my comfort zone is literal chaos 🤡

so this year I'm not optimising for growth, I'm optimising for more peace

and let me tell you - sitting in this chill period is UNCOMFORTABLE

it's only been 2 weeks and I'm already battling myself daily

my brain keeps whispering 'you're falling behind' 'you're failing' 'be better'

bc that's my comfort zone

here's what 'unremarkable' looks like for me:

I drive a 2013 beat-up Corsa
but I've paid my entire Bali lease upfront for the foreseeable future

I don't buy designer clothes (Vinted girlie thru and thru 💅)
but I'm on track for early retirement

99% of people here are in hustle mode

grinding, scaling, optimising for MORE

(+ that's fine if that's what YOU want)

but what if slowing down is YOUR version of getting out of your comfort zone?

and I think that's the thing no one talks about

idk why it's still the goal for so many business owners tbh 😭

play it out in your head:

they didn't get there by playing small

I've been a creator for 5 years, and I actually started my career at an influencer marketing agency.

so when I was dreaming up 2026, I wanted it to be the year we did something new - not just for Pretty Little Marketer, but for the industry we're in.

why is it always up to big brands to run influencer campaigns? and why is it always up to influencers to sell?

this week, we ran our first ever community campaign - paying 5 of our wonderful Insiders Club members to share their real experience of being in the club.

because who better to tell you about the membership than the people who are already in it?

CC Phoebe, Nefise, Georgia, Lauren and Rhianne for being absolute *diamonds* 

and our wonderful Ops Manager Louisa for bringing the fun to life !! 

it surpassed all of my expectations, I cried at least 10 times and my gratitude for this community is just overflowing - this truly is the best community in the world.

but to keep it practical, here's what I learned running it:

→ physical props change everything: we printed custom signs with their hot takes and shipped them out - it gave creators something to hold, made the content instantly recognisable as part of a series, and turned the campaign into a keepsake 

→ themed briefs > open briefs: "share your experience" is too vague. "what do marketers need to do differently in 2026, and how does community fit in?" gave them a clear angle while leaving room for their voice

→ choose creators who are already talking about you: we didn't pick members with the biggest followings. we picked the ones who were already showing up, engaging, sharing wins. the campaign just amplified what was organic

you don't need a massive budget or a big brand name to run an influencer campaign. 

you just need people who genuinely believe in what you've built.

and I'm so proud to work with people who do.

5 years into being a creator, here’s what i’m doing differently in 2026 👋

→ treating content like a business asset, not just posts. 

everything i create now gets asked: does this build equity or just get engagement? does it compound or does it expire? *mic drop* 

if it’s not helping me own my audience, build my authority, or create something i can point back to in 6 months - i’m questioning why i’m making it.

→ asking “is this only mine to say?”

if another creator could post the same thing with a find-and-replace on the name, i’m simply not posting it.

the content that matters isn’t broadly applicable advice - it’s the insights that only makes sense coming from my specific experience, my frameworks, and my perspective.

→ choosing depth over frequency. 

the version of me that thought i had to post every single day to stay relevant is *exhausted* even thinking about it.

now i ask: does this move something forward? does it build on what i’ve already said?

relevance doesn’t come from showing up constantly. it comes from saying things people remember.

the best "content hack" I can give you for 2026: just be consistently good 👀

that's it - set a bar for yourself and always meet it. 

I know it's not the sexy answer and there's no template nor algorithm trick I can lend you for quick and magic results (sorry).

but here's what consistency gets you: when I announced a Pretty Little Marketer Substack was coming in a really vague post, we hit 100 subscribers in an hour. 

not because of a clever launch strategy (there literally wasn't one), but because you already knew it would be worth your time.

I'd earned your interest, your trust, your attention.

a history of delivering makes future promises believable *mic drop*

so if you want a real content strategy for this year:

→ have a unique POV: Mia McGrath isn't just another influencer, she's a lifestyle creator teaching you to be "Frugal Chic" - what's your thing and what do people come to you for that they can't get elsewhere?

→ do better than the rest: what is everyone else in your niche doing and how can you do it better - if they're sharing platform updates you're the one actually explaining what they mean, if they're telling you to "post consistently" you're the one breaking down what a realistic weekly content schedule actually looks like.

→ give something god damn it: every single post should have a takeaway, a practical application, something they can actually use instead of posting for the sake of posting. this is how you become a voice people want *more* from.

→ be selective: be intentional about where you show up, what you comment on and how you comment because your name attached to low-effort "love this!" replies isn't building your reputation.

the creators who win long-term aren't the ones who went viral once - they're the ones you'd recommend without hesitation because you know they'll deliver.

be that person.

even if it means posting less, shifting your schedule, taking longer inbetween content drops. it takes time, but the hard work compounds - I promise!

everyone sees the 700,000 followers and thinks engagement just happens, but here's what actually goes into building one of the world's largest online communities for marketers 👀

 and one whose engagement continues to grow as our audience does (the opposite of the norm).

most people think engagement works like a light switch: post something, people engage - but that's not how human connection works.

engagement is more like... adopting a rescue dog (cute)

you don't expect them to immediately trust you and want belly rubs on day one - they need time to warm up, multiple positive interactions, and proof that you're safe.

your audience is exactly the same.

real engagement is a process with multiple touch points:
→ someone sees your post: watching, but not ready to interact yet 
→ they check your stories: getting a feel for your vibe
→ they respond to a poll: low commitment, easy interaction 
→ they finally comment: they've built enough trust to put themselves out there

I like to jumpstart this process with what I call thin content, content that doesn't sell or educate, but gives people something easy to engage with first:
→ meme a pain point they relate to, creating "i feel seen" moments 
→ share education that makes them think "can she see inside my brain?" and reflect their exact struggle back to them 
→ tap into what's trending in your shared world to show you live in their reality 
→ ask for something everyone has an opinion on
→ create simple calls to action: "drop a 👋 if you've been there"

the goal isn't deep engagement immediately, it's building the habit of interaction.
