Ten years ago, pretty much to the day, I made one of the boldest decisions of my life. 🎒

I was one of the first employees at a startup, within a scale-up, that had recently exited to private equity. I had a small shareholding, a clear career trajectory and every reason to stay (plenty of my friends and colleagues did). But something inside me knew I needed to step away.

So I did. Six months. Fifteen plus countries. One rucksack (the same rucksack I have today).

That sabbatical gave me something no boardroom ever could: perspective. Not just on the world, but on what I wanted to build with my life. The space to think clearly. The freedom to imagine a different path and ultimately, the conviction to pursue it.

It's what led to Love Ventures.

We have four core values at Love Ventures - Longevity, Obsession, Vocal and Expertise. My story brings me to our second company value: Obsession. 

Taking that sabbatical wasn't necessarily about escaping work, it was about getting obsessed with the right thing. Not someone else's vision, but my own. Not climbing a ladder I didn't choose, but building something I deeply believed in.

Today is Monday. A lot of people are heading back to work, weighing up their options, wondering "what if?"

Here's what I learned: if you have an idea and want to become an entrepreneur, just go for it.

Not recklessly and not without thought, but with commitment. The biggest risk isn't failure - it's spending years building someone else's dream while yours sits untouched.

You don't need the perfect plan. You don't need all the answers. You need obsession, that relentless drive to make something happen, even when (especially when) it's hard.

Ten years on, I get to work with the most incredible founders every single day who took that same leap and I couldn't be more grateful I took mine.
