David is Co-CEO of fassforward Consulting Group. He partners with clients to improve their leadership, culture, productivity, and life/work balance. He leads fassforward's Executive Coaching practice, oversees finance and is focused on developing FCG’s biggest asset, its people and culture.

Prior to joining the fassforward, David spent 20 years on Wall Street. He worked at Morgan Stanley for 9 years in Institutional Equity Derivatives where he managed Hedge Fund Sales Trading. David was also a leader in the firm’s recruiting program, taught in the training program, and was a significant contributor in the growth of the firm’s derivative platform for hedge fund clients. In 2008, David joined New Mountain Capital to launch a risk management strategy and start a trading desk for the firm’s hedge fund with assets of approximately $1 billion. In 2010, he was promoted to Portfolio Manager, co-managing the hedge fund, which had grown to over $2 billion in assets. 
Through his work at fassforward, his yoga studio and his charity, David has enjoyed being focused on "doing good things for good people". David received his A.B., magna cum laude from Princeton University.

Gavin McMahon has distilled nearly 25 years of teaching leaders how to be better storytellers into a book.

When I joined fassforward after 20 years on Wall St, I thought storytelling was what we did with our children at bedtime. I questioned why we were focused on it.

Gavin helped me realize that leadership and storytelling are 2 sides of the same coin, and that you cannot be a effective leader without effective storytelling.

Here are 3 of the many leadership lessons from "Story Business": 
 
1️⃣ Tell the Truth (Beautifully)

Leadership storytelling starts with “truthtelling, not fabletelling.”

People don’t need a fairy tale (as per my old misconception), they need clarity they can act on. A leader’s job is to frame reality in a way people can understand, believe, and rally behind. "Speak to their listening."

2️⃣  Question the Future

Leaders don’t predict, they provoke. A good question pulls your colleagues forward, makes them imagine what could be, and creates permission for change.

And when you question the future, you’re not forecasting, you’re widening the path ahead so people can see new possibilities and choose to step into them.

3️⃣ Connect People and Dots

Connecting people and dots is the quiet superpower of successful leaders.

Your team carries fragments of the story; you weave them into shared context. When people see where they fit, they move with purpose.

▪️ Provides daily support for a diverse section of 16 students consisting of senior foreign military/law enforcement officers, U.S. military senior officers, and senior interagency personnel. 
▪️ Collaborates with the Stakeholders and Service representatives across the Department of Defense (DOD) including the Joint Staff, Department of State, National Counter Terrorism Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Customs and Border Protection, and United States Aid and Development. 
▪️ Communicates with senior Army, DOD, and Congressional leadership on irregular warfare initiatives and required decisions to influence funding, directives, and strategic policy.

U.S. Department of State

Director of the Chief, Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq's initiative's group.  Responsible for preparation of the Chief, OSC-I for Key Leader Engagements with senior Iraqi government and military leadership.  Interacts daily with senior Department of State personnel up to the Ambassador to ensure the Office of Security Cooperation is synchronized with the United States Mission-Iraq.

▪️ Communicated daily with German local, state, and federal officials to ensure the force protection of the base, sharing of intelligence, and the strategic partnership between the garrison and the host nation.
▪️ Managed diverse (international) U.S. base to include force protection, public works, logistical operations, recreation, and welfare with over 100 U.S. civilians and 400 German nationals in the workforce.

▪️ Served as the senior advisor to the Commanding General (2-star) of a 24,000 Infantry Division, administrator of all planning of training, deployments, and combat operations. 
▪️ Provided representation for the Commanding General during planning events with the Garrison, local governments, headquarters, and congressional representatives from both the U.S. House and Senate.

▪️ Oversight of all operations, collaborating with the Iraqi military (six Iraqi generals, four Iraqi Army divisions), and federal/local police (two divisions).
▪️ Directed all intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations in Baghdad and Baghdad Province.
▪️ Led the analysis, planning, and resource attainment measures essential to Squadron-level operations, training, and integrated campaign across territories with over 2.5M Iraqi citizens.
▪️ Aligned with joint and interagency partners to advise and execute combat operations, counter-insurgency operations, and Security Force Assistance operations.

A 28 year U.S. Army Veteran, Dr. Michael Sullivan leverages subject matter expertise acquired in progressive roles as an operations management advisor across diverse sectors including Military, Government, Advanced Education, Strategic Security, and Space Operations. He brings proficiency in security cooperation, strategic planning, guiding cross-functional teams, evaluating, and improving processes, conducting project essential research, ensuring effective contract negotiations, and executing leadership initiatives. In his current role as Policy and Strategy Analyst with the NRO, Dr. Sullivan assists in conducting detailed analysis of Space Policy and Strategy.  He works with multiple government, private, and non-government agencies to further the development of U.S. space policy interests.   He also serves as an adjunct instructor at both Georgetown's School of Foreign Service, McCourt School of Public Policy and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
