AI will make you (or your team) wildly more productive.

**BUT**

You must have the requisite skills to make the most of AI.

**AND**

If these skills are lacking, you will not be able to recognize (and correct) the AI when it makes mistakes.

BTW - AI makes mistakes all the time.

Take Microsoft's Copilot in Excel AI as an example.

The "magical" scenarios where Copilot analyzes data using a few clicks and a couple of short prompts rely heavily on two things:

I've tested Copilot in Excel, which rarely generates the correct Python/machine learning code.

I help professionals and teams build better forecasts using machine learning with Python and Python in Excel.

Interesting behavior from Copilot in Excel. Just another example of how Python in Excel skills are part of Excel's AI-powered future.

I was working on the next issue of my LinkedIn newsletter, which will cover using AI to build better forecasts in Microsoft Excel, and asked Copilot to create a forecast for me.

I was surprised to see that Copilot didn't use Excel's FORECAST.ETS() function because that's the best way to build data-driven forecasts using native Excel features.

Instead, Copilot in Excel generated Python code in the background to build an ETS model similar to what would be produced from FORECAST.ETS() using Python's mighty statsmodels library.

BTW - I covered statsmodels in my last two LinkedIn newsletter articles.

I'm betting that the new Copilot in Excel Agent Mode will be able to manipulate worksheets (e.g., generating formulas) directly and will be able to generate forecasts using FORECAST.ETS().

However, I'm also betting the Agent Mode will eventually be smart enough to recognize when a better forecasting technique is available from Python and use that instead.

Which means that the AI-powered future of Microsoft Excel will belong to those professionals who develop Python skills.

The Data School New York

I received 4 months of highly involved training to become professionally adept at using Tableau and Alteryx to generate business value for stakeholders.

As part of this training, I participated in 8 client projects from a mix of companies such as Delta Airlines, Johnson & Johnson and Nike. I also acted as project manager for one of these client projects supporting American Family Insurance.

After my four months of training, I will work with several large, established companies as a consultant over the course of 24 months. This work will involve training, business requirement gathering, data cleaning, data visualizing, presenting and trouble-shooting.

I updated a dashboard and created extensive documentation for how to maintain and update said dashboard in the future. This work was done to support the not-profit-organization MEDA, which provides socioeconomic support and services for families living in the Mission District, San Francisco, California. This dashboard is used to secure grant money for the organization.

Tableau/Alteryx Consultant 

Airbnb

I have built several workbooks and other supplemental documentation for various Airbnb data consumers at various levels of Tableau proficiency. 

I also created some documentation that supports tracking the utilization of training support (Tableau support office hours).

Each workbook covers features such as creating and formatting charts and dashboards and enriching data sources using calculation fields (basic calculations, Table Calculations, etc.).

All in all, this content will go on to support up to 1,000 data consumers at Airbnb.

This work is important for Airbnb as part of its wider Self Service Analytics initiative to streamline how tools like Tableau, Superset and MinervaLens are used. This initiative is meant to improve the production and consumption of BI reporting.

Tableau & SSA Education Consultant

As part of my first client placement through TIL: 

I will leverage Tableau, SQL and Alteryx to meet client's data-related needs.

I will work alongside 10 other team members from the BI team of JLL's Work Dynamics department on various accounts such as Royal Bank of Canada and Lenovo.

I will support in the design, creation and maintenance of client-directed dashboards, especially in terms of replacing data sources and ensuring that dashboards are correctly populated with data.

I enhanced existing Alteryx workflows, that is used by 14 team members, that are responsible for establishing congruity of role names between two JLL systems (Corrigo and TAT). These workflows ensure that JLL's account teams have appropriate access to Corrigo.
