Here's how to fuck up your storytelling


Every Instagram post or LinkedIn story you see going viral
follows the same basic structure:

1) Hook ( 5 seconds)
2) Context ( 10 seconds)
3) Conflict (10 seconds)
4) Turning point (15 seconds)
5) Resolution (10 seconds)

And yet…
most people still wonder why nobody reads their content.

The easiest way to ruin your post is not by telling 
one of these 3 things in your hook:

1) Timeframe:
Example -> 3 years ago; Every 2 weeks; For 97 days

2) Transformation:
Example -> This is Yash at 78 kgs and this is him at 68 kgs without going to gym. 

3) Open loop:
Example -> This is how I did X even though I was stuck in Y
(This creates curiosity and people start looking for answers without you actually saying "Watch/Read till the end")

Because people don’t skip content
they skip boring beginnings.
Tell them when,
tell them what changed,
or tell them what problem you cracked.

That’s how storytelling actually works.

3 biggest SECRETS about storytelling 
no one on the internet tells you

SECRET #1: Relatability is NOT about being “real”
Everyone says: “Be relatable.”
Useless advice.

Stories become relatable only when they trigger ONE of these 4 emotions:
Funny – makes people smile or laugh
Sad – makes them feel pain, loss, or struggle
Dreamy – makes them imagine a better future
Nostalgic – takes them back in time

If your story doesn’t fall into at least one,
people scroll.

SECRET #2: Details decide whether people believe you

Vague stories = forgettable stories.
Specifics = credibility.

Don’t say:
“I woke up early and felt motivated.”

Say:
What time did you wake up?
How did you feel when you opened your eyes?
What did you do right after?
What colour was the mug?
How did you feel after the first sip of coffee?

Details make stories visual.
Visual stories stick.

SECRET #3: Tonality controls emotion
Your words matter.
Your voice matters more.

When you’re excited → take your voice UP
When something is serious or important → take your voice DOWN

Flat tone = flat story.
No exceptions.

That’s it.

6 days ago, I asked 5 people to tell me ONE story about their own life 
and 

They all panicked.

And if I asked you the same question right now,
your first thought would probably be:
“Shit… I don’t have any.”

But that’s not true.
It’s not that you don’t have stories.
It’s that you’ve never documented them.

To become a great storyteller,
you must first become a great collector of stories.

From now on, whenever something emotionally moves you -
good or bad,
take out your phone and open the Notes app.

Create a note called “STORY BANK.”

And capture the story in detail:
What happened
When it happened
Who was involved
Where it took place
The exact dialogue
The underlying themes
And the point of the story

These are the core elements of powerful storytelling.
Not talent.
Not confidence.
Attention and documentation.

2019: I was scared nobody would ever choose me.


2026: I’ve built something that chooses others.

Back in 2019, I graduated as a chemical engineer from Thapar University with a GPA of 8.2.
I got a campus placement at Reliance Petrochemicals and worked there for 4 years as a Sales Officer, Executive Assistant, and Pricing Analyst.

On paper, I was doing everything right.

But internally?
I could never imagine myself as the girl who did it.
The self-made one.
The successful one.
I dreamed of it…
but I was terrified of becoming it.


I come from a business family.
I’ve seen rags to riches up close.
So I knew money was possible.

What scared me wasn’t failure.
What scared me was losing my safety net.

I kept thinking:
“What if I earn nothing?”
“What if I have to ask my husband for money?”
“What if I take this risk and regret it forever?”

So instead of jumping,
I overthought for years.

Until one day, while being absolutely shit-scared,
I finally quit.
And I started building.

For the next 8 months,
I worked every single day.
And earned…
zero.
My bank balance, never below ₹50,000 before
dropped to ₹1,200 in June 2022.

I slept on my sofa.
Woke up there.
Worked nonstop.
I almost gave up.

I even looked for local jobs.
The only thing I found was a receptionist role.
And I was ready to take it
on top of whatever I was trying to build.

I was sleeping 3 hours a day.
Sacrificing everything I loved.
But I never stopped believing
this phase was not the end of my story.

Fast-forward to today.
At the start of 2026, I can finally say this out loud.

I have:
10×ed my Reliance salary
Built a team and created employment
Become an inspiration to 50,000+ people
Helped nearly 100 aspiring entrepreneurs
Become the face of my brand

And the moment that still makes me emotional?
I can finally say:
“Maa, Papa, thank you for trusting me.”

But here’s the real win.
The girl who was scared to try…
is now building opportunities for others.

That same girl is now:
paying salaries
supporting people
making tough calls
showing up even on bad days
That still feels surreal.

To my younger self:
 You did it.
And no, this isn’t the end.
Picture abhi baaki hai, mere dost ❤️

My JEE rank was 3,85,973.


If I stop here,
your brain immediately fills in the blanks.
“She must’ve gone to a bad college.”

That’s not judgment.
That’s biology.

The human brain is a prediction machine.

It constantly tries to guess the ending based on past patterns.

Now watch what happens when I say this instead:
My JEE rank was 3,85,973… but I got into IIT.

Your brain pauses.
Because I just created incongruency.

I broke the pattern you were expecting 
and when patterns break, attention spikes.

This isn’t just storytelling.
This is the fundamental anatomy of attention.

It’s the same reason jokes work.

Example:
“My grandfather had the heart of a lion…
and that’s why he’s not allowed in a zoo anymore.”

Your brain expected bravery.
It got crime.

That gap between expectation and reality?
That’s where attention lives.

The Anatomy of Attention (and all great content)
Every high-performing story follows this structure:
1️⃣ Establish Expectation (X)
Set up something familiar.
A number. A stereotype. A common belief.

2️⃣ Interrupt the Pattern
Introduce something that doesn’t fit.

3️⃣ Deliver the Unexpected (Y)
Resolve the tension with surprise, logic, or humour.

Coming back to my story:
My JEE rank was 3,85,973…
but I got into IIT — not by contacting the PM —
but because I took a gap year.

Expectation → broken.
Attention → captured.
Message → remembered.

This is why vague content fails.
And why predictable content gets ignored.

If your storytelling doesn’t break a pattern,
it doesn’t deserve attention.
Master incongruency 
and you’ll never have to beg people to listen again.

The most fucked-up advice I gave in 2024 was:


“Going viral doesn’t help you make money.”

Yeah.
I said that.
And I was wrong.

Because one principle I learned later helped me reach 10 million people and generate $74K in revenue without running ads.

It’s called the Generalist Principle.

Let me explain with an example.
There’s a finance creator named Graham Stephan.
He teaches money and investing to millennials.

Now guess what his most-viewed video is.
Not:
“5 finance principles I learned while leasing a Tesla.”

But:
“How I bought a Tesla for $78 a month.”

That’s a hook the general public cares about.

Everyone thinks:
“Wait… WHAT?? How is that even possible?”

But when you actually watch the video,
he’s teaching:
financing
interest rates
long-term cost analysis

Real finance.

If he had titled it like a finance lecture,
that video would’ve died at 10,000 views —
not crossed 9 million.

Here’s the real lesson:
You let the average viewer enter through curiosity…
and your real audience stays for the substance.

Virality isn’t the enemy of monetisation.
Irrelevant virality is.

And because most creators still mess this up,
either going too niche or too shallow,

That’s what Ronak, a 35-year-old leadership communication coach,

I’ll walk you through my step-by-step process.

I wrote 12 content scripts for a business owner… 
and a month later, he hasn’t shot even ONE.


A friend of mine recently started a new franchise.
Before this, he was running an immigration business.

For 2 straight years, I kept telling him one thing:
👉 You’re leaving a shit tonne of money on the table because you have ZERO online presence.

Every single time, he had an excuse ready:
“Yaar I’m not good with camera”
“I don’t know how to write”
“I don’t have time”
“I’m not finding the right people”
“I don’t have the budget”
“I don’t look good”
Basically, fear, packaged as logic.

Last time I told him,
“Enough. It’s high time you build a personal brand.”
He asked for help.
I got on 1:1 calls with him.
Explained everything step-by-step.

Next call?
 “Tu hi krde script, business toh tujhe samajh aa hi gaya hai.”
I didn’t script for him for 3–4 months.
 Then he started blaming me:
 “You’re not helping at all.”

So one day, I took an entire day off
and wrote 12 scripts for him.

That was one month ago.
He still hasn’t shot even one video.

Why am I telling you this? 

Because, If your fear > your business,
you will NEVER reach the top 1%.

Words won’t take you anywhere.
Advice won’t take you anywhere.
Motivation won’t take you anywhere.
Only action will.

And not random action-
process-oriented action.

Nobody is born knowing:
what to say
how to look
what their tone is
what visuals work

You find that ONLY by:
 👉 learning
 👉 implementing
 👉 trying
 👉 posting
 👉 failing
 👉 repeating

Even 1 hour a day is enough
if you actually do the work.

You don’t build a personal brand by:
complaining
overthinking
waiting to feel “ready”

You build it by showing up
even when you’re scared.
Especially when you’re scared.

Embarrassment is a myth.


Let me give you a scenario to visualise:
I’m sitting in a bus,
drinking an iced latte.
Something happens.
The cup slips.
The coffee spills on the floor.
Now everyone is looking at me.

A few people are giggling.


What can I realistically do in this situation?

Can I lick the floor?
 No, I can’t.

Can I pick up the cup?
 Yes.

Can I throw it in the dustbin when I see one?
 Yes.

And then…
 can I move on with my life?
Also yes.

That’s it.

 That’s the entire situation.
Everything else happening in your head is made up.

If someone is laughing, you can change your perspective and think:
“At least I made somebody laugh today.”
Or maybe someone in that bus likes the smell of coffee.

Here’s the real problem:
Our entire lives are run by assumptions we make about other people.
“They’re judging me.”
“They’ll remember this.”
“They think I’m stupid.”
So why not make a better assumption?

Even if you think someone hates you,
assume they don’t.
Assume they’re just having a bad day.

Nobody is storing your embarrassing moments in their memory.
They’re too busy replaying their own embarrassing moments.
And that’s your biggest advantage.

So do what you want.
Say what you want.
Post the content.
Take the risk.

Because embarrassment only exists
if you keep revisiting it.

Fuck embarrassment.
Everyone is far too self-centred
to remember yours anyway.

If I had zero followers,
and had to start from Day 1 again,

this is the exact process I’d follow to grow through storytelling

Step 1: Write a mantra

One single sentence every post/ video points back to.
So no matter what story I tell,
it’s always reinforcing the same core message.
That’s how people start remembering you.

Step 2: Study before you post
I’d follow creators who are insanely good at storytelling.
Not to copy,
but to understand:
how they open
how they build tension
how they close
And I’d take notes. Literally.

Step 3: Learn what makes a good script
Storytelling is not talent.
It’s a skill.
If you want to save time and energy,
learn the frameworks instead of guessing.

Step 4: Improve in the RIGHT order
This is where most people mess up.
I’d focus on ONE thing at a time,
in this exact order:
1️⃣ Writing down my raw stories 
2️⃣ Giving it a structure 
3️⃣ Planning visuals accordingly.  

Not all at once. Bit by bit.
That’s it.
No hacks.
No shortcuts.
Just systems.
At least…
that’s exactly what I’d do.

Earlier, we had phones.
Now, phones have us.

We’re living in a hyper-connected world,
which means earning attention has become insanely difficult.

Earlier, views were the goal.
Create content. Run ads. Get eyeballs.

But today, views mean almost nothing.
People watch.
They forget.

The real bullseye now is SHARES.
Why?
Because shares are one-to-many distribution,
powered not by algorithms,
but by your audience.

So the real question is:
What actually triggers people to SHARE content?

There are 6 content themes that consistently prompt sharing.
Think of them as cognitive shortcuts to identity-building.

1️⃣ Topical Content
Join conversations people are already emotionally invested in.

Example: A hot take on USA attack on Venezuela 

2️⃣ Hyper-Positive Content
Content that feels like a break from the mundane.
Hope. Wins. Progress. Relief.
People share this because it makes them feel good 
and makes them look positive by association.

3️⃣ Nostalgia
Content that taps into a universally shared memory.
School days. Old ads. Childhood routines.
Nostalgia bypasses logic and goes straight to emotion 
which is why it spreads so easily.

4️⃣ Extreme Opinions
People love creators with a spine.
Strong opinions create:
-> a tribe
-> and an anti-tribe
Both drive engagement.
Both drive sharing.
Neutral content rarely moves people.

5️⃣ Identity-Based Content
Content that reinforces a chosen identity.
Example:
 “10 things only engineers will understand.”
When someone shares this, they’re saying:
 “This is who I am.”

6️⃣ Relatability
Content that mirrors a shared emotion or experience.
Example:
 “For everyone who’s ever had a flatmate.”
People share relatability because it feels seen.

This is how identity gets built.
And identity is the foundation of a personal brand.
Not by chasing views.
But by creating content people want to attach their name to.

I’m currently reading Tuesdays with Morrie,
and I’m genuinely in awe of how it’s written.


Not because it’s dramatic.
Not because it’s fancy.
But because I can see everything.

Every line is so deeply specific that your brain does the visual work for you.

There are:
no visuals
no bold fonts

Just a quiet, heavy story told with extreme attention to detail.
The character building is so strong that you don’t read Morrie,
 you meet him.

Take this paragraph:
“I find Morrie Schwartz, my favourite professor, and introduce him to my parents. He is a small man who takes small steps, as if a strong wind could at any time whisk him up into the clouds. In his graduation robe, he looks like a cross between a biblical prophet and a Christmas elf. He has sparkling blue-green eyes, thinning silver hair that spills onto his forehead, big ears, a triangular nose, and tufts of graying eyebrows. Although his teeth are crooked and his lower ones are slanted back as if someone had punched them in, when he smiles it’s as if you’d just told him the first joke on earth.”

That’s it.

Just specifics.
And because of that, I could visualise Morrie so clearly it felt cinematic.

This book is proof of something every storyteller should remember:
👉 Depth beats decoration.
 👉 Specifics beat aesthetics.

There’s a high chance you’ll finish it in one day 
and an even higher chance it’ll quietly change how you write stories forever.

If I had to rebuild my LinkedIn in 2026 from scratch


Here’s exactly what I would do:

(Save + Repost this before anything else ♻️)

First things first...

Make a decision. LinkedIn requires time and effort so if you are not willing to give any one of them, don’t read this post.

How many times should you post?
In the beginning, go all in – post 6–7 times a week. 

Use this phase to experiment and observe:
What’s getting engagement?
What are people enjoying?
What are you enjoying?
Once patterns emerge, bring it down to 3–4 solid posts a week.

Important content mix to follow:
✅ 60% value-packed posts → builds credibility
✅ 30% personal stories → builds trust
✅ 10% fun/viral stuff → expands reach

And bhai, only post when you actually have something meaningful to say. 
Don’t force it.

Instead of posting daily, comment daily.
Create 4 lists of profiles for daily commenting:

a. Your ICPs → Ideal Client Personas
b. Industry Peers → leverage competitors' views
c. Bigger creators → leverage their views
d. Same level creators → others in your follower range

The quality of your comments matters the most.

Be early, be thoughtful, be genuine.
Aim for 40–50 meaningful comments a day – not "great post bro" spam. 
Quality over quantity.

Before you do the above, optimize your profile

More profile views won't mean anything if people are not clear on 
what to do on your profile.

Make an offer every single day
When I say "make an offer", I mean "send DMs" to warm prospects. 

Oh, the free account here is limiting.
Get LinkedIn Premium → It's worth it.

Send DMs to your favourite commenters.
Send DMs to ICPs within your commenters.
Send DMs to ICPs from the "reactions" list too.
Send DMs to your Profile Viewers (primarily ICPs).

Things to remember:
a. Never pitch in your first DM (no pitchslapping)
b. Personalized voice / video notes work super well
c. Personalized guide / loom videos work even better
d. Use Linkbound to find leads inside your interactions

The goal of each DM? 
To book calls. Nothing more.

Bonus tips :
- Stop tagging big creators to get reach – looks needy
- Impressions mean nothing if nobody checks your profile
- Unfollow 5–10 irrelevant folks daily
- Comment only where your audience is hanging out
- Your comment = mini-post. Treat it that way
- Follow people in the regions you want to sell in
- Lift others up, without expecting anything back

It was a random Monday.


I’m a woman entrepreneur.
Married.
And I woke up already anxious, because Mondays are when the maximum sales calls get booked.

I skipped breakfast.
Just coffee.

While driving to my office, where I knew I’d sit alone all day,
I kept rehearsing every line in my head.
What I’d say.
How I’d say it.

had a condition.

She had the permission to run a business.
But not the permission to show her face.

That one word stayed with me the entire day.

Why does a 35-year-old, grown adult
need someone else’s approval
to show her own face?

Why do people still believe
they have the right
to permit or restrict
another person’s life?

I sat there, exhausted, frustrated, heart heavy-
wondering how we build a world
where women don’t need
"permission"
to simply be seen.

Have you ever tried making popcorn in an oven?


You put the kernels inside.
For a while, nothing happens.

Then suddenly: 
the smell changes,
the sound starts,
and in seconds… they pop.

That one moment when everything transforms?
I call it the Oven Moment.

This single principle sits at the heart of every successful video or post.

Great content always follows this arc:
The Promise
→ Something interesting is about to happen.

The Build-up
→ The process unfolds. Tension increases.

The Oven Moment
→ The payoff lands. The pop happens.

No oven moment?
No memory.
No shares.

People don’t stay for information.
They stay for the pop.

If your content doesn’t build toward a moment of release,
it’s just kernels sitting in heat.

And I say this because I genuinely love this platform,
so fine, let me explain it properly.

You’ve probably seen the viral storytime by Rebel Kid with 10M+ views.

It starts with:
“Guys, I get paid to dance in clubs… and this stranger wanted to gift me something.”
That is A -Attention.
Pattern break. Scroll stopped.

Then she says:
“I don’t usually take PR packages… but this guy wanted to give me a diamond ring.”
That’s I - Interest.
 
Now you’re listening.
Next twist:
The guy wants the ring back.
Turns out it’s fake.
 And she’s already posted a million stories about it.
That creates D- Desire.

You want answers.
You want context.
You want to stalk her page and find the rest of the story.

So you go to her profile.
What do you see?
Millions of followers
Crazy engagement
Social proof everywhere
And naturally, you follow, like, maybe even share.
That’s A - Action.
That’s AIDA in real life.
 
If you still think storytelling is about “writing well”,

“What if the people following me… never pay?”


This is 1 of the 4 major tensions founders face when using content to grow

Tension 1: Reach vs Revenue
"What if the audience that are following are actually audiences that won't pay?"

This is the most common trap:
irrelevant reach.

People who:
- enjoy your content
- share it
- engage with it
…but will never buy from you.

Views are the most superficial metric in the game.

Quick check:
 Do you remember the last YouTube ad you watched end-to-end?

Exactly.

Tension 2: Authenticity vs The Ask

If you put the brand front and centre,
people switch off - they know you’re selling.

If you hide the brand too much,
the impression has no commercial value.

Audiences today are smarter.

The expectation is NOT:
“Don’t sell to me.”

The expectation is:
“Sell to me with value and respect my attention.”

This tension isn’t solved by silence,
it’s solved by contextual selling.

Tension 3: Founder vs Brand

The strongest trust-builder is still the founder.

Who builds trust better than the person saying:
“I’m putting my neck on the line.”

That’s the power of founder-led brands.

But there’s risk.
When the brand becomes inseparable from the founder’s reputation,
any fall becomes existential.
(Think Vijay Mallya and Kingfisher Airlines.)

There’s also the departure problem:
If the brand’s face is an employee,
they will eventually leave.

Founder-led branding works only if:
the founder’s personality aligns with the brand
and they’re in it for the long haul

Otherwise, it’s a ticking risk.

Tension 4: Creator vs Builder
In the West, creators have built billion-dollar brands.
In India, despite massive reach, similar outcomes are rare.
Why?

1️⃣ Credibility gap
 Creators are still not trusted with money, business, or “serious” outcomes.

2️⃣ Skill gap
 Reach is overestimated.
 Operations, logistics, and execution are underestimated.

3️⃣ Partnership gap
 Western successes involved elite operators and ecosystems
 (think creator + enterprise-grade execution).
That ecosystem is still early in India.

Content is not a growth hack.
It’s a strategic lever.
But only founders who understand these tensions
and design around them,
turn content into real, durable businesses.

We all remember this 90s jingle from Nirma.
It worked.
Because back then, attention was captive.

That form of marketing is dead now.

Today, most startups are trying to sell to the top 10–15 million households in India.
And there’s one thing all of them have in common:
THEY ARE AD-BLOCKED!

Hotstar? Premium.
YouTube? Premium.
Instagram? Thumb-scroll speed of light.

So how do you reach them?
You don’t.
They come to you.

This is why content is no longer a “nice to have.”
It’s the only way to scale the wall that the most valuable consumer segment has built.

If Ads interrupt,
then Content invites.

If Ads shout,
then Content earns attention.

If you’re still relying only on:
jingles
banners
paid reach
you’re already late.
Because in today’s world,
attention is permission-based.
And content is the price of entry.
