I work with leaders to intentionally design remote organisations & ways of working, laying the foundations for rapid scaling, long-term organisational health, and a globally distributed workforce.

I spent 2021 at Oyster, scaling their fully-remote (globally distributed) company from 14 to 500 people (and a $1bn valuation). Which was absolutely wild.

I work mostly at the intersection of system design, human behaviour, remote work & operations. I'm convinced that knowledge work has no borders and the "remote work revolution" has the power to make the world a fairer and more equal place for everyone. Globally distributed companies are the future.  And the remote workplace should be diverse, safe & supportive for all.

I talk about "Organisational Health" a lot because healthy orgs feel calm when ploughing through unknown waters at 1000mph and can operate on the edge of chaos without being chaotic: much better for our people, and our business. Since systemic health problems have a disproportionately large effect on distributed remote teams (and quickly compound with scale), I'm on a mission to help folks be more intentional about how they design & transform remote-first orgs.

I took a break over the summer to go travelling. In Thailand, I helped build an orphanage and did a tour of various parts of the country. I also worked on an Elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka, working with and caring for the Elephants. My travels took me to Australia at the end of the trip, before I returned back to the UK.

I worked at Enterprise as part of the Electric contract, Alliance with Central Networks, during the summer break. After 4 weeks I was promoted to Team Leader.

I worked within the Streetworks Reinstatement team. I was responsible for organising and managing various teams to ensure jobs were completed in relation to the deadlines set by the local council. Due to the redevelopment of the team during my time there, I was also responsible for the training and restructuring of the team. This involved training the team and implementing processes to improve efficiency and accuracy, whilst ensuring all health and safety regulations were adhered to at all times. 

Other Key responsibilities:

•Taking calls from contractors and liaising between departments to ensure repairs were met to avoid costly fines. 
•Training new employees, using materials I had created (now rolled out across all delivery centres in the Midlands and put forward for an enterprise award via incentive scheme) 
•Dealing with customer calls and complaints.
•Initiating cost saving ideas to help effectiveness and efficiency.   
•Supervising the team to ensure work load efficiency, fairness and completion.
•Dealing with any interdepartmental communication issues.

I worked part time during my studies. My key responsibilities included; meeting sales targets, maintaining a good knowledge of product range, using in house training techniques to provide excellent sales and customer service. resolve customer queries and complaints. I also was entrusted with: cash management, banking, returns, repairs and replacements procedures. 

During my time at Currys I achieved the first 100% on the mystery shopper assessment of my sales techniques and helpfulness (following completion of Currys in-house customer service training)
