Dawn Bloomer is a Vice President of M&A in the Western Region for Generational. She brings a unique combination of entrepreneurial leadership and transaction experience to her role, having bought into her veterinary practice early in her career before growing it and eventually leading its merger into a national acquisitions group. She continued on to support that group’s buy-side M&A efforts, helping expand its footprint until it was ultimately acquired by a large, private equity-backed aggregator. 

After navigating those transactions from the owner and operator seat, Dawn transitioned into advisory, where she helps other business owners prepare for and successfully navigate the sale of their companies. Having worked on both sides of the table, she brings practical insight and empathy to every engagement—understanding firsthand what business owners face and what buyers want. Known for her clear communication and collaborative style, she serves as a trusted partner to clients and their advisors throughout the deal lifecycle.

I’ve been to the ISA chili cook-off for years — usually as an exhibitor. Booth. Banner. Handshakes. Doing my part.

This time, I showed up at the Cajun cook-off as a guest. Mardi Gras theme. Music, beads, crawfish. I thought I was there to unwind.

Then Amanda grabbed me at the door. “Hey. You want to be a judge?”

Five minutes later, I’m in the judges’ room staring at 22 plates and 15 desserts like it’s a full-on engineering stress test for my stomach. They handed us score sheets, a steady flow of beer, and Tums. That’s when I knew this wasn’t amateur hour.

Here’s what stayed with me.

From the outside, you see trophies, laughs, and a fun party. Behind the scenes, you see the effort. The pride. The quiet competitiveness. You see people who spent hours perfecting a roux like it’s a control loop that has to be exact.

Most people only see the finished dish in your career. They don’t see the drafts. The failed tries. The nights you stayed up adjusting the recipe. They just see the trophy and assume it came easily.

It was fun — and a little painful — to taste everything. But seeing the behind-the-scenes? That was the real prize.

Sometimes the biggest change happens when you step out of your usual role. Exhibitor to judge. Player to watcher. You start noticing how much effort sits behind every win.

Respect the effort. That’s where the real story is.

The energy at the Bakken post-party event at NAPE was infectious.

Michelle came with me so I could show off my Superman shirt and talk with people about the Career Superpower program. Nothing like wearing a superhero logo in a room full of executives to spark a few conversations.

In the middle of it all, we met a woman from ENEOS visiting from Tokyo. We did a quick, on-the-spot session to help her find a superpower she could talk about as she continues building her career.

Her pattern showed up fast: Relationship Amplifier.

She has a natural way of connecting with people and strengthening conversations. So she took that language with her to the next afterparty and used it to introduce herself.

That’s what I love about these events.

Not just the energy.
Not just the conversations.
But watching someone walk away with clearer language about the value they bring.

Sometimes you don’t need a stage or a slide deck.

You just need the right room — and the courage to claim your superpower.
