Slamming my laptop shut and spending a wet, rainy and chilly week in the Highlands was just what I need to refuel my brain for the next 6 weeks of intense work

October flewwwww by. I swear I blinked and it was over? I am busy, busy, busy and I’m grateful, grateful, grateful

Total clients: 9 (6 retainer + 3 projects)
Total revenue: £10,536
Hours spent on client work: 134
Hours spent on non-billable work: 26
Total hours: 160 (plus a few mins)

Projects worked on:
→ Clarity Action Plan
→ Technical blog articles
→ Social media content planning
→ Content strategy development
→ Organic social media management
→ Monthly email marketing newsletters
→ Brand messaging for a few different businesses

Highlights:
→ Working with a lovely new client on a mini project
→ Getting stuck into some gritty, technical topics for blog writing
→ Getting to run a Clarity Action Plan for a business friend (yay 💛) who was feeling stuck with their positioning
→ Diving into juicy audience to map out the messaging for two VERY different clients

Lowlights:
→ I'm definitely working at capacity right now (working avg. 8.45 hour/work day)
→ Rescheduled hospital apts and horrific migraine attacks meant multiple days out (hence the 8.45 hour workdays)

Between current booked work and potential work in the pipeline, I'm officially at capacity for the rest of 2025. What a lovely problem to have 🥰

My local farm shop has the BEST (and tastiest) strategy for marketing their cakes ↴

If you order a drink (yep, even tap water), they’ll give you a tiny bite of cake with it for free

And trust me when I say, they are incredible at baking. Like, they make cakes that Mary Berry, Bruce Bogtrotter, and Nigella Lawson would all be proud of

So…

You devour this tiny, bite-sized piece of cake with your coffee

You realise “wow, that’s delicious!”

Then, just before you pay up and leave, you wander over to the cake counter, deciding you’ll just treat yourself and grab something to take home

And voila, they’ve just upsold you a cake (or three*) with one tiny, bite-sized piece

If I was going to make this a marketing lesson, I’d blabber on about having some kind of valuable lead magnet that gives people a taste of what you do for free then using that lead magnet to entice them into your paid offers… or maybe just buy people cake and hope they’ll come back for more 


*The real cherry on top of the cake is that each cake only costs £2.40 and it’s usually as big as your head. Incredible. I hope they never get affected by the economic crisis, shrinkflation, or the horror that is chocolate snacks becoming “chocolate flavoured”

There's nothing better than watching someone realise they can own who they are... without needing to shout to be heard

Back in spring, I delivered a personal branding talk at VarnFest Future Leaders by Varn Search Marketing, chatting all about the power in showing up as your real, unedited self

The stories people shared blew me away (I mean, you can literally see the proud mother hen look on my face in that last photo 😆). There was so much honesty, vulnerability and lightbulb moments as people started to see how to bring more of themselves into what they do

A little before that, I ran a series of LinkedIn personal branding workshops for college students on the UK Ministry of Defence Digital & Cyber Bursary programme

Now, I get to see those students pop up on LinkedIn, sharing their experiences as they step into their new careers... And honestly I feel pure joy every time I see them post!

Soooo, I'm veryyyyy excited to team up with The Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub again in the new year for their next cohort

Quiet confidence is bloody powerful. Personal branding doesn't have to be icky or fake. And I can't wait to watch more people realise they can be successful *and* show up as their real selves at the same time

Excuse me while I sign all my emails off like this until the end of the year...

Anyone else found themselves in a hyperfocus pit from 8am-5:30pm every work day as they try to work through the never ending pile of projects, campaigns, and "can-you-just-do-this" requests 😆?
