My Story

Three years ago, I moved from Holland to the Portuguese mountains to escape burnout.

It didn't work.

Working 8am-10pm. Phone at dinner. Snapping at my kids - I remained stuck in survival mode.

My chest was tight. Mind racing. I'd lost the ability to feel what my body was saying.

That wake-up call changed everything.

I stopped trying to push through my dysregulation and instead started treating through somatic work and regulation.

Now I help other sensitive and neurodiverse founders do the same.

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

Most people notice the sacrifices.
They rarely see what it builds internally.

Season of life. 

𝗜 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲.

It’s not.

For me, it came down to how I was setting things up.

Every time I fell off, it was because my plan only worked on calm days 
when I had time, energy, and motivation.

Real life doesn’t work like that right...

So instead of trying harder,
I changed the rules.

Here’s what actually changed everything for me:

1️⃣ 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 10 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀
If I showed up for the first 10 minutes, the workout usually took care of itself.
Starting is the real battle.

2️⃣ 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 (𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 + 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻)
“No time” is usually just “no plan.”
I decide what I’ll do and when before the day gets chaotic.

3️⃣ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆
Consistency loves predictability.
Same slot, same trigger and fewer decisions.

4️⃣ 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻
If you can stay consistent when life is messy, you’ll be unstoppable when things calm down.

5️⃣ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀
I stopped obsessing over results.
I tracked reps, sessions, and checkmarks instead.

6️⃣ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰
Accountability changes behavior fast.
When people know, you show up differently.

7️⃣ 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲: 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲
Miss once? Fine, fife happens.
Miss twice? That’s how habits die.

This isn’t about discipline.
It’s about designing consistency so it’s hard to fail.

Waiting for confidence is what keeps you stuck.

Progress doesn’t start with feeling ready.

They didn’t begin confident.
They began inconsistent, uncertain, and uncomfortable.

What changed wasn’t belief.

It was structure.

Simple rules.
Clear defaults.
Systems that worked on ordinary days.

Days with low energy.
Days with doubt.

That’s how physical strength is built.
And mental strength follows the same way.

Not by waiting for confidence.

For a long time, I ignored the signals.

The tight chest.
The constant fatigue.
The Sunday dread that never really left.

I told myself it was just a busy season.
Then just part of being ambitious.
Then this is normal.

It wasn’t.

My boss still wanted results.
Deadlines still existed.
Meetings still filled my calendar.

But my body started pushing back.

So I made a few uncomfortable changes:

• I stopped glorifying exhaustion
• I set boundaries that felt scary at first
• I prioritized sleep over late-night “one more task” sessions
• I learned how to train, eat properly, and manage my stress
• I chose sustainable progress over performative hustle

Nothing collapsed.

The work still got done.
My career didn’t stall.
But my energy came back.

Here’s the hard truth I had to accept:

No job is worth long-term burnout.
No title is worth your health.

And while no one else can make this choice for you,
it’s one worth making.

Remember: you always have a choice.

From the outside, things looked fine.
I wasn’t overweight.
I was still training.
I was “doing the right things.”

But inside, I felt flat.

Low energy.
Always tired.
Short temper.
Going through the days on autopilot.

I was sleeping enough.
Eating what I thought was healthy.
Training whenever I could squeeze it in.

And still…

I woke up tired.
Dragged myself through work.
Felt disconnected from things that used to matter.

My first instinct was to push harder.
Train more.
Do more.
Be more disciplined.

That only made it worse.

Since then, working with men who are busy, driven, and trying to do their best, I’ve seen the same pattern again and again.

It’s almost never laziness.

It’s usually this:

→ Training hard but not recovering
→ Eating for convenience, not energy
→ Living in constant stress mode
→ Going to bed tired but not relaxed
→ Sitting all day while the body slowly shuts down

None of these break you overnight.
They just add up.

Until one day you’re in your 30s, 40s, 50s feeling way older than you should…

And you tell yourself, “I guess this is just how it is now.”

It’s not.

You’re not broken.
You’re just using a system that no longer fits your life.

What actually changed things for me wasn’t more motivation or discipline.

It was fixing the order of priorities.

Training became simpler, not harder.
Food became real, not perfect.
Stress didn’t disappear, but I learned how to manage it.

And slowly, energy came back.
Clarity came back.
I felt like myself again.

I was finally doing the right things consistently without burning out.

This is for you.

There’s something most people don’t talk about: you can be doing “fine” in life and still not feel good in your body anymore.

Not burned out, not sick, just… off. You wake up already a bit tired, your body feels heavier than it used to, and your head isn’t as clear as it once was. You still get through the day, still show up, still handle what needs handling but the ease you used to have isn’t really there.

For a lot of people, that shift doesn’t come from one bad moment. It happens slowly. Life gets full, work gets more important and family needs your best. So you take responsibility seriously and keep things moving forward. And somewhere in all of that, your own health stops being something you actively think about and starts being something you just hope doesn’t get worse.

Again, nothing breaks, nothing crashes. You just drift a little further away from feeling like yourself.

It’s a signal, an invitation to come back to yourself and start showing up for your health again in a way that fits your real life, not some extreme reset.

You don’t need to start over. You don’t need drastic changes. You just need to stop putting yourself last.

And when you do, it’s surprising how much lighter everything else starts to feel too.

𝗜 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼.

If you know me, you know I’m big on journaling. I do it every day.

And this time, it helped pull me out of a rut.

A while back, I was on the couch late at night, scrolling instead of sleeping.
I’d trained that morning.
I’d eaten okay.
I’d been “productive”

But something felt off somehow. 

I wasn’t tired.
I wasn’t upset.
I just felt empty.

Busy… but not moving forward.

So I opened my notes and wrote one question:

“𝗗𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁?”

The answer wasn’t comfortable.

• I was reacting all day instead of choosing.
• Letting work take over most of my time.
• Barely took time to reflect and step back. 
• Half-present with my partner.
• Training without real focus.
• Telling myself it was just a busy phase.
That’s how it starts.

We justify things.
We slowly lower the standard.
And one day we look up and wonder how we got here.

That’s why these 7 questions matter.

Not to make you feel bad.
But to wake you up.

Realising you’re off track is hard.
But pretending you’re not is worse.

This isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about taking responsibility.

Checking in before your habits decide your future for you.

They keep me honest.
They help me reset.
They remind me that showing up takes effort.
