Job Description: Client Services Associate

Brent currently serves as the Executive Director of the Next Education Workforce at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. Brent leads a team that is collaborating with P-12 practitioners and higher-ed faculty to help design the roles of current educators, expand who enters the education workforce, and rethink how we develop and credential these educators. 

Prior to coming to ASU, Brent was a co-founder and Provost at the Relay Graduate School of Education where he set the curricular vision for the institution and managed teams focused on curriculum design, institutional research, and programmatic innovation. While at Relay, Brent also founded TeacherSquared—a national center dedicated to increasing collaboration among teacher preparation institutions. 

Prior to helping launch TeacherSquared and Relay, Brent attended the Harvard Graduate School of Education starting in 2005 where he worked extensively with the Teacher Education Program. He earned his doctorate in Education Policy, Leadership, and Instructional Practice and wrote his dissertation on student attrition from charter schools. From 2003-2005 Brent served as a founding teacher at IDEA College Prep—a public charter high school dedicated to getting students from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas into, and through, top colleges. Brent moved to Texas from Louisiana where, as a 1999 Teach For America Corps Member, he taught high school science for four years. 

Brent has trained new teachers at TFA Summer Institutes, TNTP content seminars, and regional science learning teams. He also co-wrote a national chemistry curriculum for TNTP. In 2002 Brent received his National Board Certification. Brent holds a BS in Biology from Arizona State University where he was also awarded a Circumnavigator’s Fellowship—a grant that funded a six-continent investigation of forest fires.
