their £900K grant fund opens tomorrow so I’m at my desk ready to lead their organic socials and keep their channels firing when momentum matters most

But my OOO is staying firmly on until Wednesday, when I’ll properly settle into 2026 for the rest of my brilliant clients (and to work through the 542 emails in my inbox 😆)

December tipped into burnout zone so I’m keeping January intentionally light with fewer clients, more focus, and even greater work

Grateful for clients who trust me to lead the big campaigns and day-to-day moments of their content marketing & copywriting

And I’m determined to spend 2026 building a business that protects my energy just as much as it prioritises delivering bloody brilliant results for my clients 

After a festive break spent running, hiking and wild dipping, I’m ready for the year ahead… just not rushing it like I usually do 😇

When I was a little girl I always dreamed of developing market-fit messaging strategies and writing high-performance copy that drives conversions and increases MRR 😌

My marketing journey has kind of come full circle

Started out in the world of direct response marketing → transitioned to digital and found a love for content marketing → carved out my copywriting skills and dived into allll things conversion copywriting & user-led messaging → bringing ALL of it together

The storytelling, strategy, psychology, user research, copy frameworks…

Everything I’ve learned over the past 11 years feeds into what I do today

And it means I can help my clients develop strong messaging across the entire customer lifecycle

There’s one little rule I follow for every copywriting or content marketing project I work on:

understand what your audience actually wants/needs + help them get there

That’s it :)

Question: how do people actually work on the train to London?

I just spent 53 minutes tapping away on my keyboard and feel like I’ve done 17 rounds in one of those fairground gravity wheels 🤢

This time last week, I was whizzing down to London to run a content marketing workshop for a brilliant marketing team at an education charity

We spent a full day diving into every part of the content process and plugging any gaps in their strategy along the way:

→ Choosing your content pillars
→ Optimising your content (for people, Google and AI)
→ Creating content for every funnel stage (to encourage conversions)
→ Creating campaigns for Hero content
→ Measuring content performance

A heck of a lot of post-it notes were used and all that big-thinking was fuelled by some tasty food too

(honourable mention to the NCVO's delicious lasagna... and the afternoon M&S percy pigs went down a treat too)

We centred the workshop around their core challenges, making sure they got actually actionable learnings that would strengthen the great work they’re already doing

Next, it's over to the team to put everything into action (supported with the deck, the workshop exercises, an easy one pager handover doc, and of course, myself just an email away)

I always thought a *good* freelancer had to be a master-of-one

Pick one thing and make that THE thing you’re known for

But then I realised being a master*-of-multiple-things suited me (and my clients) a heck of a lot more

I like the variety

And my mix of copywriting + content marketing + strategy skills is actually more of an advantage for my clients than if I just sat in one of those lanes in isolation

This approach results in messaging aligned across every single touchpoint

So I’m at my happiest when I’ve got a mix of:

• LinkedIn marketing retainers focused on building an ecosystem around your brand, encouraging engagement, and raising your trust and authority

*master feels a bit big headed. I’m pretty good at what I do but I’m humble (and self-critical) enough to know there’s always more to learn and do

I've had a lovely morning at Cardinal Newman College Preston where I got to get on my LinkedIn-shaped soapbox and share some personal branding advice, strategies, and exercises to a room of 90 college students 

Showing up online, giving people a glimpse of who you are, and connecting with the right people can make a *huge* difference to your career or business trajectory

I can't wait to see how the latest cohort of the UK Ministry of Defence Digital & Cyber bursary programme put those learnings into action... like Mus'ab Ibn Faisal who's already dived straight into LinkedIn 👏

There's a lot of talk about what we should do in response to AI search (AEO, GEO, ee-i-ee-i-oh...)

And if there's one thing I know, it's that good content hygiene will alwaaays be in style

So, here's how I'm tightening up my process as a content strategist + writer with a few small-but-mighty tweaks ↴

→ Clear intro that sets the tone for what the content covers
→ Anchor-linked contents table for easy nav (when platforms allow)
→ Super simple + short definitions for key terms. Usually 1-2 sentences. Then I'll expand on it further if needed
→ Helpful FAQs at the end of the content piece (where it fits, not just shoehorning them in)
→ Strong final summary that wraps the piece up with clarity + next steps
→ Thoughtful internal/external linking to build topical authority and trust
→ Encouraging clients to use strong author bios alongside their content

It's all stuff I already did when writing content

I'm just being more deliberate about making sure I prioritise these elements in the content creation process

AI or not, content should help real humans first... and if you start there, the rest will follow nicely :)
