💥 2 weeks ago, I came across a post by John Aspinall ✱ that perfectly captured something I've been saying for years: 

Some guidelines can't stand up against shopper clarity.

John pointed out Amazon Basics in his post, and guess what was in their main image?
Packaging.
The same rule sellers are told never to break.

We've known this for a while. That's why when conversations go:
"𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘖𝘚.", "𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨."
I always say—you've got a choice to make.

Yes, it's against the guidelines.
But seeing Amazon do exactly what they warned sellers to avoid should make the choice easier.
Either you follow every guideline and hope your compliant image stands out in a sea of rule-breakers...
Or you design for what actually converts—giving shoppers the clarity they need to click BUY.

That's the reality I see every day working with sellers. The ones who win aren't waiting for permission.

🚨 The hardest part of Amazon optimization isn’t finding better keywords.
There are plenty of tools that can help with that.

The real challenge is knowing what 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.

👉🏽 What do you include in the image stack?
👉🏽 What do you leave out?

Too much information and shoppers bounce.
Too little and they still bounce.
Only clean product shots? They scroll right past you.

The mistake I see most brands make is trying to cram every feature into every image—because everything feels important.

What actually converts is 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.

A strong listing usually gets three things right:

1️⃣ Clear information: Tell shoppers exactly what they’re getting, fast.

2️⃣ Visualized features: Show benefits visually instead of explaining them with paragraphs. Images win on Amazon.

3️⃣ Lifestyle context: Show the feeling, the use case, or the version of the customer on the other side of the purchase.

Most brands stop at the first two. Those speak to logic.
The third one is what creates desire.

Your product either solves a problem—or helps shoppers see themselves differently. Your product images should communicate both.

🚨 The easiest way to lose an Amazon shopper isn't with bad reviews.
It's with confusion.

The biggest mistake I see better-for-you snack brands make is assuming shoppers already understand what makes their product different.
They don’t.

👉🏽 They see "sugar" on the label and assume it's added. 
👉🏽 They expect it to be hard, chewy, or sticky like every other bar. 
👉🏽 They don’t immediately see why this bar costs more than the one right below it.

So they bounce.

Not because the product isn’t good, but because the listing didn’t answer the question fast enough.
And on Amazon, you have seconds to show them why clearly.
That’s what actually converts. clarity.

That’s why in this category, a strong listing usually gets three things right:

1️⃣ Answer the objection before they ask it: "All sugar comes from dates—nothing added" needs to be front and center, not buried in the description. Think through the questions they have and front load it.

2️⃣ Set texture expectations visually: Show the soft, non-sticky bite. Don't make them guess if it'll stick to their teeth like every other date bar.

3️⃣ Make the value obvious: Help them see why 6 clean ingredients and sustained energy is worth more than a cheaper bar filled with junk.

Don’t just focus on what the product is. (Look at the before closely, you’ll see what I mean)
The best ones focus on what shoppers think it is, and correct that story fast.

If your snack bar doesn’t answer doubts in the first few seconds, shoppers don’t wait around. They scroll to the one that does. Let your product image do the work for you.

🚨 A lot of brands on Amazon assume hesitation comes from price.
Or competition, or even lack of information.

But more often, it comes from something subtler:
👉🏽 the customer doesn’t feel like the product was made with them in mind.

We saw this play out during an A+ refresh for a premium liver supplement.
The quality was exceptional. The information was accurate.
The visuals “chef’s kiss”

And yet, the content still created distance.

As we worked through each round, the real issue became clear:
the A+ was centered on the product proving itself,
instead of helping the customer see where they fit into it.

That changes everything.

When the customer isn’t reflected in the visuals or the messaging:
⤷ price feels harder to justify
⤷ simplicity feels confusing instead of reassuring
⤷ premium starts to feel exclusive instead of intentional

The fix wasn’t louder claims or more ingredients.

It was repositioning the product through the lens of the customer’s life, not on a pedestal above it.
That's when the doubts disappear, the price tag doesn't sting anymore, and your listing finally earns its keep.

In fact, less usually performs better.

I see wellness brands cramming listings with 8+ images, hoping quantity will build trust. It doesn’t.

You don’t need more images. You need images that answer the questions stopping someone from clicking 𝘈𝘥𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘵.

Each image should be a "show + tell" moment—answering a specific question, overcoming a specific objection, or highlighting a specific benefit that makes the shopper think:
👉🏽  "𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. 𝘐 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘮𝘦."

What it looks like in practice:
⤷ Image 1 — Proof it works: 90% improved clarity, 60% reduction in squiggly lines. Clinical backing removes doubt.
⤷ Image 2 — What it solves: Targets eye floaters, dry eyes, digital strain, blue light. Shows shoppers this is for them.
⤷ Image 3 — Instant credibility: 9 research-backed nutrients. Shows what's inside—no guessing about ingredients or allergens.
⤷ Image 4 — Promise + ease of use: "Easy-to-Swallow / Easy-to-Break & Mix." Removes friction before they even read the title.
⤷ Image 5 — Why us vs. typical: Comparison chart highlights AREDS 2, digestive enzymes, clean label, refill pouch. Differentiates at a glance.
⤷ Image 6 — Reassurance: Refill pouch = sustainability + cost savings. Signals quality without saying "trust us."
⤷ Close the loop: What’s the #1 doubt Image 7 should remove before “𝘈𝘥𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘵”? Tell me below.

If an image isn't doing one of these jobs? Cut it.

Your listing isn't a photo gallery—it's doing the selling for you. Every visual should move someone closer to buying, not just take up space.

🐾 Pet-Friendly, Click-Worthy Main Images

💢 I saw a post recently where someone generated A+ content in two minutes with AI.

Was it pretty? Yes. 
Would I use it? Absolutely not.

AI can create beautiful content for anyone. That’s not the problem
The problem is we’ve forgotten who we’re creating for: people.
Real human beings.
That’s why everyone is complaining about “AI slop.”

And to be clear, I use AI. I’m not anti-AI.
But pushing AI-generated content live without human judgment, without thinking about the person on the other side of the screen, is lazy. 

Whether you’re selling a product or a service, there’s still a human making a choice.
Unless AI is the one buying your product, our job is to create for the end user.
Not just to keep up or ship something.

I generated this stack of main images with AI too.
And the second you look at them, as a consumer and a creator, you know they don’t work.
But they do give me a starting point. A base I can shape into something that actually speaks to the people I’m trying to reach.

Every time I see content pushed out just because it’s fast, I think about a line from Ann Handley’s Everybody Writes:
“It’s a privilege to put stuff out.”
It still is.
So treat it like one.

Which brings us to the obvious answer: 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀.

MAX’IS Creation already knew where shoppers were hesitating.
They had all the raw material to convert:
✨ A real founder story (Max’s journey)
✨ Clear quality cues (hand-painted, gift-ready)
✨ Strong positioning (multiple sports, dual-use)
✨ Obvious benefits (fun, connection, versatility)

But the listing still wasn’t doing the work.

The information was there, but it didn’t land. Shoppers couldn’t 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 why this mug was different.
The fix wasn’t more features.
It was structure.

Here’s what changed:
👉🏽 Lead with the emotional payoff (fun, unexpected moments)
👉🏽 Call out the hesitation upfront (yes, it’s premium, here’s why)
👉🏽 Remove confusion (size, use cases, versatility)
👉🏽 Close with differentiation (handcrafted, gift-ready, founder-led)

Those images went from looking like another handcrafted mug to clearly answering, “𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦?” That’s the job.

So open your listing and pretend you’ve never seen your product before.
What questions come up? Where do you hesitate? What’s missing?

Now check your FAQs and reviews.

💢 On Amazon, packaging is only half the picture.
The first job of your main image: 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲.

A closed jar makes people guess.
An open view—scoop in frame, pieces visible, texture clear—lets them feel it through the screen.

Think pets for a second: if I’m buying dog supplements, I can’t open the container.

My brain is asking: 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘥𝘦𝘳, 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘸, 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬, 𝘱𝘪𝘭𝘭? 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵 𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘺? 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘨 𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴?

A main image that answers those questions upfront lowers hesitation instantly.

When you reveal the product (not just the package), two things happen:

⬇️ 𝗙𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀—shoppers know what they’re getting.
⬆️ 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁—your secondary images get a fair shot to persuade.

One image makes them guess.
The other makes it obvious.

⛔ On Amazon, some categories can get away with clean product shots and ingredient lists.
Health supplements can't.

When something enters your body, you need more than clinical credibility - you need to believe it'll actually work.
That was Haro Health's challenge.

Round 1 looked professional. Clean blue. Science-backed badges.
But when I looked at it, my brain went: "Okay, it's an eye supplement." Then nothing.
No belief. No reason to trust this over a dozen others making the same claims.

What changed:
→ Real person using it (not a floating bottle) - now I can see it in my routine → Outcome-driven headline - I know what I'm getting in 3 seconds
→ Timeline showing when results happen - removes the doubt → Daily ritual framing - makes it feel doable, not clinical → Trust signals early - belief before the scroll

The shift wasn't aesthetic. It was: "𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴?"
If all I see is a bottle with badges, I'll keep scrolling.

In health, sterile doesn't sell. Context does, with lots of objection handling, because your ideal shoppers have lots of reasons NOT to buy from you.

Kids’ brands are one of the hardest categories to win on Amazon.

Why?

Because 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿—𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝘄𝗼:

Parents have learned to shop through their kid’s eyes.

So while they’re scanning search results asking:
⤷ Is this safe?
⤷ Is this mess-free?
⤷ Is this worth the price?

They’re also asking:
⤷ Will my kid actually love this?

That’s where a lot of kids’ brands break down.

Some listings go all-in on fun and forget to reassure the parent.
Others play it so safe that the product feels boring or unclear.

On Amazon, you don’t get time to explain.

The goal of the main image is to erase doubt:
✨ Show exactly what’s in the box
✨ Make the experience feel organized, intentional, and premium
✨ Use the packaging itself as a trust signal

That’s what you’re seeing in these before/after examples.

The goal is to make things look better, for sure, but also to make the product immediately understandable.

That’s the difference between: “𝘐’𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴…” and “𝘖𝘩. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦.”

You’re not changing the product.
 You’re changing the way it’s seen.

And that’s what allows the price, the quality, and the brand to land.

“Won’t Amazon cannibalize our DTC sales?”

Asked a founder doing doing serious revenue in Canada and planning a US launch.

I get this question all the time.

Adding Amazon does 3 things:

1. Yes, it cannibalizes DTC.

But not by a lot.

Some customers who were buying on DTC will now buy on Amazon.

That's simply a better experience for them.

2. It makes the PIE bigger.

You are now visible to millions of high-intent shoppers who:
- Start their search on Amazon
- Buy for the same-day shipping
- Would never have found your DTC site organically

And are net new!

3. Captures your Ad Spend.

Your META/Google/Social spend is driving traffic to Amazon.

Even if you're linking to DTC.

If you're not on Amazon, you are wasting ad money.

Most Amazon brands are trapped by their own success.

One of our clients was doing $2M annually on Amazon, but

They had zero control over their listings.

Resellers were running their entire Amazon channel. 

When they wanted to update product images or descriptions, 

they had to go through middlemen.

Last year the dates were March 25-31, 2025. 

No confirmation on these dates from Amazon yet, but I'd ballpark the same period.

2. Create your advertising plan to tap into the additional traffic.
3. Post your results to LinkedIn so everyone knows you rock!

When does TikTok impact Amazon sales?

This came up on a recent call with a DTC brand running Amazon and TikTok.

His question was the right one:

“At what point do TikTok views actually create a measurable lift on Amazon?”

Here's what we see:

TikTok videos doing less than ~10k views, you’re not going to clearly see it in Amazon sales.

The halo effect becomes obvious closer to ~50k views per video.

Below that there may be impact, but it's hard to measure.

Above that Amazon sales spikes become visible

and incremental demand shows up above baseline sales

TikTok is NOT a direct-response channel

but it excels at demand creation

that gets captured on Amazon.

Measuring TikTok like Meta/Amazon leads to bad decisions.

Instead track the halo effect (TikTok views vs. Amazon sales deltas)

and evaluate against customer lifetime value, not first purchase.

That mindset change is where TikTok & Amazon starts to work!

You probably have a "creative volume" problem on Tik Tok.

That's costing you millions in sales.

You have affiliates posting content. 

You are seeing some sales. 

But you're missing the systematic approach that skyrockets sales.

Here's what I see happening:
- Brands spend 40+ hours/month managing creators manually
- No creator community building (Discord, WhatsApp groups)
- Spray and pray influencer seeding
- Ad authorization not enabled on creator videos

“TikTok isn’t profitable for us.”
That might mean it’s working. Here's why👇

On a call this week, an e-comm director said something I hear often:

“We don’t know if TikTok is a sales channel for us.

But every time we turn it off, Amazon sales drop.”

That’s the part most people miss.

They’re judging TikTok only by last-click ROAS, 

when TikTok’s real value often shows up on another channel.

Here’s what I see with our clients:

TikTok video view spikes lead to Amazon branded search increases

In other words:

TikTok is doing the top-of-funnel work Amazon doesn't do well.

This is especially true for:
- Gen Z demographic (no cap!)
- Visual products
- High LTV products

If your LTV is high enough, then TikTok doesn’t need to be profitable from a last-click buy standpoint.

It needs to:
1. Put you in front of new customers
2. Sell the dream
3. Let Amazon close the sale

If you evaluate TikTok purely as a standalone P&L, you won't invest.

If you evaluate it as a demand engine, the math changes fast.

The question isn’t: “Is TikTok profitable?”

It’s: “What happens everywhere else when TikTok is ON vs. OFF?”

That’s the metric that actually matters.

"We tried TikTok Shop and it didn't work."

Heard this phrase 5x this week.

What they did:

→ Seeded 20 random creators
→ Waited 30 days for results
→ No creator community building
→ Zero systematic follow-up
→ Missing GMV Max ad links
→ Or not even running GMV Max
→ Measured success only by Tik Tok Shop GMV

This isn't enough.

It's ok. I've been there too.

Here is what top brands like Glamnetic do differently:

✅ Build Discord communities with weekly contests

There are 3.5M creators on TikTok Shop in the US.

But less than 1.5% actually drive $1,000+ in GMV a month.

That’s about 50,000 creators who move the needle.

The rest? They’re burning your samples.

We see this every week at AmpliSell.

Brands come to us after sending out a couple hundred products.

They get a handful of posts. Almost no sales.

The problem isn’t TikTok.

It’s creator scarcity.

The real game is finding and keeping the A-players.

The best brands treat top creators like partners instead of affiliaties.

4. Upgrade your best. Turn your top 1% into partners. Give them early access, higher commissions, or even retainer deals.

Here's why this metric (NCPM) matters:

Revenue follows content volume. Always.

When a brand's TikTok Shop sales drop, we can trace it back to fewer creator videos going live. 

But here's the key:

It's not about total creators. It's about ACTIVE creators.

Having 1,000 creators in your database means nothing if only 50 are posting monthly.

The brands doing six-figure months? 

They have 100+ creators posting 10+ videos each per month.

That's 1,000 pieces of content monthly. Every month.

Your TikTok Shop isn't a product problem. 

It's a content production problem.

And content production is a relationship problem.

Build the community and incentivize them.
