It’s September of 2012. I’m studying for a chemistry test when I get a phone call. 

Out of no where I learn a massive heart attack took my father’s life.

Immediately at age 20, I had to:

-become the man of the house
-create an exit strategy for college
-focus on making at least double my dads income

This pressure led me to finding the world of tech sales.

Starting as an intern at Gartner. I worked my way to AE, then sales trainer.

Then jumped into the world of software sales at New Relic.

Now for the last 3.5 years I’ve been working at Databricks, one of the greatest tech companies in the world.

My biggest goal is to comfortably retire my mom by selling 6 & 7 figure deals in SaaS.

I am the product of farmers and immigrants from the Balkans.

I get things done because I had great parents who raised me with an expectation of excellence.

I don’t talk, walk, act or dress like regular sales people.

I don’t like best practices. Instead I try to do the opposite of others because you can’t create extraordinary results by doing the same thing as everyone else.

I cannot deny that sales have changed over the last 18 years, but there are some principles that are still the same. Being myself in a role as account manager, SDR, Account Executive, Sales Manager, Head of Sales and Chief Commercial Officer I have seen sales being personal, but with the introduction of technology it became more “spray and pray”. However nowadays it is back to a more personal approach, with supporting technology like video, social media channels. The question is how can you combine the best practices over the years in a modern suitable approach. 

I believe that the “go-getter”, “can-do” and “being yourself” mentality, combined with the technology available is part of the success. The other part can be trained, but differs per individual. With that said I believe that sales reps need professional support to succeed in the role. 

Sales reps that succeed in combination with proper reporting tools will set your organisation up for success. 

My experience in working in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland and the Middle East allows me to help organisations liaising with different cultures and buying processes. 

Oh and a bit of myself: living close to Amsterdam together with my wife and 3 year old daughter. Being in the countryside allows me to do outdoor activities and pick up my hobby gardening.
