Owner

At 3 Portfolio LLC, the demands and needs of its network change rapidly. I've tried various firewall / networking solutions from a wide variety of manufacturers, but there wasn't a solution that was flexible enough to maximize the daily use cases.

So I decided to build my own networking appliance called, 'ASHIRA.' Considering my sustainability goals, I brought a server I haven't used in quite some time back to life to give it a new purpose. With the help of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), I was able to design, build, test, and implement ASHIRA in under three days.

In addition to using server-grade hardware components, I am using Proxmox 8 VE as a virtualization environment. One VM instance runs OPNsense in a Multi-WAN IPv4 / IPv6 Policy-based Routing configuration, while another VM uses an encrypted logical bond for mission-critical streaming applications that require redundancy. On the client (LAN) side, I can change from a primary / secondary WAN to a bonded WAN configuration in seconds.

The ASHIRA project demonstrates my ability of leveraging AI to quickly architect and deliver performant network infrastructure. I intend to further implement AI resources that monitor global network security incidents to ensure the safety and integrity of every bit of data.

Creator of an Adaptive, Secure, High-Performance Internet Routing Appliance (ASHIRA)

3 Portfolio needed the ability to serve millions of Internet users simultaneously for the reliable access to a wide range of websites (mostly WordPress) and web-based applications. To accomplish this goal, I created the "Tracy" and "Nina" Infrastructure Architecture (TANIA).

Four "Tracy" Servers are placed into geographically-dispersed data centers as front-end Traefik TLS Passthrough TCP Routers. Amazon AWS Route 53 is used for Domain Name Service (DNS) and Health Checks for the Tracy servers, ensuring that public Internet traffic is efficiently balanced and rerouted in the event of a failure or outage.

Nine "Nina" Servers are also placed into geographically-dispersed data centers as back-end Linux Nginx MySQL PHP (LEMP) servers. One of the Nina servers functions as a Primary Source Cluster Node for files and MySQL InnoDB Cluster data, which gets replicated to the other eight Nina servers. MySQL Router is used in Read / Write Splitting configuration to efficiently balance and optimally route MySQL traffic. This configuration also ensures the integrity of data writes, and performantly scales data reads.

Tailscale is used to interconnect all servers using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service mesh. A Bash script on the Tracy servers Health Checks a PHP script running on each of the Nina servers to ensure uptime and high availability (HA) of every LEMP stack component on each Cluster Node. Several optimizations of all Tracy and Nina servers allow each server to handle over 1 million simultaneous connections.

The greatest advantage to this infrastructure architecture is that it is platform agnostic. Although TANIA was developed on the Proxmox Virtualization Environment (VE), the Cluster Nodes can be created on any Virtulization platform, and hosted on any Cloud Service Provider (CSP).

TANIA demonstrates my proficiency in system architecture, network design, database management, and DevOps practices to create secure and performant production-ready infrastructure.

TAMEE (Technology- and Media-Enhanced Experiences)

The Technology- and Media-Enhanced Experiences Program, also known as TAMEE, was first created in June, 2008. I taught a Tech- and Media-based, Out-of-School Time (OST) curriculum for Creighton University’s Upward Bound Program. Over 50 students participated in a variety of activities based on an incentive-driven curriculum designed for disadvantaged college-bound high school students. The prize for that particular year was a new laptop computer.

Points were given to students based upon their participation of activities both in- and out-of-classroom. I created a website showing the leaderboard for all of the participating students. As a result, the session had 100% class participation, not only because the curriculum was relevant and of interest to the students, but also because no student wanted to be at the bottom of the leaderboard.

That summer, I was selected as “Teacher of the Year” by students and staff of the Upward Bound Program.

Since its inaugural debut, TAMEE has served hundreds of middle and high school students (many of whom are on Free and Reduced Lunch) and given away thousands of dollars in prizes and incentives.

Beginning in 2023, TAMEE will be expanding its footprint to offer on-site, mobile, and virtual programming to young adults, senior communities, and professionals around the world.
