Offers that attract premium clients, grow margins, and scale sales + delivery | B2B Consultancy & Agency Offers | The “Wedge Offer” guy

This week's unexpected lesson for me:

How to handle obnoxious a$$holes with grace.

A while back, a LinkedIn coach I trust recommended I engage with people who visit my profile and seem interesting - doing cool work, direct prospects, potential partners, etc.

I struggled with it at first.

Not only is it more time spent going through people's profiles, posts, links, etc to get a feel for them and their work, but it felt... creepy? at first.

Still, I trust my LinkedIn coach friend. So I've been doing it for months now.

Lo and behold, it's resulted in loads of genuine conversations - with some turning into new friends, and some new clients too.

And I'm always experimenting with the note I include with my connection request.

Most times it's a simple: "Hey [X]! Saw you checked out my profile. I’d love to connect."

Yesterday, I tried something more direct by adding 1 line to the note for 4 connection requests I sent: "Are you thinking about your offers?"

I've always avoided a direct question like this, for fear of sounding sales-y, but wanted to try it once.

Here's what happened:
• 2 connected and haven't yet replied
• 1 connected and replied: "Hey Jay, yes I am. My offer structure needs development." (pitch perfect lead)
• 1 guy sent me this gem of a reply...

"nope, I am not. If you took 17 seconds to actually read my profile other than just send automated message to everyone who visits your profile you'd know that"

Honestly, I get his sentiment.

And if that's all he wrote, I would have owned it.

Instead, over the next 5 paragraphs, he explained how a mutual connection had been to my masterclass and praised my work. She recommended that he follow me.

Except he felt I was just another "guru with some sh!t story about burning out."

He even warned her to beware of me. (she set him straight w/o me even knowing)

Keep in mind, I've never met this guy. We've never spoken.
He invented all of these ideas about me in his head.

I mean, damn... if that's how he thinks about and talks to others, can you imagine how ugly his own thoughts must be about himself?

I feel sorry for the guy.

And so I handled it the way any sane person would...

I drafted a reply with how I really felt 🖕
Deleted it. And then sent my actual reply 👇

What would you have done?

I spent 2025 helping consultants, coaches, and agencies sell more of their services by fixing one thing everyone overlooks.

Their offer.

I watched smart, capable operators struggle to sell work that was genuinely valuable.

They had the skill and experience, but consistently presented their prospective clients with complicated, vague, and hard-to-say-yes-to offers.

Most of them spiraled endlessly, trying to sell their services:
• Walking prospects through everything they could do
• Explaining their process in mind-numbing detail
• And customizing scope (aka reinventing their work from scratch)

The resulting friction they faced slowed sales to a halt. Every time.

And any time a question came up about pricing, timeline, or outcomes, the honest answer was almost always the same...

"It depends."

This is the stuff that erodes confidence on both sides of the table. Your buyer feels like they're stepping into uncertainty, and you feel you're constantly negotiating your best work.

I spent most of this year helping people these patterns and replace them with clear, specific offers that made buying feel obvious.

And I finally sat down to write out the 3 offer mistakes I saw most during 2025, along with what works better.

Anyone else have clients who love your work but new prospects don’t get it?

Whenever I launch a new offer, there's always one to-do I punt till later that surprises a lot of people.

Working on my website.

Don't get me wrong, a professionally designed website is a killer marketing tool to have. But your first order of business is sales.

And when you design your offer, you have everything you need to sell it:
• Core promise
• Name (less important IMO - clarity is what matters)
• Format
• Deliverables
• How you minimize time-to-value
• Bonuses & risk reversals (for fence sitters)
• Client investment (time, money)

In other words, you know:
1. What your offer is
2. Who it's (specifically) for
3. What problem it solves
4. What your client gets
5. How long it takes
6. What it costs (without, "it depends")

Turn that into some DMs and 3-sentence emails, and go sell it.

Deliver it 5 or 10 times.

Make it repeatedly better - the client experience, results, and your efficiency (and margins) to deliver it.

And along the way, increase your prices.

Then, once most of your early assumptions and gaps are closed, and major pivots are complete, invest in your website.
