31 years old today.
And I just realized something wild:

I've lived more places than most people take vacations.

Austria, Poland, Korea, Argentina, Brazil...
(And about 6 more if we're counting Caribbean islands)

Not every move was planned.
Life just kept saying "PLOT TWIST!"

February 2020: Quit my job in Seoul to build my business in Asia.
Universe: "Funny. Here's a pandemic instead."

February 2024: Living my best life on a sailboat in the Caribbean.
Universe: "Cute boat. Here's a tidal wave."

But here's the thing about being forced to start over constantly:

You get REALLY good at it.

Like, scary good.

New country? Give me 2 months to feel at home.
New life? I've already made a few dozen friends.
New language? I'll learn it in 12 weeks.

And somewhere between Korean TV appearances and Argentine wine tastings, I discovered my superpower:

Les PDG français veulent tous perfectionner leur grammaire et leur vocabulaire.
Et je refuse.

La semaine dernière, un CEO m'appelle.
20 ans d'expérience.
Vocabulaire impressionnant.
Obsédé par les temps de verbes.

Mais quand il parle anglais ?

C'est épuisant à suivre. 
C'est quasiment drôle.

Gros contraste avec comment il parle en français.

Il voulait des cours de grammaire avancée,
Mais je lui ai dit la vérité :

"Ta grammaire est loin d'être la priorité.
On dirait que tu fais exprès de mal prononcer les mots."

Il a pas aimé entendre ça...

Mais je suis pas là pour te dire ce que tu veux entendre.
Je suis là pour te dire la vérité.

C'est comme porter un costume sur mesure à 12,000€,
Avec les manches trouées et les pantalons déchirés.

Peu importe la perfection de la coupe.
Peu importe la qualité du tissu.
Peu importe les heures chez le tailleur.

Les gens verront les gros trous en premier.

Et dans ton anglais ?

Le trous, c'est ta prononciation floue.
C'est l'effort qu'il faut pour te comprendre.
C'est quand tu dis "f*ck yous" au lieu de "focus"

C'est quand on a l'impression qu'il y a une distance entre vous,
Puisque tu passes ton temps à traduire dans ta tête.

L'école française t'a conditionné à avoir peur des fautes.
À chercher la perfection grammaticale.
À accumuler du vocabulaire.

Mais si personne ne comprend ton vocabulaire de Shakespeare...
À quoi ça sert ?

Tu peux connaître 10,000 mots.
Maîtriser toutes les règles.

Mais si discuter 2 minutes avec toi prend toute sa concentration ?
Ils trouveront quelqu'un de plus facile à écouter.

Le pire est que tant que tu ne répares pas ces gros "trous",
C'est tout ce qu'on entend.

Donc répare les problèmes flagrants d'abord.
Le reste suivra.

Et contrairement à des cours de grammaire et des heures d'étude interminable,
On voit des progrès dès la première heure.

Donc réserve un call sur mon profil.

Et ils verront enfin que finalement, tu parles très bien anglais.

Et rendu là, c'est facile de se sentir confiant quand on parle.

Une Japonaise de 1m50 a écrasé un Navy SEAL de 100kg.

David Goggins - 1m85, muscles partout, mental d'acier : 163 km
Sumie Inagaki - petite dame japonaise que personne ne connaît : 219 km

Elle l'a battu de 56 kilomètres.

Regarde la différence physique.
C'est absurde.

Pourtant elle a gagné.

Mais tu sais pourquoi cette histoire me fascine ?

Parce que nos bouches sont infiniment plus similaires que leurs corps.

Peu importe ton âge.
Ta taille.
Ton genre.
Ta couleur de peau.

Ta bouche peut faire TOUS les sons de TOUTES les langues.
C'est un processus physique.

Mais voici le paradoxe :

Des gens vivent 20 ans aux États-Unis en "immersion totale",
Mais ils sonnent encore comme des touristes.

D'autres n'ont jamais vécu hors de leur pays.
Et en 6 mois avec la bonne méthode,
Ils parlent sur scène avec un anglais fluide et naturel.

La différence ?

Pas le temps.
Pas l'immersion.
La méthode et le soutien.

Inagaki n'a pas couru plus fort que Goggins.
Elle a couru plus intelligemment.

Si tu es sérieux sur un objectif...
Si tu es prêt à vraiment t'engager...

Trouve la bonne méthode.
Trouve le bon coach.

Arrête de compter les années.
Commence à compter les progrès.

Si une petite Japonaise peut battre un géant américain.

Qu'est-ce qui t'empêche de battre tes propres limites ?

Imagine you spent your whole life working like crazy on yourself.

So you get on a plane to Texas to meet some potential clients.

The moment you arrive, it becomes obvious:

They are trying not to laugh when you talk.

"Is there something in my teeth? 
Something wrong with my hair?"

And for some reason, the only thing anyone wants to talk about is
"oh my god, you're french! I love Paris!" 
(even if you're from Montpellier)

In France, you're impactful, effective, and people listen to what you say.
You're the boss.

But here, they talk to you like you're a tourist. 
At best, a junior employee.

So frustrating...

In all your years in school and at Wall Street English,
Why didn't they tell you how important it is to 𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑 credible,
Not just have the right words and grammar?

Maybe it's because they don't know how fast you can improve it.
Maybe they just don't know how to teach it.
So they teach what they know...

Stop believing the people who tell you it's just the words that matter.
They do. 

But if you sound like a mix of François Hollande and Brice de Nice when you speak English, who cares if you're smart?

They'll just think you sound "cute", 
and they'll choose someone local they can trust.

Dis-les à voix haute. 
Voici comment ne plus jamais se tromper.

La clé, c'est la tonalité.

Quand tu entends les Ricains parler anglais avec plein d'émotion,
Est-ce que tu te dis qu'ils sont juste plus expressifs?

C'est pas tout à fait ça !

En anglais (même British!), la tonalité fait partie du mot en soit !

Oui, il y a un petit "t" à la fin du mot, 
Mais c'est pas ça qui va faire la vraie différence.

J'ai une cliente à Genève qui se trompait toujours.

Avant, elle disait "we grew by twenty PERson"
(et on pensait qu'elle avait engagé des employés)

Maintenant, c'est très clair qu'elle parle de "perCENT"
(20% growth)

Ça te paraît compliqué?

Il y a des MILLIERS d'exemples que tu peux apprendre par coeur.

Ou tu peux apprendre à maîtriser l'accent tonique de manière intuitive.

I don’t “study” languages.

I become a speaker from day one.

Two mindset shifts that changed everything:
1. Think like a native. Don't translate.

Or... you could keep doing the traditional approach, where you study like a maniac for hours and hours in boring classes, only to still feel stuck, sounding funny, and constantly needing to repeat yourself.

Yesterday, a Brazilian CEO told me something that hurt:

"My 4-year-old laughs at my English"

His own child.
Making fun of his pronunciation.

"How does he learn so fast? 
I have been learning English longer than he has been alive!"

He's been in Miami for 7 years.
Runs a small company with $6M ARR.
Speaks with American investors, clients and partners daily.

But at home?
His kindergartener thinks "daddy talks funny".

He's drowning in English every single day.
So it isn't about immersion.

He built an empire from nothing.
So it's not about intelligence.

It's about believing you're born speaking differently.
That your tongue is somehow different from mine.
That speaking is a talent, not a technique.

Here's what kills me:

His kid learned perfect American English in 6 months.
Using the exact same mouth muscles as his dad.

Just... differently.

But the embarrassment?
Knowing that a small child beat you EASILY,
And you're STILL stuck at the plateau after YEARS?

For a lot of us, that hurts enough to do something about it.

When "daddy talks funny" becomes the dinner table joke.
When they think it's embarrassing when you speak.

But hey,
At least kids are honest enough to say what nobody else will!

No French executive has ever asked me this question

But their American colleagues ask it constantly:

"How did you learn to speak so many languages?"

French executives ask me about grammar rules.
About vocabulary lists.
About certifications.

Never about the actual skill of learning.

My Korean friends asked me this within days of meeting.
My Brazilian clients are obsessed with my methodology.
Americans want to know my "secret sauce."

But in 5 years coaching French executives?

Silence.

They ask:
- "What's the difference between present perfect and past simple?"
- "Can you give me more business vocabulary?"

They never ask:
- "How do you make a language feel fluent?"
- "What's your brain doing differently?"
- "How can I learn like you learned?"

Yesterday, a French CEO told me:
"I just need to fix my pronunciation mistakes."

I said: "How do you know that's the problem?"

He looked at me like I proposed we finish the meeting underwater.

The real problem?

French executives treat English like a school subject.
Not like a skill.

You don't ask a chef for a grocery list.
You ask how they learned to cook.

After learning 6 languages in a few months each, I can tell you:
The "how" matters more than the "what."

But hey, if you want another vocabulary list...
There's an app for that.

If you want to actually transform how you communicate?

That's a different conversation.
A question that most people have never thought to ask.

Ton anglais ?

Tu peux avoir :
- 10 ans d'études
- Un vocabulaire riche
- Une grammaire solide

Mais si tu dis "I want to find a p*enis (happiness) in America" ?
C'est fini. 
Ils vont chercher les autres bêtises que tu diras sans le savoir.

La solution n'est pas plus de cours.
C'est de boucher les plus gros trous.

Évidemment, pas tout le monde a les mêmes défis dans le même ordre de priorité,
Mais j'ai identifié 5 habitudes qui sabotent 80% des français à l'oral.

Enregistre-toi.
Corrige juste ça.
Enregistre-toi encore.
Et écoute à quel point tu parles déjà beaucoup mieux.

Tu aimes mieux étudier comme un fou pour encore avoir l'air bête?
Ou tu préfères parler comme un pro d'ici quelques semaines?

Ce qu'ils ont entendu?
"Let's F*CK YOU on gross profit."

Silence de mort.

"Euuhh.. is my connection frozen?"

Le pire?

Il a un MBA.
Il a fait 15 ans d'anglais.
Son vocabulaire est impeccable.

Mais dès qu'il ouvre la bouche, ça vire mal.

C'est pas une question d'intelligence.
C'est juste que personne ne t'a jamais montré la différence.

Ce n'est pas du tout la même chose,
Mais ton prof de lycée était trop occupé avec le past perfect continuous.

Je dis pas que c'est pas important, tout ça, 
Mais parler correctement, c'est la grosse base.

Au moins mon client s'est rendu compte qu'il peut résoudre ce problème.

Il a bien fait de réserver un call avec moi avant que ça s'empire.

You know what the real problem is?

It's not that you CAN'T.
It's that you believe it's not possible for YOU,
And you don't know HOW.

You mispronounce "focus" as "f*ck us"
So people laugh and you have to repeat yourself.

If they correct, you : "That's what I said!"
Spoiler: It's not.

But nobody tells you WHY this happens!

It's not genetic, and it's not talent.

It's literally just your tongue lifted 2mm too high.

**2 millimeters!**
That's the difference between "sheet" and "sh*t."

Your mouth is an instrument you can control.
You just need to learn how to use it.
It's just physical technique.

And anyone can do it.
Even you.

If a beatboxer can imitate R2-D2 or a Maserati...
Of course you can learn to say "world" correctly!

It's physics, not magic or talent.

Cours particuliers : Innombrables.

Total : plus de 1000 heures.

Et qu'est-ce que ça donne ?

"Sorry, can you repeat that?"

Pendant qu'elle était assise dans ces salles de classe...
Ses concurrents prenaient sa place à la table.

Le pire ?

Wall Street English lui a appris à commander un café.
À réserver un hôtel.
À demander son chemin.

Bref, parler avec des gens qui sont payés pour être patient...

Mais quand c'était le moment de parler dans un cadre professionnel,
Elle disait des bêtises sans s'en rendre compte !

Oui, c'est important de savoir dire bonjour et se présenter,
Mais on s'en fout si tu connais 20 mille mots si on te comprend pas.

Si tu veux bien t'exprimer, essaie plutôt de :

1. Diagnostiquer les vrais blocages
- Est-ce que tu parles trop vite? Trop lent?
- Tu te trompes entre "sheet" et "sh*t"?

2. Prioriser par impact concret sur ta vie
- Tu donnes la même présentation chaque semaine? 
Start there.
- Tu vas rencontrer un client au Texas dans deux semaines?
Concentre-toi sur cet objectif spécifique.

3. T'entraîner dans TON contexte
- Si tu parles anglais souvent, les mots que tu utilises au quotidien devraient être ta priorité.
- Utilise ta vie de tous les jours pour développer des bonnes habitudes!

4. Mesurer les progrès
- Es-tu capable de reconnaître quand tu te trompes?
- Peux-tu t'auto-corriger?
- Est-ce que tu fais des fautes de moins-en-moins souvent?

Ma cliente a réglé son problème de "sheet" en une session.
UNE.
Parce qu'on savait exactement quel muscle bouger différemment.

C'est sûr que ça prend plus de temps avant que ça devienne automatique,

Mais voici la vérité :

Si tu veux continuer à apprendre comment commander un cappuccino...
Il y a des apps pour ça.
(Franchement, les Duolingo de ce monde sont très bons pour les premiers 100 mots)

Mais si tu veux que ton anglais soit à la hauteur de ton expertise ?
Tu veux t'exprimer clairement et avec impact ?

En français? Le CEO est magnétique.
En anglais? On dirait Shrek qui fait un AVC.

Des études récentes en neurosciences démontrent que comprendre un accent étranger demande au moins autant d'effort supplémentaire que comprendre avec beaucoup de bruit de fond.

Alors imagine-toi si tu parles avec un gros accent 
ET c'est un environnement bruyant.
ET ton accent est carrément comique.

Tu as beau avoir des idées qui valent un milliard, 
Mais en parlant mal anglais, tu te mets des bâtons dans les roues.

Donc son équipe a développé un système:

Ils ont engagé un américain pour faire le pitch à leur place.
Puis ils s'arrangent pour que le CEO réponde par mail...

Pas mal comme solution temporaire,
Mais personne n'ose lui dire la vérité.
Les habits neufs de l'empereur, version corporate.

Sauf qu'ici, c'est pas ses vêtements qui manquent.
C'est son chiffre d'affaires.

Les empereurs modernes ne se baladent plus à poil.
Ils brûlent leur cash en pensant bien parler anglais.

Tu ferais quoi à leur place dans cette situation ?

Le fondateur de Y Combinator, Paul Graham, a admis en 2013 ce que tous les VCs pensent mais n'osent pas dire.

"Après avoir rencontré des milliers d'entrepreneurs... empiriquement, les fondateurs qui réussissent le mieux en fundraising parlent un anglais idiomatique."

Puis il a lâché la bombe:

C'était il y a 10 ans.

Et selon une étude de Harvard en 2024, rien n'a changé.

Les dirigeants avec un accent étranger ont 24% moins de chances d'être promu, et leurs idées sont attribuées aux autres 31% plus souvent.

Et c'est pas n'importe qui qui dit ça.

Graham a financé Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe.
Quand il dit que l'accent compte, tous les autres investisseurs le pensent aussi.

Ils ne l'admettront juste jamais.

Dans un pitch de 3 minutes:
• Minute 1: Ils s'ajustent à ton accent
• Minute 2: Fatigue cognitive
• Minute 3: "Ouf, il faut encore qu'il réponde aux questions?!"

Tu t'imagines quelqu'un pitcher sur "Qui veut être mon associé?" avec un accent qu'on comprend à peine?
