Luke Costley-White is right. GTM engineers are going to quietly disappear in 2026. And I know exactly who won't like hearing it.

Clay is a good tool. Let's be clear about that. But they're flying too close to the sun trying to force-create a new job role. 

And in doing so, they're not just confusing marketing... they're wrecking it.

The "GTM Engineer" assumes marketing's future is MORE complexity. 

That you'll need engineers to manage the chaos. That the answer to tool sprawl is... more technical roles to operate the tools.

It's the wrong bet.

What Clay is trying to do is blur the line between marketing and rev ops. You turn marketers into workflow administrators. You make the problem worse while selling it as the solution.

We believe the opposite.

AI should REMOVE complexity, not require engineers to manage it.

The future isn't hiring engineers to run your marketing systems. It's AI running the systems so your marketers can do what AI can't: think creatively, understand humans, build brands that matter.

Execution? Automated. Workflows? Automated. Data enrichment? Automated.

What's left is the only thing that's ever mattered: human ingenuity.
