Today marks the final day of my 30s, a moment that feels both surreal and deeply grounding.

This past decade has been one of the most challenging and rewarding seasons of my life. From the gift of fatherhood and watching my sons grow, to the heartbreak of losing my own dad, from incredible career milestones to moments of deep self-doubt; every experience has shaped me into who I am today.

My 30s were a journey of discovery: learning what it truly means to lead with heart, to embrace vulnerability, and to finally see myself not through the lens of perfection, but of purpose. I’ve learned that real strength often shows up in quiet moments  in forgiveness, in perseverance, in choosing love when it’s hard.

As I step into my 40s tomorrow, I do so with gratitude, peace, and excitement for what’s ahead. The next decade isn’t about proving anything, it’s about so much more. It’s truly about being present, being authentic, and being love in action.

Here’s to the next chapter, may it be filled with meaning, connection, and joy.

Some truths hit a little harder when you’ve lived them.

Far too many beautiful souls in our community are pushed out of their families simply for being who they are. I’ve walked that road myself, and I know the quiet ache it creates. It’s a wound that stays with you, even as you build a life rooted in authenticity, courage, and love.

What breaks my heart is how often people confuse a child’s identity with a parent’s “failure.” The real failure isn’t having an LGBTQ+ child. The real failure is choosing to turn away from them.

✅ We need more kindness in this world. 

✅ More families who choose love over fear. 

✅ More communities who choose belonging over judgment. 

✅ More humans willing to say, “You are safe with me.”

If you’re reading this today, I invite you to reflect on the way you show up for the people in your life, especially those who may be carrying silent battles. Ask yourself: Where can I offer more love? More acceptance? More presence?

Because none of us should ever be made to feel unworthy of family.

And if someone you care about is struggling to be seen or embraced, how might you be the person who reminds them they matter?

Stepping into this decade with clarity is a gift. It took honest reflection, some bruises, some letting go, and a whole lot of courage to get here. But today, I can look in the mirror and finally recognize the man I’ve been becoming all along.

This is the first birthday where I can say with conviction: I know who I am. 

Not the version shaped by expectations. Not the version edited for approval. The real me, still learning, still stretching, still growing, but finally rooted.

As I begin this next chapter, my commitment is simple: to love deeper, listen better, show up with purpose, and pour into the people around me with a fuller heart. If I can do that, I’ll be a better father, son, friend, colleague, and most importantly, a better human.

Some people enter our lives exactly when our hearts are ready for them. Bridgett is one of those people for me.

We first met in June 2024 at a workforce youth apprenticeship conference, a simple moment on the calendar that became a turning point in my life. What I didn’t know then was how deeply her presence, her wisdom, and her heart would shape the months that followed.

During one of the most profound transitions of my life, finally embracing the truth of who I am; she walked beside me with acceptance, courage, and love. She helped me see myself more clearly and reminded me that living authentically is not just possible, but necessary.

Bridgett is an extraordinary friend and a global thought leader in workforce development, but even more than that, she is someone who lifts others up simply by being herself.

The recent decision by the U.S. Department of Education to exclude nursing from its updated definition of “professional degree” programs isn’t just a policy mistake, it’s a misunderstanding of the very profession holding our healthcare system together.

Nursing is a professional discipline. It requires deep clinical judgment, advanced training, licensure, and a level of human-centered leadership that our nation depends on every single day.

To categorize nursing degrees as something less sends the wrong message at the wrong time. We are in the middle of a workforce crisis, and this choice adds barriers for those pursuing advanced nursing education. It also diminishes the impact nurses have on patient care, community health, and the future of the healthcare workforce.

This isn’t about titles, this is about respect for the people who show up in the hardest moments of our lives.

So here is my challenge to all of us:

Let’s not stay quiet. 

Let’s elevate the truth about nurses and the essential expertise they bring to healthcare. 

Let’s speak to the power of advanced nursing education in strengthening systems, improving outcomes, and expanding access.

A recent morning breakfast stopped me in my tracks. A simple omelet with the word love written across it, and it reminded me of something we don’t talk about nearly enough.

This Thanksgiving, I’m taking a moment to acknowledge the quiet truth that this past year was anything but easy. Some adventures remind you just how good it feels to fully live.

Riding ATVs through Honduras after Hurricane Melissa poured days of rain into the jungle was one of those moments for me. The mud was deep, the trails were wild, and every splash felt like an invitation to just let go and be present.

There’s something freeing about embracing the mess, leaning into the unknown, and trusting the ride. Out there covered head to toe in mud, I felt the kind of joy that comes from being fully grounded in the moment, fully human, and fully alive.

We all need spaces like that, places that remind us to play a little more, laugh a little louder, and not take ourselves too seriously.

Today I pulled a coconut straight from a tree in Thailand for the very first time. Such a simple act, yet it surprised me with how much joy it brought. The taste was unbelievably fresh, almost as if the earth itself was offering a small gift.

What struck me most was how much this moment mirrors life. Some of the sweetest experiences come when we reach a little higher, try something new, or step into a moment we’ve never lived before. Growth often hides in the places we haven’t touched yet.

It reminded me to keep saying yes; to adventure, to learning, to connection, to becoming more fully myself.
