Substack is going to be a BIG GROWTH channel for firms in 2026! 


After researching 400+ newsletters in the accounting space, I found that the top creators who are growing fast are doing a few very specific things differently.

1. They treat Substack Notes like a mini LinkedIn.
They post 1–2 short Notes every day with small, tactical insights instead of long posts. Client stories, missed deductions, audit mistakes, regulation updates written in 3–5 lines. Each Note automatically carries a subscribe button.

2. They turn every newsletter into a distribution flywheel.
Each weekly issue promotes one lead magnet, a checklist, calculator, or template. These lead magnets are reshared as standalone Notes, LinkedIn posts, and discussion threads all pointing back to the newsletter. One newsletter = multiple discovery surfaces.

3. They leverage Substack’s internal network.
Top creators don’t grow in isolation. They:
- Enable recommendations so other newsletters can feature them.
- Swap mentions with complementary writers (e.g., CFOs, business coaches).
- Join comment threads under big newsletters weekly adding insight, not links.
These compounds reach inside the Substack ecosystem without ads.

4. They build referrals into their audience loops.
They use Substack’s referral program intentionally:
- 3 referrals → resource template
- 5 referrals → private Q&A
- 10 referrals → free tax strategy session
Readers become promoters because they get access, not discounts.
