I honestly can’t remember what we talked about next. I never found out who was calling or what it was about. 

What stuck was the feeling. Being taken seriously. Being worth his attention.

I know this sounds crazy.

But think about it:

A hiring manager has 500 applications on their desk. They're going to spend 6 seconds on your resume. Do you really think they're reading your cover letter too?

Never negotiate with just one offer on the table. One offer means you're asking for a favor. Multiple offers means you're choosing.


Step 2: Apply faster than everyone else.

500+ people apply to every job posting. The first 10-20 applicants get 80% of the interview spots. Speed beats perfection.


Step 3: Stop tailoring your resume for every role.

Craft ONE strong resume that positions you for the role you actually want. Then apply to 20+ relevant roles in a week. Volume with quality beats perfection with delays.


Step 4: Never discuss salary until you have a written offer.

Every salary conversation before the offer only eliminates you early. Would you play poker showing your cards?


Step 5: Interview like you have options (because you do).

Confidence comes from having alternatives. When you have 3 offers, you're not nervous. You're choosing.


Step 6: Switch every 2-3 years.

Those annual 2-3% raises will never match the 30%+ increases that come from strategic switching.


The math:

Stay loyal: $150,000 becomes $165,000 in 3 years.

Switch strategically: $150,000 becomes $225,000 in 3 years.
