BTW - AI makes mistakes all the time.

The "magical" scenarios where Copilot analyzes data using a few clicks and a couple of short prompts rely heavily on two things:

I help professionals and teams build better forecasts using machine learning with Python and Python in Excel.

Interesting behavior from Copilot in Excel. Just another example of how Python in Excel skills are part of Excel's AI-powered future.

I was working on the next issue of my LinkedIn newsletter, which will cover using AI to build better forecasts in Microsoft Excel, and asked Copilot to create a forecast for me.

I was surprised to see that Copilot didn't use Excel's FORECAST.ETS() function because that's the best way to build data-driven forecasts using native Excel features.

Instead, Copilot in Excel generated Python code in the background to build an ETS model similar to what would be produced from FORECAST.ETS() using Python's mighty statsmodels library.

BTW - I covered statsmodels in my last two LinkedIn newsletter articles.

I'm betting that the new Copilot in Excel Agent Mode will be able to manipulate worksheets (e.g., generating formulas) directly and will be able to generate forecasts using FORECAST.ETS().

However, I'm also betting the Agent Mode will eventually be smart enough to recognize when a better forecasting technique is available from Python and use that instead.

Which means that the AI-powered future of Microsoft Excel will belong to those professionals who develop Python skills.

Create, compile and analyze daily, weekly, monthly and yearly business objects reports. Manage incoming orders, tracking and inventory requirements for accounts. Proactively assist Sales Representatives in reaching target sales goals.

Create monthly retail trade catalogues using Catalist. This is in support of the mandate from Indigo Canada that all titles are to be presented to buyers using this web based program.

Track, book, organize Trade and Career College conferences. This includes research for any potential new opportunities for the division. I actively attend two a year. Proudly grown FITC and Web Unleashed sales to allow for our continuing participation in a large growth market conferences. We use a point of sale system for selling at booths.

I assisted with the successful Eminata eBook project launch, the first of its kind in Canada. Ongoing duties include manually billing each month based on individual student enrollments, new title edition research and assist with any day to day issues.

I help our career college team with proposals for adoption of full school conversions of traditional curriculum to digital. This includes researching appropriate titles based on current curriculum needs per course subjects. I also help create documents and presentation kits needed for the proposals.

Actively working on several special projects to assist with the continuing growth of the Higher Education division. I am working with senior level management, marketing managers and system support teams to successfully launch books from Taylor & Francis and Bloomsbury Publishing.

Book the library for regular meetings and the necessary spaces for planned workshops
Approve club members when they request access to Meetup
Post the planned regular meetings, speakers, workshops and outings on Meetup
Monitor for any changes to upcoming workshops and outings and make adjustments on Meetup
Alert members to upcoming workshop and outings. This will include any changes, special instructions and reminders.
Answer club member’s questions about using Meetup and all its features
Coordinate with the leaders on the details for their upcoming scheduled workshops and outings
Encourage members to provide feedback on workshops and outings and post images to MeetUp
Answer any requests from non members who are request access, to check out the website, and email the club if they are interested in joining.

Meetup, Lead Organizer

Responsibilities include:

Chair all Club meetings. This includes the biweekly announcement email and creating the powerpoint slides for the regular meeting announcements.
Chair all Leadership Team Meetings.
Ensure the integration and fulfillment of all Club programs and activities, including the booking of the Club’s regular meeting venue(s) and the proper management of the Web domain.
Foster the continued well-being of the Club.
Act as the Club’s spokesperson.
Manage special events, including the Club's Opening Night, the AGM and The Annual Awards Night.
Execute official documents on behalf of the DMCC.
Oversee the duties of the VP of Programs, VP of Competitions, External Liaison, Newsletter Editor, Webmaster, Membership Chair and Educational Coordinator.

Currently the club has 112 members with a waiting list.

I organized the season calendar including booking speakers and recruiting leaders for outings & workshops. As part of my tenure as VP of programs I added a summer program.

I also lead workshops specializing in software training for Lightroom and Photoshop. Recently put in place an educational strategy that will allow members to submit questions plus tips & tricks through a simple survey on Survey Monkey. Goal is to increase club knowledge, interaction and learning. 

Helped organize the Bronze Box a friendly competition with a camera club in Hamilton. We hosted the pot luck every other year with an attendance of 60 people.

With the help of a team organized the annual awards night. This includes researching & booking a caterer, locating companies for donations for the fundraiser and organizing the bar. Bar duties including obtaining the license, purchasing the alcohol and attending bar.

With excellent team work and hard work of the executive we have grown the club from 60 members to 109 members in three years. We also have a waiting list.
