"My birthday is a day before yours!"

My heart held its breath as the cashier checked my ID.
You see, my big brother David died the day before my birthday in 2021.

NO matter how many years pass, the grief is the same.
But so is the reminder:

Loss reminds us to live.

And I know that’s exactly what David would want for me.

To not just be alive, but to live. Fully and completely.

Thanksgiving was David’s favorite holiday. 

I miss his laughter, the way he’d always get seconds on pineapple stuffing, and how he’d quietly leave the room if there was conflict because it hurt him so deeply.

If you have an empty seat at your table this year, you’re not alone.

Maybe it’s someone you lost, someone you miss, or a version of yourself you’re still finding your way back to.

Holidays have a way of turning up the volume on heartache. But they can also shine a spotlight on gratitude.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how gratitude isn’t about forcing ourselves to feel better — it’s about noticing what moves us, what makes us who we are, and what reminds us that we’re alive and here for a reason.

Here’s one of my favorite practices for this time of year (and throughout the year, if I’m being honest):

1. Identify what elicits deep, moving emotion for you.
Think goosebumps, tears, heart growing, breath catching in your throat.

2. Be present with the experience.
Slow down enough to feel it.
Engage your senses — what do you see, hear, smell, or physically feel?

3. Carry a reminder with you.
A phrase, an image, a song, a note in your pocket — something you can return to anytime your day gets loud or heavy.
Let it bring you back to what matters.

Coaching isn’t supposed to be fun.


There are coaches who believe that.

They see coaching as set of rules and boxes to check.

(BTW no client wants to feel like a checklist)

I was mentoring a coach who was ready to give up because she felt so limited. 

Coaching wasn’t fun because she wasn’t letting fun in.

I’ll never forget her saying “I didn’t know I was allowed to do that!?”

Something is off if coaching doesn’t feel fun.
