Last Thursday night, I did something that pushed me way out of my comfort zone.
 
I drove to Blackpool to attend the Flamingo Business Awards hosted by Elizabeth McQuillan.
 
I didn’t know anyone there - not really.
 
There were two people I’d followed online for years, Gemma Went and Helen Tudor, but I’d never met them in person. 

And with neurospicy social anxiety, that kind of thing is a lot.
 
But I went. I showed up anyway.
 
I was in a category alongside 10 incredible entrepreneurs - people who are highly visible, wildly inspiring, and very deserving.
 
I never expected to win.
 
But...
 
OMFG!!!! I won AI Visionary of the Year!!!! 
 
Out of 1,000 entries.
 
Down to 10 finalists.
 
And somehow… me.
 
It’s taken me the whole weekend to process. 

I’ve been looking after my mum, spending time in bed, gently letting it land.
 
Now that I’m starting to come back online, there’s one thing I wanted to say:

One of the first things I ever did with ChatGPT?

I built a full Valentine’s cocktail campaign for a premium spiced rum brand… in an afternoon.

We uploaded the website copy.
Added a tiny love story.
And ChatGPT created:

✨ 10 original cocktail names
✨ a recipe
✨ ingredients
✨ a story
✨ menu descriptions
✨ bar partner copy
✨ social campaign posts
✨ email nurture follow-ups
✨ AND the photography

They used the whole thing.
It saved them thousands on creative + photography.

That’s when I realised:

Hospitality is sitting on a goldmine and doesn’t even know it yet.

The KPI Meetings That Broke My Brain (And How AI Would’ve Saved Me)

I used to dread my monthly one-to-ones.

Not because I wasn’t good.
But because I’m neuro-spicy… and back then, that meant:

– imposter syndrome
– fear I’d missed something
– hours building KPI reports
– overthinking every number
– masking through the whole meeting

Looking back, AI would’ve changed everything.

ChatGPT can now:
✔ build KPI summaries
✔ spot trends
✔ highlight wins
✔ prep talking points
✔ research partnerships
✔ clean up data

I would’ve walked into those meetings calmer, confident, and prepared.

Hospitality people aren’t “bad at data.”
They’re exhausted.

AI gives them a way to breathe again.

I wonder how many times people have to tell Chat GPT they aren’t Welsh? 🤷‍♀️

The Laptop Trap

A huge part of my hospitality career?
My head in a laptop.

Writing posts.
Researching companies.
Planning events.
Trying to think of new ideas.
Doing everything manually.

Meanwhile the magic of hospitality was happening outside:

✨ guests laughing
✨ clients arriving
✨ opportunities walking through the door

And I was stuck indoors creating content.

AI flips that.

It drafts the posts.
It finds the companies.
It brainstorms the ideas.
It builds the campaigns.

So hospitality people can get back to being visible, our and about and connecting with humans.

Hospitality isn’t built in a laptop.
It’s built in the room.

“I Wish I’d Had This When I Worked at Living Ventures”

When I worked for Living Ventures, we had the most beautiful manuals.

Stunning. Detailed.

Impossible to absorb on the fly.

Especially for a neuro-spicy brain like mine.
I skimmed everything.
Missed instructions.
Masked the confusion.

Now?

I can upload the entire manual into AI and turn it into:

✔ checklists
✔ quick guides
✔ quizzes
✔ simple training for new staff
✔ bionic reading versions - I can read! 🤩
✔ an interactive company GPT

Imagine staff who don’t drown in information.

Imagine onboarding that actually sticks.

Hospitality deserves accessible systems.

Not thick folders no one reads.

The 9pm Table That Taught Me About Emotional Labour.

Every hospitality professional knows that table.

Big party.
9pm arrival.
Complaints from before the first plate.
You just know where it’s going.

Back then, I’d spiral about what to say in the review reply.

Too soft?
They’d push further.
Too firm?
They’d explode online.
Too slow?
Reputation damage.

AI changes that.

I now build custom GPTs that write:
✨ calm replies
✨ professional tone
✨ de-escalation language
✨ consistent brand messaging

It protects the venue…
and it protects the team’s nervous systems.

Hospitality people carry SO much emotional weight.

AI can carry some of it with you.

Guess what… I’m rewriting my training manuals again.
ChatGPT 5.2 just dropped - and even though it's getting mixed reviews - honestly, I love it.

Not because it’s new.
Not because it’s flashy.
But because it finally makes AI easier to learn.

I’ve spent the last three years teaching AI to founders, teams, and complete beginners. 
Smart people. 
Capable people. 
Often very overwhelmed people.

And the biggest blocker has never been the technology.

It’s been the thinking load.

Trying to work out:
what to type
how specific to be
whether they’re “doing it wrong”
why the answer feels close but not quite right
GPT-5.2 changes that.

It’s noticeably better at understanding intent, not just instructions.

People don’t think in perfect prompts - they think in half-formed ideas, feelings, and “sort of this, but not that”.

This version follows the direction of thought more naturally.
That matters.

Because when learners get a useful response sooner:
confidence builds faster
frustration drops
and people actually keep using the tool after the session ends
From a trainer’s point of view, that’s gold.

It’s also better at the work people really care about:
structuring ideas
drafting everyday writing
planning content
turning messy notes into something usable
Not impressive demos.

Practical, Friday-afternoon tasks.

It's also far better at understanding charts, diagrams, and software.

So yes - the manuals are being updated (AGAIN).

Because when the tool shifts, the teaching should too... which is why i have never offered pre-recorded modules.

And this update makes AI feel more supportive, more human, and far less intimidating for the people who need it most.

Quiet upgrade.
